Clearly whomever it is, the Bears are going after them with the wholesale roster cleaning they are doing..
I mean, trading Bostic to the Pats, Allen to the Panthers, and letting safety Brock Vereen go. I know that they are getting Jay Ratliff back, but does Ratliff really equate to being better than those three?

Anyone else at least slightly intrigued by Vereen? He's got NFL genes (Shane's brother), his measurables are good, he just turned 23 last month, and his rookie deal lasts through 2017. Seems like a pretty decent opportunity to take a low-cost flyer on a guy who should be a capable STer at worst, and at best might be able to play a bit at a position where we don't exactly set the world on fire.

I realize he's looked really bad so far, but OTOH who's looked good in Chicago's secondary since he got there? It's a dumpster fire back there, they all look like garbage, and that's the kind of setting where someone with some actual potential might not show it. Just one year ago, he was a consensus third round pick. I have a hard time believing that he's become so much worse in a single year that he's now unworthy of a waiver claim.

I would be interested... Problem is the team already has a couple of special teams safeties. Don't see how they would fit him.

Umm.. I think our 4 safeties after McCourty have looked good. Not exactly sure what Brock Vereen would bring that we don't already have better of.

Ebner and Wilson are both FAs after this year, so I'd be fine with cutting either of them to make room for Vereen. Even if he's no better than them, he's on a rookie contract for two more years after this one, so those extra years of cost control would help. And there's a good chance he will be better than them. Neither of them are so good on ST that Vereen can't replace them.

Rosen from ucla will be a franchise QB. He's just a freshman.

Ebner is the 2nd best player on special teams behind Slater so I don't understand where you say he's not that good. The only reason Ebner was inactive was because he had an injury.

I see the logic. Makes sense to me.

I somehow found myself watching an FCS playoff game last year and was very impressed by QB Carson Wentz from NDSU. 6'6" 230 with some mobility. I think he'll become a hot commodity by draft day, but his small school status might hold him back.

Early thoughts:

Goff: no opinion
C. Jones: Bust
C. Hackenberg: Bust
C. Cook: Like him the most so far

They already have an Andrew Luck: his name is Jay Cutler.

They are twin turnover machines of different mothers, although Luck seems to have a way better attitude.

We'll agree to disagree on that. Luck is a much better QB than Cutler.

Yes. Mentioned him in another thread. Even more intrigued because two on my early fave potential draft picks are the Minnesota CB tandem Briean Boddy-Calhoun and Eric Murray who both play in a man-coverage cover-1 system a little like ours. So Vereen, as a former teammate of those two becomes that little more interesting to me. A Rutgers Golden Gophers defensive backfield as it were (with some SAlabama/Tennessee/Marshall/Stanford thrown in of course :) )

I don't agree with that assessment of Ebner, but even if that is the case, that just means Wilson is the guy you would cut. I'm fine with either of them going, but only one would have to.

I don't much like Jones either, but to me cooks isn't that special either, he is going to be Dalton for somebody.

More accurately, Ebner has only been inactive because of injury. Ever.

All I remember about Hackenberg was that he loved to fumble that ball. I only watched Penn State games when Billy O was coaching them.

That's back when Hackenberg was actually looking promising. The tide has certainly shifted since then.
