Bears fire sale

Forte, Blount and Lewis in a full set in the backfield?! Why not. Bears, we'll give you Fletcher, Tavon Wilson and a sixth. LOL

Shouldn't most of these types of trades (i.e. not fitting into a system) be done in the off-season? Did they just figure out that these guys don't fit in or did they change the system last week?

Of course, they could be using this regular season as a pre-season for 2016. I'm sure the temptation in doing (something like) this is to take one out of the Indy Colt's playbook and play for that #1 pick, particularly if it's a player you need to replace in the near future. However, I digress... o_O

Money does not come remotely close to working. The Pats have $3M in cap room, and Forte has $5.8M salary remaining this year.

I don't disagree but I'm sure they could find a restructure to make it work. I don't see it happening but would love to see Forte in a Patriots Jersey.

I'm sure the Bears management foresaw a very long season of painful losses based on the team's performance so far. Dumping players now gives them a built-in justification for the team's inevitably awful play for the rest of the year, and maybe insulates them from the argument that they're doing the Suck-for-(the next)Luck.

I'm going to be in Chicago during the first week in December. Should I buy tickets for the comical disaster 49ers v. Bears game that Sunday?

The 49ers don't look so hot either so that could turn out to be an awesome game. BUY! BUY! BUY!

Kind of off topic: It's sad for their fans that they team is publicly giving up on the season, even if the W/L would end up the same. Why even watch the games?

If the coaches are so now sagacious about what player fits in the system now, why weren't they in the off-season?

When the Pats last lost their starting QB, they went 11-5.

The time before a dynasty was born.

With all this talk about Da Bears looking to clear the books and start fresh, which players would you like most and what would you give for them?
Forte?
Alshon Jeffery for Dobson and a later rounder?
Martellus Bennett?

Just curious....

Do we really know that the Bears are having a fire sale?

The only two trades they have made for draft picks are Jared Allen to CAR and Jonathan Bostic to NE. Chicago is transitioning from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense. Bostic was the leading tackler last year for Chicago in the 4-3, but seemed to have trouble transitioning to the 3-4 under Fox (partially because of injury). Jared Allen was also having trouble transitioning to the new 3-4 under Fox (at CAR he will return to the 4-3).

So: they have traded two defensive players that were successful in the 4-3 but were having trouble transitioning to the 3-4 under new coach Fox. That kind of makes sense for a coach that insists on the 3-4 (as opposed to somebody like BB who shifts alignments depending on game situation and personnel).

Does that really mean that Chicago is having a fire sale after only three weeks, and that offensive personnel are up for sale? Or, is there some other evidence of a fire sale in Chicago?

Tampa has a rookie #1 over all QB, they're not going to enter fire-sale mode IMO. Bears are blowing it up because they need a total rebuild and a good draft position.

All they need to do is convince the Rats that trading for Jay Cutler is the answer to their problems and get them to trade for him.

Oh the burning, it burns me

Oh, he'd be ****ing sick here, there's no question. Blount would end up getting 5 carries a game, and Lewis would be lucky to get offensive snaps.

I like Forte a lot, I think he's tremendous. I just don't know if the money works, or if it makes sense bringing in what will amount to an 18-month rental.

I agree. Forte on the Pats? Eeee gads. Up in Packer land we see Forte twice a year, and believe me, he is damn good.

I'd go for O'Donnell, who punted on every possession (10) on Sunday. Unfortunately he punted so many times he sprained his knee.
Yeah, we need depth at punter, because ours is so overworked.

Their fans already want him, which I find odd, I think i'd keep Fitz over him, Cutler is just bad these last 2 years. Really bad.

Forte carries that offense so hard, I'd LOVE him, I kinda look at Forte like and older Leveon Bell, they both play with styles that combine Lewis and Blount into a complete back.

I remember a few years back it felt like we had legitimate interest in him until he signed for WR money. Too bad, it's weird to think that any player can put an offense as good as ours "over the top" as we generally tend to be there, but Forte is one of the best RB's for a pass heavy offense in the past decade, we'd redefine "over the top" with him, probably still would.
