Another possibility is an altered prognosis for Dane Fletcher. Admittedly, I don't know why he's on PUP, but he may be destined for IR.

Bostic is coming from a similar situation where everyone on that defense has sucked for the last couple years. They also just switched their coaching staff, and with that is coming an attempted switch to a 3-4 base. LBs like Bostic don't fare well at all in a 3-4. So once again, another team's poor system fit could be our gain. Will be interesting to see.

Lately, this team has had the touch of gold when it's come to mid-season pick-ups. I'm trying to think of the successful acquisitions from PY: Alan Branch, Ayers, Casillas. Any others?

BB has a specific role for the player. It shouldn't surprise us if he performs well.

The upcoming compensatory picks (projected 3, 5, 6, and 6) give them extra flexibility to do things like this. I'm not reading too much into it except that Belichick obviously thinks he's an upgrade over somebody at something.

Very true. We were also desperate for DTs, which provides an extenuating circumstance. Specifically because of that trade, I added the word "lately" to the sentence.

2013 was still pretty recent. It's before the slew of strong trades in 14 and after the Trade for Talib. Does Tim Wright also count or does he not since it was right before the seasons start?

Seems like he might be a tweener? If so, maybe it might be viewed as a replacement for Ninko? Ayers was also used a lot as a DE.

Without someone like this, Collins is always going to be used as our coverage linebacker, which isnt ideal when he is also our best pass rushing backer. Casillas was great last year in that role, and hopefully we get something similar from Bostic.

If the Pats were as high on him as has been eluded to, it gives the team a cheap talent this year, while figuring out if its someone they want longer term, without having to do it through free agency.

Hightower is a better edge pass rusher than Collins and Collins is better on the delayed rush
