99% of the websites say he ran a 4.45 at the combine. ONE site said 4.42. Not that 4.45 or 4.42 is slow, still damned fast. But he didn't run 4.32.

how do you not see it mentioned? there is a 4500 view/80 reply thread on the front page...

It makes sense that they'd try to keep Edelmen from getting injured. But he's one of the best kick returners in the history of the game. I don't see why you wouldn't want to use him.

I don't believe that Julian Edelman has returned kickoffs in quite some time now. Punts, yes--kickoffs, no.

According to Pro Football Reference, Edelman has returned a total of THREE kickoffs since the beginning of the 2012 season, and those occurred in the 2012 playoffs. He hasn't had a KO return in either 2013 or 2014.

He did have a 39.5 vertical (me likey) and a 12.2 long jump, so obviously he's explosive. Great combine numbers have not translated to great production on the field yet. Let's see if he amounts to anything other than a return man. I think BB's intention is to have zero draft picks in 2016 as a big FU to the league lol.
Can he play CB?:p

I was thinking the same thing. BB trades all his picks out of spite of the league.

Kinda like George Constanza telling a joke and immediately leaving the room...

If they are going to make this move, then why didn't they just draft Tyler ****adoodie Lockett instead of Jordan ****adoodie Richards?????!!!!!

Huh huh huh. You said "****"...and "Doodie." Huh huh huh.

Keshawn Martin had the distinction of being the worse Slot WR in the League in Houston also had questionable *hands* to boot. My question now: is there more to him? Martin has all world speed and Houston's QB situation had been abysmal after Matt Shaub. Can Brady turn him around he's plenty young with this being his Fourth Season. Could he be like Bethel Johnson who was threat in the return game and also catch an occasional deep pass? I would be very happy with that.

The 4.42 listed is what some had him running at the Combine. That "Low" wasn't done at the combine, maybe an unauthorized run at college. Regardless, let's just agree that he's really fast.

I think it's more of an issue that Gronk and Jules were basically wide open every time.

Yes, this was remarkable. Even on he play where they forgot to put someone on Gronk, everyone else was open, too. EVERYONE. Pittsburgh was just awful on pass defense that night. As bad as we've seen since, well, the Colts I guess, so that's not so long ago, but wow. I'm surprised at only 28 points.

40 time might be the most over-rated stat ever. How many routes involve only sprinting in a straight line? Oakland has proven that evaluating on 40 time doesn't work very well. 3 cone drill is a much better evaluation tool, maybe combined with 40, explosiveness and the shuttles.
3 cone was above average, 6.85.

This reminds me of one of those old Nintendo Hockey games where you could pick either the fat, medium, or skinny player. The fat guy was slow but had a great slapshot and couldn't get checked. The skinny guy was really fast but got knocked over easily and had a weak shot.

Of course, every once in awhile you'd get someone who would just go all-out and make all five guys either fat or skinny, or a combination fat and skinny but no mediums. That's the Patriots.

Wow, what a time machine thought! This was my freshman dorm game that dominated the floor (circa 1988).

I wonder if the Pats are trying to figure out a development project at WR between this trade, trying out Pryor, bring back Tompkins. A lot of activity to fill the WR5 spot. Or maybe Lafell is worse off than we think.

Saw on /r/nfl that Texans fans were universally rejoicing for: 1) finally getting rid of this guy; and 2) actually getting something in return.

Sounds like is not a bad guy just bad at football. And is just an average punt returner to boot. I'd really hate to take both JE & AD off of punts and go back to blah punt return game.

Cool statistical analysis of wide receiver prediction as they come out of college from somebody (I think) at UC Berkeley:
https://www.stat.berkeley.edu/~aldous/157/Old_Projects/Amrit_Dhar.pdf

Looks for overachievers and underachievers, but says it's really tough to predict, especially blocking ability. Does say that 40 time and BCS schools often produce underachievers. College stats are a good predictor and lots of overachieving WRs found in non-BCS schools.
From a pure statistical perspective, it's better to be drafted to a team with a bad QB--they don't spread the ball around the way a good QB does and tend to target only one or two receivers.

As always, I hope for something exciting, but I expect we will receive something commensurate with what we gave up, which I expect to be minimal. I still view the WR position as a dynamic "hot spot" in BB's 2015 presentation of "as the roster churns."

It's said that Keshawn Martin is good with the Ball in his hands you don't have to know our playbook to a tee to catch a screen pass. Knowing Buffalo plays an agressive style D I could see McDaniels calling some WR and TE screens to slow that rush down. Ryan have slowed Brady down in the pass which I think was due more to personel. I think even without LaFell the Pats are stacked on the Offense, Gronk and Edelman are like 7/11 always open this should open things up for our RB's *even Blount* and our Third and Fourth receivers including our #2 TE to get into the mix. If we can get the lead early I think we Blow em out!

I believe Martin will play a kick return role for us. Hopefully this will save some wear and tear on Edelman who is our de facto #1 WR right now.

Dangerous with the ball in open field:

This doesn't bode well for Dobson, whom I was higher than most this season.

Or not, since I have no idea who that is. Still, if he's able to bring something to this team, i Welcome him
