Patriots Trade Hooman to the Saints for Akiem Hicks

Perhaps Hicks will be here when Chris Jones comes back, perhaps not. In any case, we could use another inside DT.
They'll know if Hicks is an upgrade over Jones soon enough.

If Hicks plays like he did in 2013 he is a substantial upgrade over Jones.

It's not hate really, it's just he's making a LOT of money for someone who's average at blocking and has hands of stone, and was only really here because he was one of Joshy's binkies from St. Louis.

Looks like Joshy lost another one. Is Greg Salas still available? :)

He has very good hands. Nothing else out of the ordinary, though.

Yup, lol. Not sure I understand trading for a DE though, we're pretty stocked there. They also run a 3-4 front, don't they? What type of DE is Hicks?

He's the 324 lb type. definitely DT competition here. He's 6'5" too.

When was the last time we had 11 DL's on the 53? Crazy depth.

BTW, with all the concerns people had about our roster before the beginning of the season, now it seems that we either upgraded or stayed the same in every position besides CB. And I'm 101% sure we'll trade for a corner before the deadline.

Just saw the team cut Watson and 3 guys from the PS including Thompkins. I wonder how that plays into things from a roster space perspective.

Sounds like BB is loading up to kill QBs while keeping everyone fresh. I really like this trade a lot.

+ That's what I was thinkin'. Who knows? Maybe a really good corner will come down the line, but what's not to like about the strength/depth/upside of the last few deals (LB & DT/E)? Did the rotation just get stronger/tougher?

Came over here to get your take on Hooman. From what I have read in this thread, it sounds like a good deal for both teams. We desperately need a TE. Payton has been using a lot of 3-TE formations this year, and using a backup RT as a 3rd TE really doesn't lead a defense to worry about the 3rd TE much. Glad to read he is a solid special-teamer as well.

Rob Ryan came to the Saints in 2013. He wanted to run a 3-4, but inherited Spagnuola's NFL record worst 4-3 defense. Ryan had to play a lot of 4-3 in 2013 with Hicks in the DT rotation. He did quite well. Ryan is running more 3-4 this year, and Hicks has been getting less and less playing time as a 3-4 DE. His ideal spot is a 4-3 DT.

Maybe both coaches saw something they liked during the joint practices at the Greebrier.

By the way, nice smackdown on our dear old buddy Roger.

Wonder if Flowers is going to IR?

Also what does this sat about Chandler Jones future when his contract is up at the end of the season.
Different player, different position.

So who do we want from the Ravens?

Others have alluded to my points earlier, but I'll repeat them for emphasis.

This is one of the benefits of joint practices, you get a good at other teams' players, their practice effort, etc.

Also, I think Hooman was inactive last week so that Keshawn Martin could be active. Looks likely to have been inactive for a while going forward so BB got good value for a guy unlikely to contribute here.

What does it take to get out of this On the Game Day Roster level? With all of BB'S cuts and trades today I'm worried about getting kicked out of the club.

Not athletic or a great blocker. Smart, reliable and good hands. Stuck on this team a looong time while we cut many tight ends.

Seems Hicks started a lot of games. He's definitely a tackle here, so return the favor, can he stop run/penetrate?

We're going completely different with pass rushers at DT, but we need players who can do both IMO, otherwise we're letting teams of the hook by playing our bigger DTs.

Oh, and welcome. Saints fans get a good rep from Pherein, probably the favorite opposition poster here.

Man this trade is awesome. Bill the GM has been killing it lately.

Wonder if Lombardi factors in there at all, or what sort of influence he has? BB has really seemed to tighten it up since he came on board.

Seems like maybe another case of BB nabbing a 3-4 misfit for his 4-3.
