Miguel: CB Keenan Lewis would only cost 700K in cap space via Trade

they wouldn't get a 1st round pick for Nink or Mayo, if they really didnt want Mayo they probably would have cut him in the offseason

They wouldn't get a first round pick for anyone on the roster, except maybe Brady.

I didn't say anything about a first round pick. I want a player in return.

They wanted Mayo, but on their terms, and he took a pay cut. Mayo barely plays, Ninkovich has played like dogshit all season, and Fletcher hasn't played at all.

I think the Patriots would be just fine without any of those guys.

Looks to me that the biggest asset most of these CB reaches have is that they don't play for the Pats. Is this the silly season? Why are there so many pleas for players who aren't good enough to play for the bad teams they are already on. What makes them suddenly better than what we already have. Keenan Lewis sounds nice but makes zero sense for the Saints to trade him, ZERO.

Then there are the fools who are on their 4th consecutive year trying to get rid of league's most dependable and productive DE/LB. It's like EVERY alternative is a better one than the guy who has been one of the best at his position since he's become a starter.

I'd love to find a quality CB in a trade. So would about 30 other teams. Part of the problem is that there aren't 30 starting quality CB's in the league to begin with, let alone ones that are available AND cap friendly.

Our best bet is to go out and keep firing bullets at developmental guys and hope we hit on one like we did with Butler. My suggestion would be to try and scam Nick Marshall from the Jags. He has the size to be useful in certain situations even as he is learning (6'2), and the athletic potential to become a starting CB.

The fact is that it is very rare that even a top 10 pick can come into the league and be an accomplished CB. It's taken guys like Gilmore (Bills) and Smith (Ratbirds) years to get to be considered good, The kid the Jets took, STILL is sitting on the bench. The really good CB's are developed they don't just pop into the league ready made.

It doesn't mean you can't want a guy. Sure, Lewis would be like the last guy the Saints would trade, but why can't you want a guy?

I know the Patriots aren't getting Haden (although I know they've had inquiries about him for the last couple of years), but if they could pull it off, they'd be golden at CB for the next 5-7 years.

I don't see what's wrong with talking about it, and I also don't see why we have to care about converted college QBs who weren't even that good in college.

We will learn about this secondary when they face some "elite qbs". They struggled against the steelers but that was expected. First game.

Nothing wrong with idle chatter, especially on a bye week, but we should try to have a modicum of common sense thrown in. Lewis would make perfect sense for US. But why would a team make a trade that loses them a good player at a tough position to find and STILL wind up in cap hell. Like I said, a Lewis trade would make ZERO sense for the Saints.

Again, even that kind of unrealistic speculation is fine. I probably was more fired up about more Ninko and Mayo speculation. Sometimes it seems like some of us like to feed on our own. That kind of talk not only makes no sense, it's insulting to our own good players who don't deserve it......at least in my opinion.

1) Completely agree.

2) Two players making significant money, who aren't as good as the other players playing. Maybe I'm just not super-sentimental when it comes to players, but Mayo had a great first 3 or 4 years here, and Ninkovich played ok in spots - but you've got real players, young, cheap, and playing well, better than they are. If you can get something halfway decent for them, you'd be crazy not to move them.

They wouldn't get a 1st for anyone other then Brady? They'd get multiple 1sts for Gronk

No they wouldn't. They'd be lucky to get one. It would be more like Gronk and a seventh for a 2nd and a backup.

The Saints got a 1st and Seattle's best lineman for Jimmy Graham who isn't as good as Gronk is. You got to be delusional if you think the best TE ever just entering his prime is getting a 2nd and a backup.

What you're going to get in-season from a trade, and what you'd get offseason, are two different things.

You can put Gronk up for trade in the Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter and he will fetch more then what the Saints got for Graham

WTF ?

If the Patriots were stupid enough to trade the player who is the best non QB player in the league they would have multiple teams offering 2 #1 picks +.

From the sounds of it, the Saints would probably be stuck paying most of the contract without the benefit of actually having the guy. Price would have to be steep imo.

Why is every good player referred to as a "beast"? Isn't there a better terminology that can be used than that?

If I'm Bill I'd give up a 4th for Lewis. CB is the only hole on the roster now and we need to maximize the championship window.

Bruinator, this is where it's at:

SIGN THE BEAST! ☺

Given the most connected of sources have NFI what the Patriots do, I'm interested in how and why you know this.
