Another thing that is overlooked with Ellis is His measurable. Very athletic for a guy who is 6'5 and 346b's.

Huh, I have the exact opposite take on Ellis -- that his measurables are so good that people are tempted to overlook pretty much everything else about him. Check out this college resume:

- Multiple positive drug tests
- Consistent reports of attitude problems
- Repeatedly out of shape and in coaches' dugouts
- Suspended for three games South Carolina due to multiple infractions
- After more trouble, kicked off South Carolina team
- Transferred to Hampton and excelled against lower level of competition
- Arrested for assault, pled guilty
- Suspended from Hampton team for unspecified infractions

That and an eye-popping measurables line gets you a 3rd-round selection from the Jets.

Typical Female.... Constantly bringing up **** from the past!

The dude has been the league for 4 years with ZERO incidents. That is a larger body of time where he has been a mature professional then the time he was a immature young man who grew up in a tuff part of Jamaica. People do grow up and change you know, hits the 4 years of a clean record.

If his past was a real issue, I'm sure they wouldn't have even brought him inn in the first place. His weight and shape are most likely the issue. Thats what escalators and weight incentives are for!

Not that it matters much because Ellis we re-signed by the Giants, but there is a reason the Jets didn't re-sign him..

BTW, Ellis' jail time was spent after his rookie season. It took him that long to reach a plea deal. Though, to his credit, he did serve his two yeas of probation without incident.. Of course, it could have been because he'd have been deported if he screwed up..

He may or may not be better than Thornton.
If Thornton gives it everything he has here, then he has a chance to become a 4th/5th DT;
I don't think that's even a possibility with Vellano.

Perfectly reasonable take , as always. I definitely think the half hour you have seen Joe Vellano play football outweighs the views of all of the Patriots scouts and coaches who spent every day with him and broke down the tape afterwards.

He wasnt resigned by the jets because of the depth and talent on their roster in terms of D-line players.

I cant say the same about the Giants though.

I think we were all relieved to see an improvement in talent at DL, which forced an "average Joe" like Vellano (pun intended) off of the 53 man roster.

That said, I think he's an okay PS player who has experience and knowledge of our system. While certainly underwhelming in talent, it's possible that his other traits can be useful if injury arises. We'll have to see how it plays out. That practice squad DT position (or two) may be rotating quite frequently throughout the season.

The practice squad serves two purposes:
1) player development - high upside, but unknowns
2) depth for the current roster

Maybe Thornton is inconsistent and not ready this year so the team picked up Vellano in case of an emergency where he could step in for a few games with predictable results. I wouldn't be surprised when Chris Jones comes back that Vellano is cut and the practice squad adds a Rufus Johnson or some other higher upside player.

It was obvious that they liked something in Cadet, because he kept sticking around when people were expecting him to be cut. Given what Lewis has shown now, it makes sense that they'd be comfortable with one fewer guy at that position.

Cadet's release feels like a short-term move to me. Call it a gut feeling.

You think he'll be back on the roster? Or will he get on the practice squad?

I'm not sure if you're referring to me or someone else here, but I sure as hell wasn't attacking the decision to bring Vellano back. I'm pointing out that clearly they like him, that's all.

Bears have just waived S Brock Vereen (Shane's brother). Pretty sure we showed pre-draft interest in him and he fits the type of smart player BB likes. I wouldn't be surprised if we had interest in him.

Have you watched him play at all?

He's pretty bad, from what I've seen.
