9/25: NFL STILL Digging The Hole Deeper Against Brady

Maybe the NFL is going to suspend Brady for a different, absurd reason this season. Upsetting all those fans in Buffalo last week or not doing an on-field interview after the season opener, perhaps.

Makes sense. The NFL quote is "there is no doubt Brady will serve a four game suspension this season." It specifically avoids defining what the suspension is for. The NFL can issue a suspension for something else if it chooses.

The only problem is if it does go back to Judge Berman for any reason, then the NFL can claim the "appearance of impropriety" which is the standard for judicial conduct. This is where a layperson may question the ethics of those involved... Kraft would have been smart to avoid all contact until after the final appeals are decided. Considering how the NFL has acted in this case, it's not worth even the slightest action that might be questionable...

No they can't. Bumping into someone at a party after the case is over is not impropriety. The fact that John Mara was at the same party means there is no impropriety. In fact, Kessler and Brady, not the NFL would have a case. For this case, Brady sued Kraft along with all the other owners. Kraft is a representative of the NFL as far as the court is concerned.

My source told me the nfl wants deflate gate in the headlines because they don't wants fans focusing on the frontline story about head injuries. This timely leak is nothing more than a smoke screen.

"I watch this beautiful game for the players, not the league who has unreasonable control over these players. I support the New England Patriots, not the league who has tried shamelessly with effort and malicious intent to continue to undermine and be resentful of the Patriots' success."
- Me, Circa just now.

forget about the 'this season' part.... I'm more curious to know how that goddamn 'source' is so sure 'beyond doubt' that the suspension will be upheld after all?

No doubt?

LOL.... unless that source is the 2nd circuit judge himself...

This "source" doesn't make sense. NFL isn't seeking expedited review of Brady case. Appeal won't be heard till 2016.

My take on this report is that the *NFL is simply keeping the pumped primed, milking the cow for the last few drops of milk and turning over slots hoping one is a quarter. Look they had ESPN do the hit piece right after the Berman ruling and now this BIG UNNAMED SOURCE with a fairy tale prediction.

We should look for this to continue.

NFL "source" should consult 2nd Circuit Local Rule 31.2 before making misinformed statetments about appeal timing 1.usa.gov/1isEWzW

Daniel Wallach @WALLACHLEGAL
Even if NFL files brief quickly, NFLPA would still get up to 91 days to file their answer brief, per Local Rule 31.2 1.usa.gov/1isEWzW

Daniel Wallach @WALLACHLEGAL
I just spoke with the 2nd Circ. case manager for NFL vs Brady, and came away even more convinced that a ruling this year is an impossibility

Daniel Wallach @WALLACHLEGAL
If NFL asks for expedited appeal by 10/1 (the deadline for doing so), CA2 would establish a briefing schedule of 35 days + 35 days + 14 days

Honestly, the NFL is just hurting themselves with this idiocy at this point. When this doesn't happen, who looks stupid and even less credible (if possible). Not us.

i have a bad feeling they're going to make up some bs.

Craig: Hello Mr. Off:)
Jack: Hello Craig, this is my friend Jerk:D
Craig: Hello Jerk:)
Jerk: Hello Craig, guess what I heardo_O
Craig: That the Colts will win the Super Bowl?
Jack: True, but something else;)
Craig: I don't know, I'm just a columnist. Don't tax my investigation skills:confused:
Jerk: OK, calm down. I heard Brady will serve his suspension this season!
Craig: really??? Do you have a source?
Jerk: Of course I do!
Craig: Can I speak to him?o_O

Craig: Wow, thanks for the scoop!:D
Jack and Jerk: Your welcome <snicker>

They could trump up suspicions/accusations for something and then there will be more media firestorm from baseless speculation and it will be taken as fact. Maybe I'm being a bit of a conspiracy theorist but anything is possible with these guys.

Looks like the "source" was immediately put in his place by Daniel Wallach.

Another L for "NFL sources."

I've compared Goodell to Captain Queeg but this is also like the obsessed police inspector in Les Miserables.

I hear that. This entire thing has made me so bitter about the NFL. Since the 2014 AFCCG I've grown to hate goodell, all the ex-jests douchebags working for The NFL, ex-players, other team's coaches, other team's players, other team's fans, and the media

The only things left in the NFL that I still love are The Patriots and the game that's played on the field

Media's milking the story for all it's worth. You don't keep a story in the headlines for eight months by sticking to the facts.

I'm not sure what to think of CBS picking up the story, but the 60 minutes segment certainly won't be on concussion issues with them still focused on Brady. It's even pretty much confirmed to be pro-Goodell. They might as well replay the Mike and Mike interview.

They'll probably suspend Brady for wearing his socks too high or having the grass too long.

Something to consider is I think the league is in fact allowed to launch a "new" investigation and suspend him again.

Nope, that's why Berman's conclusion re: lack of notice is so important. Any subsequent investigation will fail for the same reason. NFL can't fix lack of notice.

BTW, it shows how friggin two faced Boomer is. He goes on Boston radio and kisses the Pats' arses. But in this clip, he said:

“What this person doesn’t realize,” WFAN host Boomer Esiason responded, “(is) that they all felt the same way prior to Judge Berman’s ruling. But what they didn’t know is that Judge Berman was going out to The Hamptons to hang out with (Patriots owner) Bob Kraft.

(My note, what people especially the haters refuse to acknowledge that John Mara was at the same party and a chance encounter at a party AFTER the ruling doesn't mean anything)

"They didn't count on the judge legislating from the bench."

If I remember correctly when he went on Toucher and Rich, he agreed with the Berman verdict and the league overreached.
Disappointed in boomer. He is probably catering to his local audiences but that was unnecessary .

Javert had something resembling principles.

Still, to a first approximation you have a point.

Thats my concern as well.

Now that we've seen behind the curtain, can you really put it past them to manufacture something?
