Who's your CB trade binky??

I don't know if there is one. Any corner who's potentially available is likely to be just as bad as Bradley Fletcher and Logan Ryan. Absent extenuating circumstances like Talib, teams don't usually trade away quality players. You never know - you may get lucky, but you probably won't, and Browner doesn't fit this year's defense.

Funny how things turned out with Talib, who was radioactive before the Patriots took him on for a little more than half of a season. Which reinforces your point.

Teams are not going to give up a good young corner. The Patriots would have to take on a problem that they think they could fix.

I don't think there's a Talib out there, either. Talib was a guy less than two years removed from what would probably have been an All Pro season had he not destroyed his hip after 12 games, and he was still just 26.

Talib was available because he:
  • Was on a bad team
  • Had an expiring contract
  • Hadn't played a full season since his rookie year
  • Had a lengthy history of character issues such as threatening a cab driver with a gun
  • Had just been suspended 4 games for PEDs, and therefore would be suspended for a full season should he fail another drug test
Talib was a pretty unique circumstance, and is more or less the exception that proves the rule. That he's avoided a season-long suspension - to say nothing of injury in Denver - and regained his form from the 2010 season is pretty remarkable. Wondering if there's another Talib out there for trade is like wondering if there's another Brady in the 6th round of the draft - sure, maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Alterraun Verner tumbles on Bucs' depth chart

TAMPA — Alterraun Verner came to town last year among the Bucs' biggest free agent additions, a Pro Bowl cornerback proudly signed to a four-year, $26 million contract.
On Sunday, for the first time in four years, he found himself on the bench, relegated to a backup role and busy on special teams kick coverage. That role is unlikely to change this week — at Friday's walkthrough, he wore a scout-team jersey, simulating an opposing receiver for the Bucs' starting secondary.

I would take a flyer on two Browns CBs. I like Desir at 6'2" and 25 years old and I would take a shot at Justin Rogers, first rounder who is lost but has talent. He's only 23.

Another might be Bene Benwikere from the Panthers. He started 10 games in 2014 as a rookie . 7 PBU. Decent size at 6' and 195 lbs."Good size. Excellent ball skills -- plays the ball in the air like a receiver. Competes in the air, can highpoint the ball and snag INTs with his hands. Quick to read run and pass. Has special-teams experience, including as a gunner and jammer. Good football intelligence. Demonstrated secondary versatility -- has played corner, safety and nickel back." Has only 4.6 speed abut almost a 41" jump.

The "steal" might be Alterraun Verner of the Bucs. He might have been a top five CB in 2013. He is only 26. Not playing a lot of snaps (dog house?).

I know CB is still a need but I still see WR Alshon Jeffrey of the Bears as doable. If LaFell is not healthy and Keyshawn Martin is more of a 5'10" or 5'11" Amendola/Edeleman type, if we can deal Dobson in that trade with another player who would be an instant Bears starter like a Wilson, why not?
DW Toys

Keshawn Martin is 5'11 4/8 inches tall with 9 1/4" hands. He has a 39 1/2" vertical and a Broadjump of 10'02".

Thinking that Alshon Jeffrey is available is just another one of your ridiculous pipe dreams..

The Panthers are playing good football. Why would they want to trade Benwikere?

If the Pats were to acquire Verner after this weeks game, they'd be responsible for $3.25M in salary for him. They barely have enough Cap space to fit him in right now..

I disagree that his contract is awful. The Pats would only be responsible for $3.25M of this year's salary and none of his future salaries are guaranteed.

Well then, in that case,

SIGN THE BEAST!!!!!!!

Serious question: Where did the term "Binky" come from?

I had never heard it used in that context prior to joining this forum. :)

It was a brand name of a pacifier made by Platex. Those of us who have had children know this.

From there, it kinda morphed into something more.

My youngest has a little cow blanket that is named "binky" or "B"

I had Travaris Cadet that I lost....not sure where he is. I'm still looking.

haha. I have kids but never called their pacifier a binky.

Thanks for that.

His contract is awful.

He was real good w/ TN.

I think he succeeded with Ten kinda how Chris Harris gets his ultra-hype in Denver. He was great at covering #2's because McCourty was getting toasted by the 1's that year. Harris has Talib to cover their top guys.

Verner got exposed real bad when Tampa tried to play man with him, though, I believe.

His ceiling is probably as a #2 playing zone. He also excelled in the AFCS remember, who have had some quality #1's, but 2-3 years ago you'd have trouble naming Andre Johnson's backup or ANY WR on the Jags. Hilton/Wayne were the only 1-2 punch and Verners good year may have been one of Waynes missed seasons.

Good insight.

I'd be ok with him covering #2s. The question is.....is he better than Ryan or Fletcher? If so, is he worth giving up a pick for? I would assume that he can be had for a low rounder as he is being overpaid based on his amount of playing time.

If Coleman bombs or if they think Dixon can't do it here they need to make a move.

Someone that can play man and zone would be nice :D

We have just enough to afford him. Though I don't know if he can fit our defensive scheme, since he mostly plays zone-coverage

He's a horrible fit here. He's an undersized Cover-2 zone CB. Belichick won't even consider trading for him.

49ers CB Wright reportedly seeking to be traded or released

Cornerback Shareece Wright wants out of the Bay Area without playing one game for
the San Francisco 49ers.

After learning that he was inactive for the third straight game, Wright posted on Twitter "politics as usual" before later deleting the tweet. Wright, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the 49ers, wants the club to either trade or release him, according to a report by the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

A third-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2011, Wright started 27 games for the Chargers over the previous two seasons.

Looking at the rosters of NFC teams who soon may be in seller's mode, the CBs in which I would have interest are:

Chris Culliver: no angel, and cap hit could be prohibitive after this season;

Tracy Porter

Rasheen Mathis: 35 years young?

Brandon Browner: probably the most logical choice, if the Price is Right;

Keenan Lewis: the best of the bunch, though coming off recent hip surgery;

Shareece Wright: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...s-cb-shareece-wright-seeking-trade-or-release

Tampa won't be in seller's mode for awhile, if at all, this season, but I wouldn't mind a return of Sterling Moore if he becomes available.

Looking at AFC rosters, I think that the only 2 teams who might trade with us down the line are
Cleveland for Tramon Williams (his new 3-year contract might make it impossible, however) and
San Diego for Patrick Robinson.

I got excited when I heard that Wright wanted to be traded, but having hardly seen him play, I did some research and walked away with the impression that he's at best, an average player who might be better than Fletcher as the #3 cornerback.

  • Pro Football Focus gave him a negative grade for his pass coverage in 11 of the 14 games he played last season, and graded him as the fourth-worst cornerback in the NFL (105th out of 108 corners)
  • Since 2013, he leads the NFL in defensive pass interference penalties in 2014
  • Does not have the deep speed to close the gap once he beat on go routes. Over aggressive at times and is susceptible to double moves.
  • Quarterbacks completed 40 of 70 passes thrown into Wright's coverage, putting up 513 yards and three touchdowns, with an average quarterback rating of 94.5. Wright's 2014 passer rating allowed of 95.5 was an improvement over his 99.9 mark in 2013 as a first-year starter but still concerning
  • Has a history of dealing with injuries. Worked 89.4 percent of the defense's snaps, down from 97.5 in '13. Sat out Games 5 and 6 with a knee injury; concussed in Game 15, he came back to start Game 16.
The biggest positive is that he has very limited impact on the Cap Space, with 700K in salary remaining, and $284,375 in 46-man active roster bonuses. That could be worth a low-round draft pick. I dunno
