Keshawn Martin, Another Under the Radar Addition for the Patriots

Steve Balestrieri

The Patriots traded for Texans KR Keshawn Martin this week. The 4th year pro will provide depth in the return game and played in a similar offensive system

So Martin and their 6th for our 5th. Could turn out to be only a few spots, hopefully Martin can contribute.

Specialty players can come and go...keeping as many of your core players as you can afford is key...

Impressive debut vs Jags. Maybe something more than just a special teamer / WR depth? I liked his instincts, hands, adjustments, and obvious knowledge of the playbook. Dreads too. I was like, who the heck is this guy? Did someone get a weave?

And unfortunately, it is another guy whose contract will be up after the season.

We lost both Casillas and Ayers.

FWIW, we lost them in the sense that we replaced them with better players. Mayo's having trouble getting snaps in this front 7, so I think we can comfortably say Casillas wouldn't, and I see Sheard as an upgrade over Ayers.

And they'll count in our compensatory picks calculation... probably for more than we spent to acquire them.

I see Martin and Dobson competing for a spot. Someone will be in trouble when LaFell returns. Martin has some ST value and after a nice game last week Dobson did not help himself today.

For some strange reason, I remember him in college for one play. When we first got Brian Hoyer, I was looking at tapes of him and there was this game vs Michigan where Martin threw a nice spiral across the field back to Hoyer. Even though he came into the league in 2o12, his time at Michigan State overlapped with Hoyer.

Did more than Boyce ever did, so it's an upgrade. Dobson can't help himself but I hope they keep throwing the ball in his direction, he needs reps.

Dobson looked excellent at Buffalo. I'm not worried how he looked in today's scrimmage. The depth at our skill positions is really good right now. Kudos to BB and Cesario.

Depth is great at every position but corner, especially if one includes Practice Team players, and the four players who will be able to come back from the PUP and IR lists.

I was a little upset how he (Dobson) dropped the long PI play. At first I thought he was interfered with at the point of catch, but he fought through the initial PI and basically dropped the ball when he made a loose catch and hit the ground. Just one play, but generally I agree, not his best night.

And yes, depth looks good.

Sucks that Revis wouldn't break bread with BB. We'd be the clear favorites with him. Not sure we can get a cb in a trade like we did for Talib. I'm hoping for Sean Smith this off-season.

Well, he's suspended for the first 3 games, so he wouldn't have done you much good to this point anyway.

And Revis already missed one game, is complaining in the media how hurt he is. It could be true. It could also be his excuse for losing his edge. Remember how he pulled up with a "hammy" when Moss destroyed him for a TD?

In other words, Revis' reputation would be enough with most teams, but against good teams, they'd see him on tape and throw at him.

I don't think he's the same guy. I think that's why he got that low-ball offer. Trust me, I was pissed off about it too at the time, but watching him play...I can see that he's lost a step. Then again, maybe he's just hurt. Who knows?

Why cut either of those 2 when Hooman is just begging to be cut and free up a million in cap space

I've mentally prepped my fiance, Hooman is as good as gone! :)

Oh come on. Revis was a difference maker last year. Proof is in the pudding. I wasn't too clear on Smith. I'd like to get him as a free agent in March 2016. Doubt KC trades him with a chance to make the playoffs.

He was a difference maker on reputation, mostly. He had some good moments, but he also got torched by Jordy Nelson and Doug flippin Baldwin on crossing routes, which showed me he can't turn his hips as fast anymore. Yeah, it helped that teams barely threw to his side. Helped a lot.

Teams will eventually pick up on it. They see Revis and say "I'm not throwing there". K. Let's see what the Patriots do...assuming he's playing in that one.
