This book should be pretty good I think. This excerpt is pretty interesting, especially this part:

Brady Sr. hears a lot about his Tom’s relationship with Belichick. He agrees with Tom’s assessment. “Tommy has said to me different times, Belichick has a perfect soldier with me,” Brady Sr. said. “Tommy is the perfect foil for Belichick. When Randy Moss comes in and sees Tommy getting chewed out and not coming back at it and accepting it, the other 52 guys fall in line. That is absolutely the ideal military regimen he inherited from his father at Navy. That’s exactly what he wants. If you have somebody who doesn’t fall in line, like a Wes Welker, you are out the door. Tommy is absolutely the perfect quarterback for Bill Belichick because he understands what Belichick is doing and he has enough pride to know that no matter what Belichick might say to diminish his efforts, it’s not going to impact who he is and what he knows he can do.”

Guess we know why Wes is gone. Or partly why.

Same for why Reggie didn't stick around. I also always wondered about what really happened with Gray.

In any event, it's funny how so many posters want the Pats to trade for this or that WR, TE, DB, etc. But they have no clue what BB is really looking for.

And this works because that yelling, that criticism, is never personal. I learned early on, from my father, a former Navy man, about how to take criticism as well as how to give it. It served me well through my life, both in the Navy, and as an actor for many years afterward. You also learn to ignore the personal attacks, because all those do is reflect on the shallowness and pettiness of the one doing the attacking. Some say it's having a thick skin that lets folks take pointed criticism, but that's not true. It's the ability to discriminate the constructive stuff, the real coaching and such, from what doesn't mean squat. Once you can do that, it opens up all sorts of doors for you.

I, too, look forward to this book.

I've been reading some excerpts on this as well was thinking of buying the book.
Rex is so obnoxious, he puts to much weight into his meaningless garble. I hope the Bills go 1-15...

Former Jets coach Rex Ryan explains in the new book "Brady vs. Manning" how he tried to get in Tom Brady's head prior to the 2010 divisional playoff game.

The Jets were facing the Colts during the AFC wild-card game, but Brady wasn't watching. Instead, he told a local radio station that he skipped part of the game to watch the Broadway play “Lombardi.”

After the Jets beat the Colts, their next opponent was New England, and Rex Ryan decided to drop a line about Brady attending a Broadway show.

“Peyton Manning would have been watching our game,” Ryan said at the time.

He admitted in the book that he did this to purposely try and get into Brady's head

Once again we find Rex and his crew playing checkers, while Belichick and Brady are playing 3D chess.

I don't think Welker is a good example. He was here 6 years and signed a contract midway, not exactly shipping him out. When he did leave he was 32 and broke down.

Kind of selective memory there. Welker was offered a fine multi year, [2-3?] contract after getting the lucrative franchise tag. fortunately, BB realizes lots of different personalities can make it. Blount is no choir boy. He sure didn't want to let go WWW until he had a replacement, and i doubt Amendola would have been, though he's versatile.

Here's a nice piece on how Peyton wanted he giants D to stop TB from breaking his TD record in 2007....

He called his younger brother and asked him to relay a message to the Giants’ defensive leaders: If the Patriots were going to get into the end zone, he sure would appreciate if it happened on the ground. No touchdown passes, please.

I'm sure Spagnuolo was more than willing to oblige Peyton. After all, what's more important, winning a football game or preserving Manning's records?

It's an OK book, it's a nice compendium of stories but there's not a lot in there we haven't already heard. It's a good addition to my group of Patriots books but not a game changer in any way. On the upside, without doing a word count, it seemed like it was about 2/3 Brady, 1/3 Manning. Of course Brady has a more compelling story.

I remember seeing a counselor from Michigan talking about Brady in The Brady 6 and he made that same point about Brady. He respects authority.

I, too, look forward to this book.

The book is out, I purchased the kindle version a few days ago. Like an above poster said, it is just OK. I feel like there's nothing new really covered here and I'm not terribly interested in reading about Peyton Manning's life. I'm really skimming through a lot of it because I already know it, or I just don't care, OR the author is pissing me off (as he does re: Spygate….ie. If it wasn't giving BB an advantage, why do it, etc. etc.) I did laugh at the chapter about training camp pranks, although again, it wasn't exactly new stuff.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like you all saved me $12. Glad I came here to check before buying.
