OT: R.I.P. Yogi Berra

Very sad to see this news this morning. Seemed like a great guy and a baseball gem. 69 years to the day after his mlb debut, as well.

Must be tough on Tommy Lasorda... I think it was his birthday a day or two ago.

The discussion wouldn't be complete without some Yogi-isms:

"A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore."

"You can observe a lot by watching."

"If the world were perfect, it wouldn't be."

"If you can't imitate him, don't copy him."

"Ninety percent of the game is half mental."

I quoted Yogi Berra when I was giving my "speech" when I retired from the Navy.

The one that goes something like "I regret the circumstances that have made this day necessary".

My commanding officer was quite pleased that I had used one of Yogi's quotes.

The man will be missed, but his quotes live live forever.

Great philosopher, great ball player, 10 World Series wins more than any other player. 18 time all star and 3 time MVP.

''When you come to a fork in the road, take it" Yogi B...RIP

Dude fought in World War II.

"I usually take a two hour nap from 1 to 4"

Many of Yogi's famous quotes (several excellent examples included in this thread) were malapropisms. My favorite is not:

"In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is."

RIP Yogi. I don't think the baseball heroes of today will ever measure up to the ones I grew up with.

"I never said most of the things I said."

"The future ain’t what it used to be."

"You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I’m not hungry enough to eat six."

One of the fun things about living in NYC was going to Yankee Stadium and seeing Yogi hanging out around the batting cage before the game from time to time.
RIP. He was an original.

He was one of the few great players that were able to transcend a rivalry.

RIP Yogi.

Yogi was larger than life. He made a great many quotable quotes, but is credited with even more.

A well known physicist, whose book I recently read, attributed to Yogi a quote that was made by the Nobel Prize winner and quantum mechanics founder Niels Bohr.

"I'm not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did."

Great player, great man. I swear didn't even know he was still alive. Way to go Yogi.

It's deja vu all over again.

If you ask me a question I don't know, I'm not going to answer.

Slump? I ain't in no slump... I just ain't hitting.

We're lost, but we're making good time.

If I didn't wake up I'd still be sleeping.

It gets later early out there.
