Praise for Belichick from Baltimore?!

True, Harbaugh is really good in his own right tho. Certainly not BB lvl but a really good coach.

Maybe, he's better then most coaches but that is almost damning with faint praise. He may have cost his team 2 playoff games with his inability to call a timeout and then his whining gives his teams excuses to explain away those defeats.

BTW to expand on Brady's ability to process information.

There is the pre snap read, which he does well, But so do other elite QB's like Manning and Rogers.

However post snap the Pats O is unique. The reason many WR who have been productive elsewhere fail here, is the post snap reads, the receivers can run up to 6 different routes depending on the coverage and how the d is shading the receiver. The receiver has to master the play books and run the correct route. Very challenging, high Football IQ players like Moss, Gronk, T Brown, Edleman excel.

Consider that Brady processes the information of the coverage and correct routes for all 5 targets in that first second after the snap. This is what differentiates Brady from every other QB that has ever played the game. His win loss record reg season and playoffs tells the tale.

nobody in the league comes close to bill.
he's thousands of miles better then the 2nd best coach..

A few were in service at the end of the war in Europe range restrictions prevented them for being a factor in the Pacific.

Yes a few were in service, but it wasn't so much the range restrictions as the fact they were all owned by the NAZIs that kept them from being used in the Pacific. :D

The engines were a BMW design that the Soviets took after the war. They used that same engine on their MIGs through the 1960's, kept updating on the same basic design.

While I agree with the general premise that BB is a better coach than those other guys, I'm not persuaded by the specific argument "Belichick would never call a pass on 4th-and-short". :)

I just stumbled across the article and was happy that somebody had already started a thread on this article. For any that have not seen it yet, it is absolutely well worth reading.

Coaching during Ravens-Steelers game shows why Bill Belichick dominates the AFC | Mike Preston | Baltimore Sun

And as someone else warned, be advised to not ruin a great column by reading the column. I'm not enough of a masochist to do so, but I can just imagine what the Baltimore fans are saying in response to that piece.

They're not called Baltimorons for nothing.

Do you think that if BB was the head coach of the Dolphins starting right now they could have a winning record this season and further be at the level of the Patriots say in 2 years?

I've gone to Baltimore many times in the last 7 years, or so, to watch Red Sox/Orioles games. It was always a sort of a welcoming atmosphere until a couple of years ago. The hotels, restaurants and bars seemed always welcoming because, despite what Orioles' fans may tell you, very few people go to the games to root for the Zeros. The last time we went was very different. Due to the Pats/Ravens rivalry, it's dangerous territory for New England fans. The Baltimore fans are angry, violent and resentful towards us. I'll never go back. It's a perilous place.

That's insane, sorry to hear that.

I'm glad someone from an opposing team's city has the balls to say it. No the patriots aren't successful because they cheat. They are successful because their coaching staff out works and out prepares the pompous douchebag coaches they face every week.

Eh, the comments weren't that bad. This is sports fan-dom, one should expect on any forum there will be anger directed at the team that always wins. BB is successful because of Brady and/or cheating, Brady is successful because of BB or favored status amount refs. That's fairly normal fan whining.

One cannot overlook how well prepared the Patriots are and how they pay great attention to detail. No it will not always be perfect. BB will make mistakes too. But one would have to be blind to not see the Patriots put themselves in a position to succeed more often than most other teams. And that is a direct result of BB. It is a direct result of BB's almost inhuman consistency, an upbringing of X's and O's, and a fanatical belief that off field and on field contains ways to provide a small 'edge' and none should be overlooked.

Tomlin does not belong in the same sentence with BB. Harbaugh could have a very small mention in the same sentence as BB. This article is spot on.....

We are so used to the supreme competency that this organization represents, from coaching, on down, that for us, including me, it's puzzling and sometimes shocking to see games and personnel being so badly managed by other teams and their coaches, even on a professional level. I sometimes think, "how do you get away with that?"

I remember watching the Chiefs vs. Broncos MNF game and being stunned that Reid, in his 15 year career as HC still has not bothered to make sure that his team masters the 2 minute offense. It is just astounding, this lack of attention to detail. For me, if you can't be a professional, you shouldn't be part of the game at this level.

It makes me conclude that ownership is 100% accountable. How many owners buy a franchise without truly understanding the game? It's the only thing I can think of that makes sense in that all those bad coaches and personnel just keep sticking around, bouncing from one organization to another. It also explains why Vick, who is truly dumber than a bag of rocks, has managed to eke out a 15 year career.
We old timers remember the coaching of Clive Rush, Rod Rust, **** MacPherson and others all too well. Certainly, the ownership of Billy Sullivan and Victor Kiam played a big role.

I don't care what some hack writer in Baltimore says...we win cuz WE CHEAT!

krist, everybody knows THAT...

You knew Clive Rush was doomed the second he was electrocuted by a badly-grounded microphone at the press conference.

To his credit, though, he came up with a good one-liner when they helped him off the floor: "I heard the Boston Press was tough, but this is ridiculous."

I would guess not this year, as he would be stuck with the hand he was dealt.

In the off-season BB would get rid of players that did not fit in with his long-term vision, working to attain cap flexibility.

His major obstacle would be convincing Stephen Ross and the celebrity ownership shareholders to let him make the football decisions in terms of who to sign - or more specifically, not sign - in free agency each off-season.
