So far he has 22 tackles (15 solo), 3.5 sacks, and 2 FF. Right now he is on pace for about:

Approx 120 tackles (80 solo)

Around 17-18 sacks (!)

And 8 FF.

Now while that pace is very unlikely for him to keep up (namely the sacks) it needs to be noted how well he has been playing so far. I'll go as far as to say he has been arguably the best defensive player in the league so far statistically. He is making all the tackles, getting to the quarterback, and causing turnovers. That is pretty much doing everything a defensive player can do.

You don't see guys like him very often. I don't only see him being a pro bowler by the end of the year. I see him being in contention for defensive player of the year at the end of this year.

He's playing lights out right now. People used to knock his run D, but his run D has been stellar this year.

Actually, he's on pace for 18.5 to 19 sacks.

Great start to the season.

He now seems to be doing everything exceptionally well. Not many players do that.

If he continues to put it all together he has the potential to be as good as any linebacker Belichick has coached.

Jamie Collins is one of the best draft picks of the BB era. This wasn't some kind of "we got lucky, it's the draft" deals. They obviously knew he was a complete steal when they took him. They got a top 10 talent at pick 52.

He might be the best player from that draft. Not just Top 10, Sheldon Richardson is a beast, but an idiot too. Lacy and Bell are great backs. Collins is the best defensive player from that draft. Signing him should be our top priority this off-season. I wouldn't want him to enter his last season without a long-term deal.

Well....

You're underestimating his production; the Patriots haven't played the Colts, Jets and Dolphins yet.

The Colts are #1 in giveaways through three games with 10! The Jets and Dolphins are tied for 3rd with 6.

In regards to his sack production? Because he should probably have some field days, especially against Miami holy cow.

His pass defense numbers look good too, although in the thread where I raised them it was pointed out that there are difficulties with the data.

Jamie Collins should be illegal, shouldn't be possible to move as fast as he does at his size.

They need to extend him while they can still afford him. .

He's going to command huge money in free agency. .. huge, huge money. .

Still crazy to believe that the Patriots turned one pick into Collins, Duron Harmon, Josh Boyce (hey, he helped Malcolm Butler win the SB, if nothing else) and LeGarrette Blount. :D

They need to extend him while they can still afford him.

As has been noted many times, per the current CBA, drafted rookies cannot be extended until after their third season.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprice if him or High has the most sacks this year. So many teams to face where the QB and/or Run game have to be "contained" by the DEs.

While he will command a huge pay day, I think he will be willing to take a discount to remain in NE. He's been in the wrong side of losing at Southern Miss, so I think the chance to still get paid but win will be a major factor for him. Iirc in an interview recently he said "it's all about winning".

I hope so! Players attitudes can change once they have a couple rings on their finger, then they start thinking about their financial future

I would die inside if we lost him. . I think BB will do what it takes to keep him, he's said from day 1 that Collins is a "rare" talent.. you don't let rare talent leave your team
