San Diego Tribune: Pats win because they are SMARTER than the rest of the NFL

If you read any of the comments to the article most of the SD fans understood the "they are just better" gist the author intended to convey and they did not like it.
Reading the comments just now it looks like there has been an influx of Pats fans. Effect of this post? Good job!

IMHO, this comment is the winner

Of course they're the best coached and smartest. Winners choose last in the draft, so their sustained winning (especially if it's by alleged cheating), the team should be terrible by now.

After 12 consecutive years of picking almost last, in draft after draft, they field a good to great team every year (since 2004 draft, they've picked 32,32,21,24,10, no pick, 27, 17,25, no pick, 29, 32). 32 is last pick.

Yet THIS year's team, built on 12 years of having the average worst draft position every year in the NFL, is a contender.

Did they somehow magically cheat in the draft too? Tricked the other teams into choosing poorly or tricked them into not picking up good free agents?

I did read the line after it. His overall point is that opponents would be better off not obsessing about the cheating that the Patriots do, rather, they should deal with the Pats superior intelligence and skills. He still accepts the notion that the Pats cheat.
The way I read it, I don't think he does accept that notion, but that's just my interpretation.

not only we are smarter, but we are tougher mentally. mental toughness of this team is awesome.

And they ARE just better. Good grief, watching some of these other football games, it becomes really obvious.
Exactly. At this point, I'm not sure there's another legitimately great coach in the entire league.

Another article stating the the Pats are just a good team, from the N.Y. Post (not written by Bart Hubbuch)

We know you hate the Patriots, and that’s perfectly OK.

But, if you’re being honest, it’s time you respect them for their remarkable run of sustained success — a 15-year run that stands as perhaps the longest, greatest stretch in NFL history.

...“Personally, I’ve always respected them for the level of football in which they play and how they execute,’’ Jets right guard Willie Colon told The Post. “One thing I respect about them is they stay in their lane. They don’t worry about what the outside world says about them or what’s going on. They show up, win and go home. That’s extremely commendable.

My level of respect for Colon has now gone from Unknown to Much Higher.

The headline could also just as well have read Pats Win Because They Are Brady-er Than the Rest
of the League.

great great article

Exactly. At this point, I'm not sure there's another legitimately great coach in the entire league.
Interesting point… Slim pickings for sure. Who is the second best coach in the league? Top five?

I think I'd vote for Bruce Arians as #2.

Here's the full quote. "Are the Patriots cheaters? “Spygate” says yes. For their rivals’ sanity, perhaps it’s better to steer clear of the better explanation for the success. They really are smarter."

This writer deserves credit for stating what should be obvious to every NFL fan.

It's such a shame that Spygate was not properly explained as a minor rules violation and not cheating. Kraft tried to take the high road and move on when they really needed to defend themselves. They could have admitted fault while putting Spygate in its proper perspective. A lot of people would not have listened, but they needed to get the story out there. Most casual Pats fans, not those who read Patsfans, don't know the full story of Cameraplacementgate.

Along with "Do your job", Belichick and the team have been a little more open and talkative and have given some insight into what makes them so good. It's really very interesting. Just last week Brady was talking about how when he turns is back to the field, he knows where the defenders are going to be and is rarely surprised. He explained it's because he has studied opposing individual player's tendencies by watching many hours of game film. How many QBs in the league study film to such detail? Not many. Maybe only one.

This offseason should have been full of artlicles like this one. Unfortunately, Goodell robbed us of that with his ignorant, uneducated, fabricated, deceptive, completely stupid accusations of cheating and his illegal punishments.

The Pats are just going to have to outcoach, oustmart, outprepare, outgameplan everyone all over again and keep on winning. Some day, maybe not until Brady and Belichick are long retired, football fans will appreciate this dynasty.

As many football fans that appreciate this dynasty, there will be many, many more that don't and won't. There are a lot of us Pats fans, and a lot of people who just love the sport and its history, but there are vastly more people that hate the Pats and want their run to become a thing of the past.

I remember the Cowboys dynasty of the '90s and hating them. I remember the relief I felt in that one playoff game where the Arizona Cardinals, led by Jake Plummer, went into Dallas and beat them. I felt that to be the end of their run, and it was. The Patriots are a bit of a different animal, because there have been many occasions where detractors have felt that they finally saw our dynasty end, only to see that, nope, it's still going strong.

It's much easier to dismiss the accomplishments of this team rather than acknowledge that, and the shortcomings of other fans' teams. It's easier to taunt our fanbase as being arrogant and defensive and overly sensitive and obnoxious and all that (and there will be a ring of truth to that, which applies to all fanbases really), than to admit that we have a point when we do call detractors on their BS.

The reality is yes, we would rather the rest of the world admire our favorite team than what they do now, but we shouldn't get caught up on that. What matters most is that we, as Pats fans, love this team, win, lose, or draw, and we're blessed to live in these times where they give so much back for us to cheer for. It hasn't always been this good, and for all we know it may never be this good again. Let's enjoy it, and to everyone else stuck drinking the haterade, it's their loss, not ours.
