Wetzel: Brady and Rodgers in a class by themselves

Hate to say it, but it is a team game and player X can be as good as player Y even without the same
number of rings.

Step one:

Make a list of your top 20 QBs of all time. Note how few of them are ringless. Then note how many fewer didn't ever make the SB.

Step two:

Take a look at your top 10. Note how many of them didn't either win multiple SBs or multiple "Championships" (pre SB days).

Step three:

Realize that your post, while technically accurate and theoretically dead on, is quite misleading when applied to real life NFL history. The best win championships. The very best do it more than once.

A nervous matchup for the pats i must admit. i can envision our defense drop back and wait for him to pick it apart, exciting also to see two top qb in a superbowl shootout.
A New England vs Green Bay Superbowl would be an epic shootout! Both defenses would have their work cut out for them! Rodgers could get hot & light us up while Tom could get hot & light them up! If the Pats are fortunate to get to the Superbowl I hope they finally get a blowout win! I'm sick of these cliffhangers that's almost sent me to the hospital!

Assuming Rodgers even made it that far, I'd love the Patriots chances in that one, with 2 weeks to prepare.

I loved the Patriots' chances against the Giants with 2 weeks to prepare :(

Which time?

Not the second time, for me. The Patriots were flaw city that year with a horseshoe up their ass.

And they did have the lead in the 4th quarter of both games. 07 required the biggest ******** luck catch in the history of ******** luck catches (if that's 2006 instead of 2007, Harrison is there a half-step earlier). 11 required a brutal drop by Welker that would have sealed the game, as well as the best pass Eli Manning has ever thrown in his life.

It's not like they were blown out.

Why can't Brady have a Rex Grossman super bowl??

The last one was just too insane.

Belichick would coach circles around Mike McCarthy but it won't matter much if Rodgers can T off on our secondary. I don't want to face him unless the picture really changes in a few months.

with two weeks, no chance BB gets outcoached by a glorified gym teacher.
mccarthy is jim tomsula

seriously man, we are due a blowout win where tom throws 6 td's in a rout!

I wanted a cowboys vs pats superbowl. That would be a nice matchup. I am curious how our d line will matchup with that offensive line in a couple of weeks. Stopping the running game will be key.

It's simple if you had to win one game to save your life you would choose TB12 over anyone. Yes even at 38

Beating Rodgers in the SB would be unbelievably awesome, but losing.....we'd never ever hear the end of it.
That's true of any Super Bowl you lose. If anyone should know this, it's us...

Yeah, it kind of is Peyton Manning....

When he lost to the Giants, he had a 15-1 team going up against a 9 win team, and he got beat by 17, at home, in a game where he threw a pick and fumbled...

That's got Peyton Manning written all over it.

Except for the fact that the primary reason why GB lost to the Giants in 2011, and the 49ers in 2012 was not Rodgers, it was the GB defense collapsing and being abused. Add to that the fact that last year Rodgers had a frickin' torn calf and playing on one leg FFS , and in 2013 coming back just after 8 weeks out with a collarbone fracture, and your comparison of Rodgers to Manning is pretty lame.

When was the last time in a major playoff game or SB the Patriots defense collapsed on them or Brady had to play with a serious injury?

Take nothing away from the Pats, but the comparison of Rodgers to Manning? Nope. Rodgers is not the choker Manning has been.

Blaming the defense is utter nonsense:

FG scored on short field after offensive fumble
TD scored after Rodgers failed to either run down the clock or move the team prior to the end of the first half. Rodgers got the ball with less than two minutes in the half and barely took a minute off the clock, giving the Giants an opportunity for a pre-half score.
FG after a failed 4th down attempt
TD scored on short field after offensive fumble
TD scored on short field after failed onsides kick attempt

That's 27 points, of the 37, off of Packers offensive/ST failures.

Baltimore put 31 points on the board in the first playoff game last season. Brady brought the Patriots back from 14 points behind, twice.

Brady is in a class of his own.

Until Rodgers can dominate in the playoffs as he does in the regular season, he can't be considered to be on Brady's level.
Thank you. Finally someone says it. Other than the one year he won it, he is 2-5 in the playoffs with three" one and dones"....In the playoffs, he's Eli with one less ring..
As for who will represent the NFL, as of now it looks like Sea, Arizona or GB. If Seattle wins the west and has HFA, I give them the advantage. If Arizona wins the division and Seattle has to go on the road, either Arizona or GB gets the nod and it would depend on where the NFCCG is played. IF the choice is GB or Glendale, I give the nod to the home team.....

the league should have checked to see if they had enough good QB's when they decided it should be a passer's game.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

"We're on to Dallas."

as well as the best pass Eli Manning has ever thrown in his life.

As well as several of Eli's patented, "the only reason that pass worked is because it was so poorly thrown" balls.

Man, Vince nearly got there in time on that play as well.

I was debating whether to re-write this post after deleting it, because I don't know these men personally, and as much as Rodger's arrogance irritates me, that should not detract from his skills as a player.

That said, it has to be mentioned, that the thing that sets Brady apart from Rodgers, is his rare personality. Tom Brady is truly an exceptional human being. He has the heart of a champion, has a work ethic that astonishes his teammates, and never sets himself above others despite all his success. It's amazes me that Tom Brady has so many critics and fans who hate him, because enough can't be said about his personal traits, nevermind his leadership abilities!

I won't highlight Brady at the expense of Rodgers. Like I said, I don't know either men, and I don't want to downplay Rodger's playing abilities. But to me, he isn't a likeable guy and I think there's some truth to the complaints about him being arrogant, conceited, and a prima donna. And the more people anoint him the greatest of all QBs, the more that feeds into his ego.

The point is, if I'm a player, I'd rather play for Tom Brady than Aaron Rodgers - even if I stand a better chance of winning with the other guy. That's the kind of loyalty and respect Tom Brady has deserved. Shame on the media for trying to degrade him!!!

Rodgers played poorly in the 2011 NFC playoff game against the Giants. I get it, and yes he did. The whole Green Bay team played poorly that day. It was probably Rodgers' worst playoff game.

But using that as a basis to compare Rodgers to Manning is weak. I could take Brady's performance against the Giants in the SB as an example of a poor performance on Brady's part in a huge game. 29/48 passing, with only 1 TD. Eli Manning came up big with 2 4th quarter TDs where Brady didn't. The Giants' defense stifled the powerful Patriots offense most of the game, and Brady and the offense had several 3-and-outs. Brady was not good. What does that prove? Even the best QBs don't play great all the time. Would I use that against Brady the way that some fools do? No. People like to point to Montana because he was 4-for-4 in SBs, but Montana lost some playoff games too where he looked anything like the great Joe Montana.

Your comparison of Rodgers to Manning is the point that I'm contesting here. Here's why: it's about potential. Manning is at the end of his career and his window is closing. His arm is not what it used to be and the chances for him to redeem himself with another SB victory are fading away. If he doesn't do it this year, then it ain't gonna happen. Rodgers on the other hand is in his prime. After 2010's SB run, the Packers have not shined in the playoffs--2011 and 2012 were bad. 2013 and 2014 were not so bad, but ultimately playing on 1 leg against an elite defense like Seattle wasn't going to do it, never mind GB's defensive collapse. But Rodgers is most likely going to have more chances. His game is there, he has a head coach and an organization that is stable and which continues to bring in talent--like Brady has enjoyed with the Pats. The potential for Rodgers and the Packers to go deep into the playoffs and have a shot at the SB in the coming years is pretty good.

John Elway did not win a SB until very late in his career. He was the Peyton Manning next to Joe Montana, the loser and the choker in Denver. Then all of sudden when everyone had pretty much written Elway off in to the Marino class of great QBs who couldn't win a SB, he wins 2.

All you soccer fanatics tell me if this comparison is fair

Tb12=Lionel Messi(Barcelona Messi )
Rodgers = CR7

Now I'm a Madrid fan, but Brady like Messi wins championships and plays at the highest elite level consider the GOAT by many at the club level...

Aaron is like CR7 he has all the athletic skills in the world at the QB position can throw any football has the stats has some hardware to go with it too, but like CR7 with the Champions(although he has 2 one with United aND one with Madrid) he only has one Superbowl. Now football is more team oriented than soccer cause in soccer a player of Messi and CR7 caliber can change the dynamic of the teams and their title aspirations, I just figured that's a fair comparison
