Patriots Trade Hooman to the Saints for Akiem Hicks

Trade a #7 for Mike Williams who's a better blocker than HooMan, move HooMan for Hicks, basically get Hicks for a #7; and if Hicks does OK we could get a comp pick back for him, he's eligible and young, big DL can get better contracts than you might expect.

I was thinking the same thing. For a 7th you upgraded the run blocking, saved some cap space, added a few years to the contract and brought in a DT who looks to be at least a contributor. Very impressive.

This trade is actually a positive for Hooman, he will get reps a lot of them in fact and have a chance to make some money in free agency.
Hooman is very good blocker and a good team guy that can catch a ball every now and then.

Even during the bye week, the action never stops with the Pars:cool: Great trade.

If this kid Hicks can play at all, we won the trade. Since Hooman had lost his job, after all, and was going to be in Healthyscratch City the rest of the year.

He can always play poorly and cost us field position, which would be a net loss for us since as you said Hooman likely wasn't seeing the field again. Hicks will still need to play good for us to have won.

Definitely a DT in our defense. Similar build to Alan Branch but more athletic.

The oldest Patriot Players in order (except QB and K) are Ninkovich (31), Vollmer (31), and Branch (turns 31 in December). The first two in particular are absolutely indispensable Patriots, and, IMHO, very underrated. Nevertheless, BB is always thinking a few years down the road. BB has brought in several 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB types. He re-signed Cannon at a cost that was incredulous to many for a back-up OT. And, now he has brought in Hicks, who looks like a younger, more athletic Branch. Again, BB is always planning a few years down the road.

@GregABedard: Gives vet option at 3-tech, just Easley (durability). They didn't have another. 3 two-gappers (Branch, Brown Siliga) https://t.co/SJrfKH7wck

Remember the days of Love, Deaderick, Vellano, Chris Jones, Justin Francis, etc. as primary DL backups?

Siliga, Branch, Brown
Easley, Hicks
Jones, Ninkovich, Sheard, Flowers (Johnson/Grissom)

The DL will almost never be gassed with this rotation.

One CB trade away from our most complete team since 07/04.

TBF - if he plays poorly, he'll just be in Healthyscratch Land himself - so it's a wash....except we might get a comp pick for him.

I've seen Hooman's blocking described as mediocre/average, good and very good from fans today.

BB is letting Goodell know that losing the 2016 1st round pick isn't going to stop him from creating a top team for years to come.

And one open roster spot hopefully means that is in the works.

Now just get a corner. Please Bill. We might have the best front 7 in the AFC when all is said and done, we just need that corner too.

I love these points because it's a nice reminder when even I'm sitting here thinking "don't we already have the depth...."

Never enough.

I liked Hooman, but Michael Williams is a really fun player to have on the team. Guy is a friggin giant and is a very capable blocker. We're going to mow over Indy so easy. Hope we bring in Trent Richardson as the guy to do it to them.

It probably grades out around average. It was weird. Sometimes, he'd be like a roadgrader. Other times, he was like a turnstile.

@evansilva: Really bizarre trade by the #Saints. I'd wager we'll see Akiem Hicks making plays for the #Patriots later this season & in the playoffs.
