Aaron Dobson

I think Bill is playing a confidence building game with that statement but I don't think he would do it for a player he didn't think had the ability to contribute.
I think he did the same thing with Butler after the 1st game as well.

With that said Dobson did play well. He deserved some kudos thrown his way.

He did. I think he has the talent and the time invested into understanding the system to become a decent deep threat.

I had hoped that Boyce would do the same but he just killed himself in the preseason.

Boyce was awful.

Overall, BB does seem more chatty and effusive with his praise of players this year. Could be getting #4 just put him totally it at ease with himself. Maybe hes mellowing?:p

Its no longer a rumor that Dobson is playing well. The Great Gazoo with the hoodie has spoken.

BB is praising Dobson? Too bad, I always kind of liked Dobson.

3/2012 BB on Chad Johnson: ‘I like Chad. I like him as a player. I like him as a person," …"I like his enthusiasm and the fun he has with football, and I like how he competes on the football field. I have a lot of respect for that."
6/2012- Chad Johnson cut.

7/2014 BB on Kendrall Thompkins: "Hard-working kid, hard-working kid," Belichick said Friday, via the Boston Globe. "One of our hardest workers. Really tries hard to do everything right. Very attentive, very coachable."
10/2014 – Kendrall Thompkins cut.

8/25/2015 BB on Reggie Wayne: “Outstanding,” he said. “I think all of that’s on record.”
9/5/2015 - Reggie Wayne cut.

Praise from BB, the kiss of death

.....No, you don't need to send me all of the counter examples of him praising Tom Brady or Gronk, let me have my fun. :D

Grim Reaper BB...

"Aaron has a long ways to go. He's working but he needs to keep working on all aspects of his game."

BB at Dobson's Pats HoF induction ceremony.:p

Wow people have turned on Dobson pretty quickly.

I had nothing vs Revis until he opened up his trap about Deflategate.

I'd like to see Gronk throw him out of the club.

Revis will tap out of that game after being a "game time decision". He won't go.

You heard it here first. Besides, if his groin and hammy really are acting up, he's not going to want any part of Gronk.

It was a lot different covering Gronk when he was 27.

So what you're saying is that he has no balls.

Dobson to me has looked much more comfortable out there running routes...being in the right spot ect. He SEEMS to be turning the corner.

Dobson reminds me a lot of Brandon Lloyd. It's like the moment the ball hits the hands, they go into this weird midair plank. Too much concentration on following the ball that they just lose all control of their bodies. Can make an incredible catch but then struggle to catch the routine passes.

If a player can't run on instincts and trust his abilities he will fumble around with the ball. So focused on not messing up that they don't focus on making the catch. I think Dobson has really put an emphasis on his blocking like he needs to give the coaches a reason to keep him, like he doesn't expect himself to be able to contribute more. He's a bit snakebit, but luck has a direct correlation with confidence when you are under so much scrutiny.

I really want to see the receiver that Belichick drafted show up. The whole never had a drop in college thing isn't true, but he did have good hands and a pretty large catch radius to go along with his speed. That didn't just disappear when he was drafted.

I agree. He didn't do much today to build on last week, which is only slightly disappointing considering I don't know how much of that was due to game plan and how much of it was him. He showed in the BUF game that he can have a decent game. Now I would like to see him possibly string together two of them at least.

The encouraging thing is that LaFell was not there yet either at this point last season. He was still going through his lumps and getting called for pick plays. LOL Dobson still has time. The early part of the season is not about gaudy numbers. It's about him getting more comfortable in his responsibilities, route running and catching. The plays, even when they work, look awkward between he and Brady. It seldom looks natural like when it's to the other top targets. They'll just have to continue to build on the timing. He can get there. He showed it during his rookie season.

Disappointed he was losing snaps to Martin. Not really sure why.

Like everyone else here, I would love to see Dobson become the next Randy Moss. And every time he has a good game or a good catch, I think maybe he is turning the corner and carving out a role for himself. And maybe he will. But I no longer expect it. Full disclosure: I was skeptical of the pick from the start. In the power house Conference USA, Aaron Dobson finished his last season 8th in receptions, 11th in receiving yards, and had only 3 TDs. In the immortal Tommy Shuler and Antavious Wilson, there were two guys on his team who were considerably more productive. Obviously, guys who get paid to figure out which college players will make it in the NFL and know way more than we do saw something they liked. But it is a difficult job and even the best are wrong most of the time (especially, it seems with WRs on the Patriots). At this point, it looks to me like Aaron Dobson is much more likely to wind up on the pile that includes Chad Jackson, Taylor Price, Brandon Tate, Bethel Johnson and Josh Boyce than he is to become a solid NFL contributor. I think that BB traded for Martin because he had concerns about the position. Martin is unlikely to become an all pro, but he runs well, can contribute to STs and can play any of the WR spots. I have no idea what the staff thinks of Dobson, but with LaFell returning to the practice field, my guess is that the next few weeks of practice could be crucial for Aaron Dobson.

Why can't Dobson stay on his feet when he catches the ball?

He played 44 snaps. You wanna see consistency but he doesn't bring that. Looks lost. I can't wait for lafell.

The thing is one player has nothing to do with the other. There is no reason why Dobson could not be on the field after LaFell returns. LaFell is versatile enough to play any receiving position. So with that said, I am still hoping desperately that Dobson can become a viable threat at some point this season, similarly to how LaFell came on after a slow start last season. I think it's possible, but it's obviously up to the young kid to put it all together. I just don't get why it's been so long in the making. I just don't know if it's completely the injury that took him out of his game.

The fact that Bill felt Dobson was one of the best 11 options for 144 snaps the past two weeks belies your point. Even more so given their offensive efficiency.

I like the guy but he doesn't play like he's 6'3. I don't know if he 's having trouble running the routes. When was the last time we had a young stud at wr?

Why can't Dobson stay on his feet when he catches the ball?
Because he catches a football the way I'd catch a baby if someone threw one at me. Uses his whole body as a landing pad for the ball because he has no confidence in his hands.
