I know the Pats had a gameplan they wanted to stick with, but it seems like they could've held their lead had the Bills been given less time to rally.

I was fine with them passing it because their defense had been dominating, but didn't like the low percentage plays on fourth down. Why get tricky in those situations when you have been moving the ball so well all game?

No issues with the playcalling.

We just didn't execute.

Brady misses Edelman for a TD and had Gronk open for a first down.

Besides, I have a bigger issue with our defense playing soft more than our offense staying aggressive.

I would have preferred higher percentage passes, some draws, screens, a shuffle pass............just keep that clock running. That catch by Amendola was amazing and very low percentage......Welker never makes it :)

I wanted higher percentage passes on 4th down. I am not complaining, though.

4 TDs, 4 FGs, stopped twice on 4th downs.

Clean all of that up by the Indy game, score 10 TDs on those creampuffs, and I'm good!
;)

Not really, few drops and a few overthrows. Hit a couple of those missed plays and Brady has over 400 career TDs (although he will get that against the Jags anyway). It's a coaching point moving forward though.

Defensive playcalling however, that got really soft.

I like what you guys are saying. So I added another option to the poll in case you want to change your votes

I voted no but you don't go for it on fourth down in those situations. You punt and make the Bills' ****ty offense and ****ty QB work against the clock.

I dislike your options. The patriots would not be able to run the ball, which is why they passed it. I was fine with the play calling, they were successful passing the ball all game, it had nothing to do with running up the score.

So dude, are you saying that there's nothing the offense could've done differently?

Everything was fine, sure in hindsight, maybe they do something else, but the issues were with execution, not with play selection. The first 4th and 1 was a little bit of a mess, but the second one was fine.

NO....... You never slow down and get conservative when you are on an NFL FU tour dude. Were you not present in 07.

You do have to execute a bit better though so it maintains it demoralizing effects on the rest of the sucke...... Err, I mean opponents.

There should be a punting on 4th down at midfield with a large lead option in the poll which is my write-in vote

No, I hope they continue to be just as aggressive. Especially against the Colts. Go for it on 4th and short, and once we get a big lead, go for 2 points every time.

I hate close games but everytime we play Rex, it always comes down to a nail biter ;)

Okay, good point. I included additional options in case you want to re-cast your vote.

I included "other" in the poll. Happy now? :p

Yup! One vote for the contrarian, yet conventional, position.

I was okay with it for the most part. Only play I really hated was the long ball on fourth down. I didn't like that they even tried to go for it at midfield when they could have simply pinned Buffalo deep and forced them to waste some clock on a long drive even if they scored.

Put some blame on the defense in that fourth quarter too though. They were unable to keep Buffalo out of the endzone on three straight drives even though they weren't necessarily put in great field position. That's just unacceptable when youve been stifling them for the vast majority of the game.

Why? We won.
I am fine with any gameplan that produces a win.
To ask if certain plays should be called differently because they didn't work is to also ask that the philosophy in the game plan be different, so some of the plays that worked so well wouldn't have been called either.

I voted other because it's a combination of things that weren't up to snuff, IMO. They should have called at least some runs to burn the clock, understanding that there was a lot of time left, they are hard to run on and we needed to make a few first downs. The 4th & 1 play at mid-field for example. That was a WTF moment for me. Either punt it and try to pin them deep or give it to Lewis and see if he can get a yard. Why throw long to Edelman? That looked like just trying to run up the score and you set them up with great field position and lots of time to do something with it. I know he was open, but Brady overthrew him badly, which was a known risk at the time the play was called. Doing the usual thing would have given us better field position, better time on the clock or both. The defense was tired or checked out at that point and Lewis was gaining more than a yard on most, if not all of his carries. As TMQ would say, just to prove it was no fluke, the Pats again went pass-whacky on the last series where Brady was strip-sacked. At that point you've already telegraphed that you are sticking it up Rex's *** and Brady is going to throw, allowing the Buffalo D to tee off and get the turnover they desperately need. Why not call a draw there or a run? You should be milking the clock for all it's worth, not throwing for more yards! Not to mention keeping Brady, Gronk and Edelman in harm's way for another series. Curious tactics my dear George.

I guess it's coaching and play calling that were a disappointment for me in the 4th quarter yesterday. Luckily in the end it didn't matter, but we allowed the score to be much closer than it really was, if you get my meaning.

Edit - and I don't think this would be playing conservatively; it would be playing smart.
