The pace Jamie Collins is on..

They need to extend him while they can still afford him. .

He's going to command huge money in free agency. .. huge, huge money. .
We should sign him now. And should be willing to give up an arm and a leg while we're at it. If it means trading Mayo then we have to do it.

Jamie Collins should be illegal, shouldn't be possible to move as fast as he does at his size.

2 plays stand out for me, from last season.

One I think it was against the Bills in week 17, he did a hat trick, I don't remember quite well, but he sacked the QB and recover the fumble and did another thing in the same play. It was absurd.

And the other play was against the Ravens in the divisional round. He sacked Flacco in a crucial moment, it was going to seal the deal but Revis got flagged and nullified that amazing play.

So far he has 22 tackles (15 solo), 3.5 sacks, and 2 FF. Right now he is on pace for about:

Approx 120 tackles (80 solo)

Around 17-18 sacks (!)

And 8 FF.

Now while that pace is very unlikely for him to keep up (namely the sacks) it needs to be noted how well he has been playing so far. I'll go as far as to say he has been arguably the best defensive player in the league so far statistically. He is making all the tackles, getting to the quarterback, and causing turnovers. That is pretty much doing everything a defensive player can do.

You don't see guys like him very often. I don't only see him being a pro bowler by the end of the year. I see him being in contention for defensive player of the year at the end of this year.
Jamie Collinses don't grow in trees.

Might be Top 5 in BB draft picks.

I think he's gonna get a very long contract in the Gronkowski range - Doubt he gets into FA before 2020 atleast...

It's nearly impossible to exceed that expectation, though

No kidding. Although you sorta just said Jamie Collins would.

Belichick did win 2 rings with Lawrence Taylor, you know.

Well....

I did? I said DPOY candidate but not best defensive player of all time candidate! Still way too early in Collins' career to even have that be considered. ;)

Also 11 QB hurries. (2 in 3 games so far)

This full season projection number is probably low. Just like the sack number is probably high, as they are intertwined. He's been getting the sacks so far, but it'll probably even out and some higher percentage will turn into hurries.

2 weeks ago, Gronk was on pace for 48 TDs. Small sample sizes = wacky extrapolations. Can't really take this "on pace for" stuff seriously until maybe week 8 at the earliest.

I really hope they continue to send him after the QB

He's blitzing a lot more than often than last year it seems

Still crazy to believe that the Patriots turned one pick into Collins, Duron Harmon, Josh Boyce (hey, he helped Malcolm Butler win the SB, if nothing else) and LeGarrette Blount. :D
I think it was Logan Ryan in the 3rd round rather than Harmon. Thank you Minnesota!!
