The play nobody is talking about from Sunday

There is none anymore. The NFL seems to have moved toward a general trend of not making refs judge intent (at least as much as possible), and part of that is that the force out rule is entirely gone. Receiver has to get both feet in bounds, and if the defender has to carry him out of bounds to prevent it then so be it. Still incomplete.

Trying to avoid having refs judge the intent of a player is why the tuck rule existed. Rather than trying to figure out if a QB's arm is going forward to make a pass or tuck it away, the rule was called the way Walt Coleman called it.

I still can't believe we can't find snaps for that man on defense.

It's not about finding snaps, Slater is just an awful safety. You might as well play Brandon Bolden back there.

Players know how to act. It's easy enough to make a carry look as if it's just a shove, because "carry" doesn't have to be a fireman's carry type of thing. Also, you're allowed a wrap up tackle, even of players in the air. Anything within about 5-7 feet of the sideline is easy to do, and up to 10 feet can be pulled off under the right circumstances.

Is there any move on a football field that you don't find easy? You must have been one hell of a player.

I'm just saying I'm surprised he couldn't be a hybrid S/lber with his speed, intelligence, and tackling. Guess it didn't work out for whatever reason.

Just goes to show how hard the game really is. Slater's speed, intelligence and fearlessness is still not anywhere near enough to make a quality safety.

This was *****ing awesome. One of the best most heads up plays I've ever seen from a rookie (well pretty sure it was intentional). Favorite play so far this season.

I love the play but not by the Patriot love the way Allen Robinson Attacked the Football only if we had a WR on the Patriots with a similar build *not named LaFell* who could do that.:p:cool: Allen Robinson will be a Elite WR down the road. Jordan Rickards looked Good with extended playing time.

The thing is that the force-out no longer exists. The receiver has to have possession of the ball and both feet inbounds. If he doesn't, even if it's not his "fault" that he doesn't (because, for example, someone prevented him from coming down inbounds) it's still an incompletion. The whole point of the change is that the refs no longer have to try to decide if the receiver would have come down inbounds if he wasn't touched.

It was a damn good rule change. Eliminating any subjectivity from the officials is good. Moreover, the original rule made little sense. Forcing the receiver out of bounds before he can land on two feet should be rewarded!

I thought this was a phenomenal play as well, though I was unsure who did it. Good to hear that it's the rookie safety, didn't realize he had inherited the #37.
