Stephen A Smith: "Tom Brady Does Not Show Up Against Elite Defenses"

I'm surprised! Not because Stephen A said something stupid, but because he chose the "Brady isn't elite" angle and not the "Brady targets his WHITE receivers more than others" angle. Seems more in Stephen's wheelhouse.

I blame 60 Minutes for all this. Decades ago they pioneered the "point/counterpoint" format for one of their segments. I give them credit for eventually canning it when the topics proved to be too forced. Unfortunately now we are left with an entire media where point counterpoint is the ONLY method of discussing issues. Even the most ludicrous positions get equal time now. The Flat Earth Society are big winners.

Sun rises, Screaming A says something stupid, got it.

Compare TFBs stats in the SB to Aaron Rodgers stats in the NFC championship, the difference is clear.

The cover of Sports Illustrated on Super Bowl Monday (2/2/2015):

Yeah, no one thought that they were elite.

When I read this article after the Super Bowl, I had a smile the whole way through. I never would have thought a story about how great Seattle's defense is would get me to smile, but it did.

I like First Take. Stephen A. is a dumb baby but Skip seems to be pretty consistently accurate in his NFL observations/predictions, aside from his understandable Dallas homerism. Also he will never pass up an opportunity to rip on LeBron, which makes me smile.

You think Mike McCarthy is a great coach? Did you watch that game?

Yes, I watched the game. Yes, McCarthy's a good coach. No, McCarthy's not an anchor around Rodgers' neck. Yes, your argument was a lousy one.

Belichick screwed the pooch on 4th and 2, all those years ago. That must mean he's a ****ty coach, right?

SAS is the new Rob Parker.

I've stopped concerning myself with the opinions of haters. Brady is the best ever. You can cry Manning cause he's lovably goofy looking and doesn't **** on your team in the playoffs. You can cry Rodgers cause he's the next big thing and has mobility to go with his game. It doesn't matter. To me, anyway. Brady is the GOAT. Hands down. It'll take Rodgers getting at least 4 SBs total for there to be a second thought in my mind about it.

But I'm a Pats fan, I'm a little biased

Listen,

I am well aware that BSPN First Take does not count as an actual source of any credibility. I am at work, completely caught up and was using my Slingbox to watch some TV. I rolled past ESPN2 and heard this:

Stephen A Smith seriously just said "Tom Brady has a tendency to not show up against elite defenses". Then proceeded to use the "Seahawks were all injured" excuse as to why Brady shredded them.

I think people forget that Brady gave us the LEAD in both of the Super Bowls we lost.

This is one of those posts that begs for a new rating icon.

Holy ****.jpg

It will reflect positive for the poster but channel our disbelief of the content.

This site is the only reason I ever know anything he or anybody else on espn says about anything.
Right. I have this addon for google chrome that does me a favor and reroutes me to a diff site when I type in ESPN.com instinctively. I haven't been there for about a month now. Which is too bad, cause I like Reiss and Bruschi

When's the last time Brady didn't show up against an elite defense?

Tedy Bruschi says it best...

Tedy Bruschi said:
Rodgers has more ability than Brady does, but Tom is the better quarterback. The word quarterback is used, because there are so many intangibles involved with playing that position that you can't measure. They are intangibles that outweigh quick releases and athletic ability. Let me say this, am I biased? Probably! But I'm going with Brady every time.

I'm surprised! Not because Stephen A said something stupid, but because he chose the "Brady isn't elite" angle and not the "Brady targets his WHITE receivers more than others" angle. Seems more in Stephen's wheelhouse.

Along these lines....the other night, I was watching the NFL* network and Dione Sanders was trying to say that Mike Vick is a #1 NFL (starting) quarterback. He and LaDainian Tomlinson were laughing about the fact he doesn't start. No matter what race one is, you shouldn't get someone's back just because they're the same race. I see and hear a lot of that from black former NFL players.

Hey, Dione & LaDainian....Michael Vick sucks!! That's just the truth.
