ESPN Laying Off 200-300 Employees

200-300 is a pretty decent size number. If they are looking to trim $350m over the next two years look for some notable names to go.

Some of this stuff is funny. But Karma is a b!tch I only hope it falls on the deserving. Unfortunately Rob is right, most of the mediots and management people will save their own asses, even at the expense of the product. That is what big media teaches their people. "It's all about me".

Right now my biggest prayer is that they screw some mid-level management type who just happens to know all about the NFL/ESPN directives and has all the emails to document it.

Just all at once, lets say, Fox Sports comes out with the Headline, 'ESPN and the NFL conspired to frame Tom Brady and the Patriots". Let the libel suits BEGIN!!!!!!!!! Bob Kraft and Tom Brady would leave with so much money they'd be able to start a new league on the carcass of the only one.

Whoah Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I'm in heavy fantasy mode now :D

I have a few suggestions for them as to whom should be out the door first. But, like everybody says, it will be the little guys who go.

I guess we are about to get the "disgruntled employee" stories.

I feel bad for all the fact-checkers and common-sense editors being shown the door. They just get in the way of a good conspiracy narrative which generates clicks and pop-up ad revenue.

".....Multiple sources inside and outside of ESPN tell The Big Lead that the network will be laying off “200 to 300” employees in the coming months.

These are the first ESPN layoffs since 2013, and might not be the last, as Disney has notified ESPN to trim $100 million from the 2016 budget and $250 million in 2017......"

For a complete list of ESPN employees who should be fired, you can simply look at the company directory. :)

My gut reaction is to love it, however common sense says those who are out to get the Patriots won't lose a minute of sleep.

Did that say 200-300 more people who might be able to reclaim their souls?

I'd like FoxSportsOne become a legitimate rival to ESPN, so I'd love to see that station grab some of the talent that gets cut, assuming any of it actually does (I'd love to see Schefter head over, but that's a pipe dream).

I don't like anything that's good for Fox.

The behind the scenes folks will take a hit. Could be funny if it's the TelePrompTer guy.
Hi this is bark mrunnell...

Would love to see Bruschi, Reiss and Schefter let go. No offense to their livelihoods but they can do better than that garbage network.

I honestly would not be surprised to see Reiss get his walking papers. There has been clear friction over the treatment of his work the last few months, and I'd wager he is among the better paid writers at ESPN. While I do not wish for Reiss to get the ace for his family's sake, he would not surprise me as a big name let go, especially with the regional hatred for all things BSPN.

What do you call 200-300 laid off ESPN employees?

A good start.

Let me say that instead of simply pressing the dislike button I wanted to state that I strongly disagree with this statement. I also dislike ESPN. However I suspect that for a good portion of the 200 to 300 employees, that paycheck and health benefits means a lot to their families.
