Time to make sure the gutters are cleaned and that the sump pump and marine backbatteries are in working order.... This is one of those that could drop 5-10 inches here depending on the track.....up

Looks like it's going to hit my hometown (Va Beach), an area that's avoided "the big one" for over 80 years, though Isabel was close. It may damn well lay waste to the town in NC where all my stuff is stored while I'm on deployment...which blows.

Anyway, y'all be safe and if you insist on going out, keep your head on a swivel.

Anyone know around when this is expected to hit New England area (if it does)? I'm in Pennsylvania so I might get slammed right along with @shmessy

well, remember that mod Shmessy?? I always liked that guy. I know I used to vex him because of all the complaints about me going off on Goodell but you know, he let me loose and gave me the freedom to express what I was SEEING and feeling about Der Omissioner Goon. Years later it all paid off when the entire fanbase finally opened their eyes to this cretinous disgrace.

For that, Shmessy should be remembered as OUR Protector Of The Shield. I would now like to ask for a moment of silence in memory of this fine young Patriot defender of the board.the rest of us might want to book flights out of the northeast to "destination anywhere but here"...

Headed twords Baltimore, with New England on a bye week? Yeah this must be the doing of the Patriots :p

I kid, I kid. In all seriousness, hope anyone in the projected path stays safe. I'm here in Florida and it feels weird having a hurricane that big this close and told not to worry about it.

Please take care of my children, Joe.......

UPDATE: It is now a Category 3, surprised how rapidly it is intensifying. The new 0z GFS model has trended east. If we were going off this model alone, it looks to make landfall near Atlantic City, NJ.

I was in Mississippi immediately after Katrina, which was a Category 3 when it hit the Gulf Coast. Until you see the devastation, you really can't understand it. The sensory overload of ruptured sewer pipes and rotting food and decaying carcasses of dead animals as well as mold from everything being wet. It isn't always the rain and wind that do the damage but the "storm surge" which can be a 10-20 foot wall of water that destroys everything in its path and can still be 3 feet high a mile or two inland....
I would not want to be anywhere near a coast when a hurricane comes ashore...
However.........On the flip side, a second hurricane Rita came through several weeks later and there was something very exhilarating standing on the roof of a parking lot (tied down to stabilize and prevent being blown away- literally) while 80 mile an hour winds whip through as you face Mother Nature....Scratch that one off my bucket list........

Delays already up and down the east coast airports.

I wonder how many of the Pats players will be able to make it back in time for Monday's practice.

Belichick may have to sit the entire team in the Gray/Spikes doghouse and forfeit the Cowboy game.

Well good news is it will weaken before landfall, bad news is moving rather slowly, sorta a Francis type storm sustained winds snd rain.

The U.S. Has been pretty lucky with hurricanes over the past 10 years, we are due I guess. May hit NE Tuesday/Wensday. Wonder if the team will head to Texas a couple of days early for practice.

Nice knowin' ya.

Hey, maybe it'll take out the Ravens too.
When Johnathan Kraft was asked about the hurricane "it's too bad, it really is. John Harbaugh is a sweet heart."

Stuck in Carolina! Annoyed...... Thanks U.S Airways!!!!!

Well if we don't see Siliga next Sunday, we'll know why.

I've been through a lot of hurricanes in my life if that bad boy is a Cat 3-4 when it makes landfall, it's going to wreak havoc. Cat 3's have still been hurricane party time in Florida. You get as much beer as possible, get your friends together, and cook a feast before the power goes out. But a 3 is where you begin to get nervous. You can hear the trees crack and fall outside and the shingles and sophets blowing off the house. Hopefully it's a Cat 1-2. Those are really just bad tropical storms.

Uh-oh. I'm in Northern Virginia. They are talking of moving the Skins/Eagles game on Sunday.

Hope he's got himself a rental car with a lot of leg room.

The different computer models are all over the place in their predictions of where this is going to go.

Take any "projected path" prediction with a big grain of salt.

each 'spaghetti track" results from a different program:

this is a good site for hurricane updates, with nice graphics based upon NHC data.
