Brady to play another 10 years?

The pendulum swings and over corrects. Ironic how many right here in this forum had written Brady off as DONE last September. And others wished to see how JAG would do with Brady out for 4 games.
We'd be 0-2 today with anyone else at QB, Aaron Rogers possibly excepted.

Here's an unsettling thought for anyone waiting for the New England Patriots’ reign to end: What if Tom Brady’s best football is ahead of him?

His numbers over his last 16 games (including playoffs) — 66.8% passing for 4,701 yards and 44 touchdowns with 11 interceptions and a 104.4 passer rating — stack up well against any of his 15 seasons as a starter, save perhaps his record-breaking 2007 campaign.

Brady, 38, is past his physical peak. But he was never winning with athletic ability anyway. He has avoided major injuries since blowing out a knee seven years ago. He plays in an offense that emphasizes a short passing game, limiting wear and tear on his arm. And his knowledge of how to read and manipulate defenses only increases with time.

[.....]

“The 10% physically (Brady) was better back then, he’s 35% better mentally,” former NFL quarterback Jeff Christensen said. “So he’s a better all-around player today. He’s just brilliant.”

Christensen has taught Brady’s mechanics to young players — including Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo — for more than a decade. It starts with concise footwork, which gives Brady an extra split-second to see the play develop. Brady rarely misses a checkdown, and the Patriots control the middle of the field with players he can throw into position to run after the catch.

I'll take one game of a time. Too many things can effect a career. I'll enjoy what we have for as long as I can.

I've always privately wondered if the season of rehab with the knee, gave his elbow and shoulder a mid career rest. The QB position is not what it was years ago, and Brady takes amazing, if not fanatical care of himself.

I've wondered that, myself. After all: Tommy John ~ the Tommy John ~ pitched until he was 46.

All y'all who're dancing on Andrew Luck's Grave have lost your freaking minds.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that you were among the Vast Legion of Fools bemoaning the alleged passing, one Year ago this very week, of none other than Tom Brady, himself.

Wonder how many people can name the 6 QB's selected ahead of Brady ... other than Tom of course.

Brady got selected ahead of himself??

Oh, those tricky Patriots!!

Not I, says the guy who just joined the forum this year. :D

Honestly though, I was not in that club. That does not make me smarter than anyone who was it just means I was/am willing to ride out a rough season with TB.

The secret to his longevity? Answered in a great new [to me] version of this oldie from last season. sing along

Great article. Thanks for sharing that.

Well...

I didn't write Brady off, but I did write the team off, hoping they would trade Brady to a team with an above average D, an offensive coordinator with some sense and an O-line that can block. Boy, was I wrong. Brady is fine where he is, I have a love/hate relationship with McDaniels, but he continues to surprise me in the end. The secondary still needs work though.

I understand the point but how can you know???? How can you know when Brady is finished?? Why would you try to guess that? He can and has delivered SB championships to this city/state/NE. JG has not played one complete regular season game. You do not nor will not know what he can do until he has done it.

Don't get me wrong, I like JG. He is probably the best backup we have had although I liked Cassel just as much in the past.

I would rather suffer through a few rough seasons with Brady in decline (because he has earned it) then get rid of Brady too early and allow an unknown commodity take the reigns.

I agree with your point. If we do end up losing Jim G and Brady winds up declining (hurts to even think about that) McDaniels could always go back to Tebow. All he does is win. :)

Really, the fork in the road is after 2016; since you need to trade these guys while under contract. It's all up to Jimmy G. BB would move on from TB in a split second if he thought JG could give him top 10 production. That's the cold genius of him.

I might get downvoted to hell for this, but Brady losing the appeal and serving a 4 game suspension next season would be a blessing in disguise for the franchise in the long run. They'll really see what they have in JG, and if he's legit, BB trades TB for a kings ransom after 2016.

Anyone who doesn't think the odds are against TB is ignoring the data and cherry picking the outliers. And the new rules don't change much - just lok at Brees. I don't wanna see the TFB ride end either, but time waits for no man.
