I'd just like to point out that I actually like the Buffalo Bills. I've never really had an issue with the team, and I have fond memories of the franchise because just when I was getting into football, it was the Jim Kelly era. I remember going to Foxboro in the early nineties and saw Kelly, Reed, and Thomas light up the Pats, but it was fun because we knew we were watching a championship caliber football team. All I can say is, I wish other fanbases would have the same level of respect for the Patriots, rather than this laughable culture of excuses, cheating accusations every turn, etc. etc.

we appreciate the way Rex Ryan has toned down his rhetoric this summer regarding the Patriots and the way he stepped up and blew off the Steelers' whining about the headsets. He realizes that this is not the time to pile on, and it is appreciated.

Rex and Belichick have a good deal of respect for each other. Belichick sitting Welker for a series, after Welker insulted Ryan, was pretty crazy.

I respect Rex as a defensive mind, and as a motivator for his team. This is going to be a real challenge for us....

I have always liked and respected the Bills more than any team in our division. When the Bills play Jets/Dolphins, I root for the Bills. I have found the fans to be pretty cool, and down to earth, and focused on football. I'm sure there are some exceptions, but I haven't met any down in my neck of the woods.

If Bills can get pressure on Brady through the interior of the OL it will
be a long day for the PATS. Bills may do this for the first half but will they
still be able to do it late in the game when they tire. I believe the Bills need
to be ahead by half time to win the game.

Here's to an injury free game Sunday. I've seen quite a bit of chatter about the Bills, some good some bad, some respectful, some disrespectful, some quality talent assessment, and some misinformed fans, and all I'm going to say is you find the aforementioned on every message board. One things for certain, as a Bills fan, seeing all this chatter means one thing: The Bills are once again relevant, and as a Bills fan that's great.

I'd like to give my thoughts about the Bills, I'm not going to act like I know a whole lot about the Pats, outside of a few general observations (Pressure Brady up the middle, so he can't step up, stop Gronk, etc.).

Anyways on to the Bills:

Offense:

I'll start with the good from Sunday's game vs. Indy: Bills weapons played well for the most part and their game plan succeeded even though the Colts did everything in their power to take away Sammy. I think this is attributed to Greg Roman. I remember in camp Rex made a comment about not forcing the ball to one player, if you take one weapon away, the offense will look to beat you another way. One thing I love about Rex, very little coach speak, he held true to his word, and this player Sunday was Percy Harvin. This upcoming game it could be Clay, Harvin again, Robert Wood over the middle, Sammy, or the running game.

On to TT, his game is very efficient, he's going to throw a lot of high percentage balls, and beat you with his legs at least 2-3 times a game. If I remember correctly, he wasn't sacked, in lieu of crappy oline play (I'll get to that). His pros: Good velocity on this throws/live arm, throws well on the run, cerebral in the sense that he really seems to know his role: high percentage throws, efficiency, and don't turn the ball over. If you're expecting a riverboat gambler, and turnovers you're going to be disappointed. The wild card, he certainly seems to have that wow play in him, but is extremely disciplined. Cons: Doesn't throw a very tight spiral (It gets there with velocity, but it's not pretty), seems to have limited vision (Missed a few open WR's), and at times it's one read and take off.

McCoy missed much of the preseason and it seemed to show on Sunday. A few times he appeared visibly upset Sunday, and didn't seem to be on the same page with the oline. I think for 25, more than most backs continuity with the oline is important, because of his running style. Karlos Williams, Fjax's replacement and a 5th rd pick, is a big bodied north south runner that compliments McCoy well. He had a nice 20 something yard TD run.

The online really struggled yesterday, I was very high on 3rd pick John Miller, but he struggled in the run game. I think Eric Wood is very overrated, Cordy Glenn took too many penalties, and Henderson struggled. Hope to see some improvement out of this unit.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bills talent is well documented on the D line, but two players the avg fan doesn't hear a whole lot about are 3rd round pick Preston Brown and 4th round pick Nigel Bradham. Both played incredibly well and are extremely athletic. Bradham is one of the faster linebackers in the league, and hits with authority. I think he finished the game with 8 tackles, 2 for loss and one sack. Getting Marcel Dareus back will be a nice boost for an already dominant unit, imo, he's the best player on the defensive side of the ball, an absolutely dominant force, that doesn't get much attention. I think the key to beating Brady and the Pats is to generate interior pressure, to limit his ability to step up in the pocket.

The secondary is incredibly deep, and I think had something crazy like 11PD yesterday. The Bills should be without starting S Corey Graham who looked like he was on the wrong side of a Buster Douglas Mike Tyson fight, and is concussed. His replacement Bacarri Rambo, had a mental lapse inside the 5 yesterday and allowed Luck and the Colts to get on the board in the second half. Aaron Williams is very gifted, instinctive and has really settled in as one of the young budding safety's in the league. Darby, will start opposite Gilmore, and from what I've seen early on, is prone to give up the big play, is good in coverage but lacks ball skills (although he did have his first INT on a pass from Luck to TY). Gilmore is a very, very good cover corner, but has hands of stone.

Anyhow, that's all I have for now. Oh and Carp kicked well, which is good because Rex was calling him out all preseason.

First of all, the board has a history of welcoming knowledgable and respectful posts from fans of other teams. Please don't be a stranger.

thanks for the analysis. I wasn't aware that McCoy was that out of synch with the o line and the rest of the offense...that's a cause for concern for all of your future opponents, since that will definitely get rectified (or "Rex-tified") quickly. Otherwise, you brought a balanced offense and completely shut the Colts down on the ground.

I was surprised that Luck played so badly...I thought he'd come out on fire with something to prove after the beatdown in the AFCCG, but clearly he didn't and his absurd comments about feeling "salty" watching the Pats play in the SB; I didn't see enough of the game to have a view on how much of it was that he sucked or how much was due to your D.

So, a dominating performance. I'll be honest enough to say that you dominated the Colts to a much greater degree than the Pats dominated the Steelers on Thursday.

I seldom think that a game this early in the season is "definitive" of any team; Belichick is fond of saying over and over that he doesn't feel he knows what he has in a team until around the sixth game.

This is exactly the kind of game (Division game, too early in the season to be meaningful, on the road against a fired up opponent with a new coach and owner ) that I am thinking of when I make my pre-season prediction out here on the board and say that the Pats "will probably lose four games this year." I could see them losing this Sunday.

But, I will say that if the Pats win on Sunday, I'll take it as a sign that they are on a mission this year.

Going into Buffalo against their old friend Rex and a revamped Offense and Defense....in front of an insanely fired up crowd after the Colts win...with a chance for Rex to crow that he knocked off the AFC's two finalists from last years AFCCG in the first two weeks of the season...if the Pats win in a convincing manner under those circumstances...I think it's a warning shot to the rest of the League that they are on a mission that will settle for nothing but grabbing a fifth Lombardi from Goodell's reluctant hands.

They are friends as well. You always see them talking and walking together at owners meetings etc. Rex respects the hell out of BB and thinks he has the roster to contend this year.

You think priority in the game plan against Steelers was to limit D'Angelo Williams? BB welcomed the run because it meant Roethlisburger wasn't passing. Similair what they did to Manning 2 years ago and why Moreno had 40 carries and 200 yards rushing.

No, I think the line was leaving huge holes for him to run through. You think that was by design?

Belechik always talks about the season being a single game at a time. I think he does that better than anyone else in the game. It is how you guys can start slow last year and end up the best team in football. He makes roster moves, teaches and builds his roster one game at a time, from training camp to the Super Bowl. That is why the Pats are always so damn tough. We will learn alot about the Bills this weekend, win or lose, we wont learn much about the Pats, we already know they will be there at the end of the season, contending for a title.

You think they would have handed the Steelers a TD at the end of the game had the scoreboard been that close? The Pats took their foot off the gas in the 4th quarter due to a big lead. Now way the Steelers win that game when they were unable to make a big play in the red zone when it mattered and could not stop Brady.
I didn't see them handing the Steelers anything at the end of the game. I've never seen a Belichick coached team hand anything to an opponent when the first string was still in the game. Butler couldn't stop Brown, who caught nine passes. That was a perfectly thrown pass to where only Brown could catch it and at least a foot out of Butler's reach.

I don't think they wanted to give them big holes to run through but he's has formations that made passing harder so that choosing to run was more inviting. Hes done that in the past... a couple of years ago against Denver for example.

I wouldn't get excited about a win in week 2. Remember how Miami humiliated us in week 1 last year? How did that work out for them?

Just saying.

Personally I expect the Bills to win. Whether Ryan can sustain success in Buffalo is a doubtful proposition but I have little doubt that walking on to a team flush with years of high draft picks Ryan will turn around that franchise in a hurry.

Furthermore everything Rex Ryan does is with an eye towards beating the Pats. I believe it is an obsession for him, and as far as obsessions go its a healthy one professionally. That's why he went to Buffalo instead of outside the AFC East (and, as foreboding pointed out, why perpetual Pats-whipping-boy Buffalo needed him) and that's probably why he's going with Tyrod Taylor as his QB, given BB's conservative philosophy when facing running QBs.

Playing Taylor I think hamstrings the growth of the Bills offense long-term - unless Taylor becomes something he currently isn't - but in the short term it makes the Pats defensively conservative and lets Ryan do what he prefers, dictate game tempo while the Pats contain and react. The Bills will do that defensively as well and the game will hinge on whether or not the Pats can hit on a few big plays when the aggressive Bills' scheme breaks down. Usually the Pats don't play this way and can't do this consistently, although they did famously manage the feat against Baltimore in the playoffs last year.

Anyways with Ryan in Buffalo I think you pencil in a 1-1 series split with them for the next couple years.

You are probably right, but if the Bills start the season 2-0 by beating the two teams who were in the AFC championship game, Bills fans (me included) will lose our collective minds.

But it doesn't mean we "can't" win this game, or we are being disloyal if we question whether we will. Over the years we've seen dozens of wins that seemed to go against the odds. The fact is that "on paper", and given where Bill is in the team building process (very early), more of the pluses seem to be on the Bills side unless you are being blind or stubborn.

For me if this game was at home, I'd expect to win. But it isn't, so my expectations will be to see continued improvement in a lot of areas we've discussed and hope for the best. If we win, then fine. If we lose, and show improvement, I won't be shocked. In my mind, we aren't going to have our best lineup on the field for most of the first half of the season, so a 5-3 record would be fine with me. Anything better would be gravy. But that's just me.

That's pretty pessimistic about the Patriots. If we go up and down the line-up, I like the Patriots:

Head Coach - Patriots
Quarterback - Patriots
Running Backs - Push (Blount-Lewis is just as good as McCoy-Williams, and the Pats get the edge if Cadet is playing
Wide Receivers - Patriots - Harvin fraudulent - see:http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/Percy-Harvin/580f8f71-cbac-436b-8788-12d5c204bfdc
Tight Ends - Patriots
Offensive Line - Push after Thursday's performance, edge to Patriots if Stork was not on IRR
Defensive Line - Bills (but not by much)
Linebackers - Patriots
Cornerbacks - Bills
Safeties - Patriots
Kicker - Patriots
Punter- Patriots

I'd be interested to know where you disagree. I think sometimes we underestimate Patriots groupings, but this is still the Super Bowl Champion team playing a bunch of guys with little or no playoff experience.

I would not be surprised if the Bills win this. So much rides on the Patriots offensive line doing well as they move up in class. I really wish Stork was available.

I would also not be surprised to see the Patriots defense hold the Bills to 17 or fewer points. Harvin is a crappy route runner who relies on his speed to get separation (1 TD in the last two seasons does not scare me, and Watkins is basically LaFell with a few more yards receiving.) The Patriots need to punish McCoy physically and contain Taylor. These scrambling QBs have never really given the Patriots all that much trouble.

Finally, the Bills had a big day because the Colts defense sucks. Grigson wasted his time adding older offensive players and relied on two rookie defensive linemen to shore up a terrible line. The Patriots have a terrific front seven (and tremendous coaching) that will keep the rookie QB guessing all game.

Also a key is the speed of which Brady gets rid of the ball, one of the fastest releases in the NFL. If they are able to jam and/or cover our receivers and TEs, it could be a problem for the Pat's offense. I don't think Blount can run on the Bills.

Bills fans Saturday night:

Our defense is great, we just need to pressure Brady and jam Gronk and blah blah blah.

Bills fans Monday morning:

Cheaters, cheaters, waaaaah, waaaaaah, waaaaaaaaaaah! Asterisks, Brady should be banned from HoF. Kraft should have to sell the team. Belicheat. Blah, blah, blah.

The first 4 games of the season are always a mess. Teams do not start to form a real identity until week 8 or so....I wouldn't take much from the game on Sunday. Watch it and enjoy it as NFL football, but how a team plays in week two is almost never representative of how a team plays in week 13

.....and their historically bad and crappy defense held our team to under it's scoring average also.

The Pats have some work to do. Thank goodness, BB will not be sitting back so self satisfied.

After the 4th TD, the offense went into kill the clock mode.

Had the offense not taken the pedal off the medal.........it would have been 42 or 49.

As far as the defense goes.........let the Steeler offense "do what it does".......run around......compile massive yardage...........and not score.

So what cemetary are you whistling by today?

Pittsburgh's All Pro RB, Center and Martavis Bryant were all out and it was a home game for the Pats.

Buffalo on the road and a FAR better Defense?

Look, it's nice to think positive thoughts, but it's also important to keep your feet in reality too.

The Pats can definitely win "Buffalo's Annual September Super Bowl", but it will be a much bigger challenge than the coronation ceremony at Gillette last week. And they will have to play a far better game than the one they turned in last Thursday.

You might want to start watching the games.

Our starting center, starting RB and JoJo Lafell were out. For someone preaching "reality"....????? where are you?

Here's the news flash. The offense put up 37 points in Orchard Park last year against the same defense.

Also, does anybody around here actually watch the NFL?

The Steelers offense is notorious for what it did Thursday. Huge yards and can't score.

Evers555, come back after the game on Sunday in Buffalo.
