OT: R.I.P. Yogi Berra

My favorite player was Lou Gehrig (despite being a Red Sox fan). Yogi was not far behind.

My grandfather tried to turn me into a Yankees Fan(did not work) and in the 50's he used to take me to Yankee Stadium.. always remember those teams, when the Red Sox were more obscure. Yogi was always a favorite..

"There are some people who, if they don't already know, you can't tell 'em."

Fitting. One of the Boys of Summer passed away on the last day of Summer.

"No one ever goes there; it's too crowded."

One of the great philosophers of our time, R.I.P. Yogi.

The discussion wouldn't be complete without some Yogi-isms:

"A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore."

"You can observe a lot by watching."

"If the world were perfect, it wouldn't be."

"If you can't imitate him, don't copy him."

"Ninety percent of the game is half mental."

One of the great philosophers of our time, R.I.P. Yogi.
As sensi Yogi would say
'If you see a fork in the road take it'
'

One of a kind. There won't be another Yogi, ever. R.I.P. Mr. Berra.

Well, damn. Loved his "worldly philosophy".

Now I'll never get to see what I thought would be the greatest sports interview ever: Yogi Bera and Bill Belichick taking questions. Woulda been epic, no?

RIP Yogi.

Some more Yogi truism:

“Cut my pie into four pieces, I don’t think I could eat eight.”

“I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.”

“Even Napoleon had his Watergate.”

“If the fans don’t wanna come out to the ballpark, no one can stop ‘em. ”

I remember catching an old interview with Yogi and Joe Garagiola on ESPN Classic (one of the 27 networks I no longer watch). Joe was recounting how Yogi was always early for everything, so one morning Joe decides to get up extra early and is waiting for Yogi in the lobby of their hotel before they go to breakfast. Yogi comes down and says: "You're late!". Joe is befuddled. "Yogi, it's not even 6:00 in the morning!". Yogi retorted: "This is the earliest you've ever been late!"

Saw him play against the Sox at Fenway in the early 60's - one wonderful player and person. RIP Yogi, you were truly one of a kind.
