By setting a new record with 423 consecutive extra points, Gostowski is likely to hold this record forever, now that the ball is kicked 15 yards further back.

Beyond Gostowski, though, this is a tribute to the constant excellence of the Patriots coaching and special teams. This could have been broken with a block or bad snap at any point.

It's a great career/team achievement for Gostkowski. I'm glad that he is in the record books for something besides 2007. :)

For sure, if the extra point rule this season sticks, I don't see anyone breaking his record in the future. Right now as it is there's about a 5% chance of a miss for extra point kicks for an average kicker. Luckily Gostkowski has been one of the league's best for a while now.

You know, come colder weather in December, January, having Gost kicking PATS N FGs is like money in the bank!

It does seem like that record should stand… That's pretty cool.

Well, let's see how long this streak lasts. :)

But yes, his record will probably be one of the "unbreakable" ones, and some day people will talk about the longest streak in the 15-yard-line era, or however they phrase it.

That said, I believe he's the holder of the longest streak in that era as well. Has any other team kicked as many PATs this season as the Pats? :)

Remember when all those people were questioning what BB was doing in letting Vinatieri go and drafting a kicker? Neither do I :D.

The most tension I had all game was right before the extra point he had to tie it. I'm not even kidding.

Way to Gostkowski!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heck of a kicker! I'm glad we have him.:D

The most reliable kicker in the NFL and he's been that way for a while. Makes 40-50 yarders look routine. Totally fine that we made him (I believe) the highest paid kicker in the league...because he is the best.

By way of contrast, the kickers in the Houston/TB game combined to go 3-7 on FGs (at least one of which was however very long) and -- get this -- 1-3 on XPs.

And I'm pretty sure weather wasn't an issue ...

Move over DiMaggio! With PAT's moved back to the 15yd line, dropping expected success to about 92% from the previous 99%, is Gost's 423 (and counting) PAT conversion streak now an illustrious sports record that might (*will*) never be broken?

Odds of 423 at 99.5% is nearly impossible to comprehend. So, 423 in a row at 92% is about as likely as, well... as nothing imaginable I guess.

Only chance is if anyone is somewhat close behind him right now, and he get's pretty damn lucky in the next dozen games or so.

I suggested something similar in another thread.

The result will be that there is a new category, for streak of consecutive PATs at the new distance -- and while I haven't looked it up, I'm pretty sure Gostkowski is the record holder for that too. :)

Not so sure NFL would ever make the distinction. NHL never did with OT losses (to the chagrin of goalies) for example. Maybe if the record were high profile enough, perhaps. So I'd say the NFL puts no such asterisk on the streak and therefore we won't see it fall. Also like you say, he already hold the 2yd record, so technically there is NO way the streak can be broken already, so Gost wins either way.

You gotta love how BB has stockpiled surplus middle round draft picks in the years he's needed to secure a "special" special teamer. Always playing chess

PS....why was Gost short leggin some kickoffs today...Practice for the 10 sprinters on kickoffs???
