How Many Quarterbacks Have To Go Down Before Polo Gets More Reps?

Relevant: When Gronkowski broke his arm blocking during a PAT, there were a lot of angry fans (including my boss). BB's reaction: "What should I do, put someone else in to block because if he gets injured, he isn't as important"? Team first; that's the way he thinks.

Ummm yeah! Another guy likely won't be as important. Using Gronk like that was a very high risk/low reward move.

Are Tommy4207 and Tony2046 cousins or something? I can't tell them apart.

MG trolling. Of course he knows that "football players play football."

That any real Patriots fan would ever use the term garbage time in the Bill Belichick era is inane.

Think about it ... garbage time does not exist ...

Because it's not ping pong. It's football. If you're on the field you at a higher risk of injury than if you are sitting on the bench waiting for the game to end.

This all day

Of course it does, and we've seen BB acknowledge that many times by his actions.

I'm a big believer in the adage "discretion is the better part of valor". I personally prefer they yank the 1st stringers during blowouts to eliminate unnecessary abuse but to each his own.

I don't care about the FU tour that much. I'd rather stay healthy and win the bowl, that's the biggest FU in the end. I don't need to see 40-50 burgers every week. "Just win baby!"

We all breathed a sigh of relief when Brady got up after being sacked while playing with a 30 point lead.
Today, I am coming out of the closet...........Yes.........I too breathed a sigh of relief when Brady rose to his feet.
I can admit it. I will not let internet machismo bully me anymore. Join me.....be honest with yourself for a change........Say it with me......I was shi**ing my pants when Brady got bent like an Uggs wearing pretzel.

Slightly OT.....Anyone watch the Mets game tonight....a meaningless game. Cespedes was drilled in the hand and it didn't look good......the one batter that team cannot afford to lose heading into the playoffs.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy????????
And I'm not even a Mets fan. But I do recognize stupidity.....and Brady chucking balls deep into the 4th quarter of a massive blowout and taking hits qualifies as such.

He had Gronk, Edelman and Lewis on the sidelines for most of the 4th Qtr. IIRC

I get it.

You must all play fantasy football. Are there really other explanations for Brady playing late in the 4th when the team is up by 3 scores. Surely, pats fans don't care about stats.

So, if Brady got hurt, everyone here would REALLY be saying that it's just part of the game, and that it part of a winning team for Brady to play every down, except kneel downs. Really?

It is not an issue of running up the score. I'd be fine if Polo went in and scored 4 TD's.

He's the quarterback, and the coach decided to put him out there.

How's that for an explanation?

It's pretty bad. I think he knows how the chain of command works on the team, he didn't need that to be clarified, he wanted to know the thought process behind that decision.

I don't think it made any sense to have TFB out there at that point, I'd have had Grop getting reps.

Well, thankfully you're not coaching the team. The best coach in the league is. I'm-a take his side on this one. He knows more about football than either of us.

So your opinion is "whatever BB says " ?

Because Daddy said so.....

Great argument.

I sure am glad Belichick doesn't care what common fans think!!

Heck, even I don't care what they think as long as we have Belichick

There's a few explanations.

First Brady took his last drive with 13:18 left in the fourth. So essentially the entire quarter. Then they ran a 9 minute drive. So I guess if you feel he should sit the entire fourth quarter then that's one perspective. But I don't know that I've ever seen any QB do that on any team. There's half a dozen blowouts every Sunday and it just doesn't happen. Maybe in some extraordinarily rare case but I can't think of one.

Second is the overall snaps. If the Pats don't convert (and they are less likely with their BU) then the other team Executes three quick passes with very little clock. Repeat again and again and now you've doubled the snaps the defense played and probably played just as many on offense. So it's only less risky to Brady, more to everyone else.

Third, the chances of Garropalo laying a receiver out, or messing up a handoff are much higher and that can cause fumbles and piles and dangerous plays.

Add in that Brady essentially just made two yard passes and handed it off except on third and you have some pretty low risk plays. Brady didn't have the ball long enough to get sacked except on maybe three plays, so the odds of an injury are slim.

There's also the getting better factor. So I don't think it's a simple decision, and there are positive reasons beyond statistics.

All I can think about after reading this thread title is

It made plenty of sense to have Brady out there at that point. People disagreeing with the obvious logical arguments doesn't miraculously change that.
