Holy Moly, What's Wrong With Wendell?

The signs were there last week that this was something more than the flu. Since I'd already come to that conclusion, I'm actually encouraged that he isn't in hiding.
Whatever it is, I get the impression that he is mostly past it. Hope we see him back after the break.

You have to wonder if it's something like Solder had last year.. Hope not.
That was my immediate reaction. I'm negative though. I always expect the freaking worst.

Yes, there are certainly plenty of hints in the article that this is a shorter term deal, and that he expects to be back sooner rather than later.

I forgot about the surgery. I suspect infection, then.

That does seem plausible, but would they let him in the locker room in that case? Certainly not if it was a staff infection like MRSA. Maybe there are other post surgery non contagious infections, I'm not a medical type so I don't know. Another poster said he had been in the locker room.

Your mom gave him the clap

I heard injury - torso.
Imagine Belichick having to drive him over to the doctors. "So what seems to be the problem?" "Ryan is just taking it day to day, working hard every day to get back on the field." "Okay....not sure what we can do there..."

You might think so but weren't both Brady and Gronk around the facility at the times they were dealing with post-op staph?

Well, the good thing is that they didn't put him on IR, so I'd expect to see him sooner than later.

Beats me. Anybody know this?

An argument against the infection speculation is that when Brady and Gronk had theirs it was reported as "knee" and "arm". You'd expect Wendell would be "shoulder" and not "personal medical condition". So, I changed my mind; it's not infection - at least, not the shoulder.

We'll see.

I have no expectations of seeing him anytime soon. The team has the luxury of waiting a few weeks before making a decision regarding IR.

"‘€œI know it’€™s vague. Illness is a good way to describe it,” Wendell told reporters. “I wasn’€™t able to do my job. I needed some time to get healthy. Each day, I’€™m just following the doctor and trainer’€™s instructions,” he said. “As soon as they think I’€™m ready to go, I’€™ll be out there.”

That doesn't sound like a cancer-type thing - sounds something more short-term. If it was related to his surgery he would say so. If it was significantly infectious he wouldn't be around locker room.

So could be a MRSA-type local infection (but then I think he might just have come out and said that), or some sort of "guy thing" like prostatitis. Stuff like a kidney stone, gallstone or bleeding stomach ulcer is also possible.

To be honest, I can only speculate/comment about the players that are available to play.......,

I suspect he might have andrewisplayingbetterrightnowitis.

I'm sure that a guy as smart as Wendell knows that it is hard to make the club from the tub, I would expect that he is chomping at the bit to be back with all of these rookies looking so good.
