Deflategate karma continues.....ESPN is losing subscribers, costing them a quarter billion dollars

You also probably didn't have a $100k tuition loan. Trust me, no reason to envy kids these days.
Actually $125K when I got out of grad school 30 years ago... Loan rate was tied to the TBill plus 3.5% with no deferred interest. During Carter's Presidency, TBill (90 day) was 17% so interest was 20.5%...........No complaints, everybody should live on Ramen noodle s for a few years...........

WOW!!! Hopefully you're done with that.

I think I have some lasting heart damage from all the Ramen noodles I ate while I was in college.

I encourage all to only watch BSPN if its because that's your only option to watch the Patriots. Was in Toronto on business and on Monday night I watched the game on some French network with the volume down just because I refuse to support the lying mostly Long Island staffed network. They are all fans of the NYJFL and the slander the team I support.

Also, do not click on BSPN or BSPN Boston. It WILL and IS making a difference.

WOW!!! Hopefully you're done with that.
yeah, and worst was they took away the interest deduction for student loans one year after I graduated......

Well said PatriotsReign! I contributed a small amount to fiber optic wavelength multiplexing technology (which is important to high speed internet) back in the 80's, but now as a physics professor I understand plenty of the tech principles but I'm a complete dummy when it comes to some of the stuff YOUGOTMOSSED is talking about. I didn't grow up with an IPAD under my pillow like many of the youngsters. Bobbutts, my experience in trying to watch sports on cable is similar to yours, streams being interrupted, viruses, etc.

Along those line, YOUGOTMOSSED or one of you other brilliant tech savvy youngsters: Could you give me a clear simple explanation of how to watch Patriots games on the internet for a non-local? Currently the best I can do is watch one of those horrendous blurry pirated live streams (with all of the problems that bobbutts pointed out) and then watch the game next day on NFL Gamepass. I don't mind paying some money to accomplish this (although I would rather not pay a king's random to the evil empire that tried to destroy TB), but it is difficult for me to figure out who is legit and who is not. Many of these internet sites want me to download some type of special viewer, and that makes me nervous, I don't want to have my computer taken over by Chinese hackers. Can one of you youngsters give an "old timer" some help? :D

Good point zyd! Many of us old-timers know about technology (like you, not me) but our awareness of the various avenues of communication can't compete with the young 'uns!

I still don't own an ipad or fascimile! I finally switched to a smart-phone when my company gave me one...I had a flip phone until 2012....now I have an i-phone4!! :p

Phooey, I had to write a letter to Ian asking him to write this post under my Interwebs handle.

(Thanks Ian)

[You're welcome, Danger Zone]

How about making ESPN watchable as opposed to having all these idiots argue with each other.

Especially the Steven A Smith vs Skip Bayless **** .... pompous aszhole vs ignorant aszhole.

That show is just ridiculous.

ESPN is hurting the Disney stock.

In a few years, ESPN will likely be a channel that cable-ditching consumers can buy directly as a streaming-only option, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger told CNBC Monday.

“If we end up seeing more erosion in the so-called multichannel bundle (cable or satellite TV packages), quality will win out and popularity will win out,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” adding the ESPN-only option will not happen in the next five years.

Off-topic, but I was a EE working on WDM technology fiber optics And Internet software in the 90s and early 2000's. That technology was really rocking at that time. Got A couple patents on ethernet over fiber networks Loved hi Tech!

You are wise to be wary

That is really, really, interesting that you worked in WDM technology!

As I think I have posted during the hated "Deflategate days", I am a physics professor (with an optical science speciality), and my first job after graduation was in industry developing fiber optic sensors and components back in the early 80's. As with most in academia, I have plenty of publications, but my one and only (and very, very treasured) patent that was actually awarded was for an fiber optic evanescent wave coupler that functioned (without breaking up the fibers) as a wavelength dependent multiplexer/demultiplexer.

It sounds like you were a wonderful R&D manager (having to work with outsourcing, etc.), and it sounds like you have really made a difference, good for you. After some years in industry (and DoD contract research) I eventually figured out that I am better in academia, I love teaching and I enjoy supervising graduate students and post-docs, and there is still plenty of selling in academia, which I enjoy. I wouldn't have made a very good industrial R&D manager (as you were), I am happiest supervising no more than about 10 people, preferably grad students or post-docs. Of course, that means I am much poorer financially, but still happy. :D

Enjoyed reading the posts by you PhD's on the ideal gas law. I'm happy to say that within minutes of hearing about the Deflated footballs I said and posted here PV=nRT only I forgot to adjust for absolute pressure
