It is always difficult to forecast based on week 1 results. NFL football does not start to resemble NFL football until about week 5. However, Peyton's arm looks done and the Colts look soft. That is what I take from the two games I watched yesterday.

Go back and look at how the Pats played at the end of the first half in the last Super Bowl. That was the worst less-than two minutes of football I've seen in quite some time.
I remember but the Cowboys rivaled that last night. Quite some time should be replaced with since our last Superbowl.

I felt bad for Steph Stradley. The Texans were in a tight, one-score game in their season opener and there were a ton of empty seats in their stadium. They really should get rid of two teams and bring the total back down to 30.

Frankly, I'd prefer they create a more formal "developmental league" system. They can't make a perfect schedule, but the one they have right now is about as fair as you can make a league system, given the constraints of the NFL.

I absolutely get that things are fluid. But does that mean we can't talk about things as they appear today? None of the statements I made cannot change even by next week. What would we talk about if not what we've seen to this point? I don't know. I guess it's way more serious than that to some, just not me. No offense to you intended, man.

That could be partially because it wasn't a "tight, one score game", it was 27-6 late in the third quarter and Houston just made a garbage time effort to cover the spread.

For all of you who picked Winston over mariota, I told you so. Haha.

Unfortunately Winston has one of the worst head coaches on his side. At best, Winston will be Donovan
Campbell soup mcNabb. He's not coachable.
Remember Byron Leftwich? Winston reminds me of him.

  • Lots of sloppy football
  • Some exciting finishes
  • TB Front Office: "Should have, could have..."
  • Pete Carroll's gonna be in Pete Carroll's head.
  • That was Cable Eli at the end of the Sunday night game
  • Despite all the flaws, the Pats looked good compared to the others
  • BUT, it's only Week 1.

History has shown that week one is not an indicator what so ever of how the season plays out and that people jump to conclusions that usually don't pan out. So now we have a new 16 best teams ever and 16 worst teams ever to play that the media gets to spew over.
This is understood. I get why people are posting things like this, but I also don't get it. What else are we supposed to talk about? I know that how a team looks today has little to do with how they look a month from now and a month after that and so on. But we need to talk about something, no? And besides, this thread is more on the lighthearted side of things. I am well aware that things can change. Will they is the question. LOL Some of the things on the list about certain people or teams have been the same for seasons. LOL

How about Lynch getting the carry on 4th and 1ish and getting stopped for a loss.....

Elite Joe Flacco was awful. The Ravens offense looked really bad in the post Kubiak era. They dont even have Torrey Smith and his 2 PI's a game anymore.

Returning to the Pats Steelers game for some more reflections:

Yes the Pats played three rookies on the interior Offensive linemen. They did surprisingly well.

But the Pats also played two rookies on the interior Defensive line as well! They did rotate in Alan Branch and Sealver Selinga some though. It would not have been unexpected if the veterans played after Dom Easley went down, but BB elected to go with the rookies Malcolm Brown and Geneo Grissom instead. They occasionally gave up some plays but not much scoring.

They also played a Pass Defense oriented 4-2-6, almost inviting the run, knowing that they couldn't be beat with second string RBs. They yielded occasional plays but not enough to sustain an opponent's drive. BB reaffirms his Bend but Don't Break philosophy though.

I made the observation, that the coverage was tight and even on completions, YAC was held to a minimum. So that was encouraging, too. Both Butler and Brown did more than OK, and Fletcher was not far behind. I also note there were no smurfs playing in the secondary like there used to be. There are none even on the roster or PS. BB has changed his philosophy, even in the slot where 6'0" Tarell Brown has replaced "almost 5'10" Kyle Arrington used to play.

The Ravens picked up Arrington right? He made some heads up plays for them against the Broncos.

But I suspect that Mallett has won the starting QB job off his relief performance. If you could replace Mallett's brain with Hoyer's brain, and keep his body, the resulting QB would be a Superstar.

In some respect, this could be beneficial. With Hoyer's failure, Mallett will not be hounded by Hoyer fans to be replaced after every mistake, and he can grow in a full season of starting, with a respectable squad that the Texans field. Plus... Suddenly the Colts don't seem to be unbeatable in the Division. Especially if Mariotta makes the Titans no sure pushover. Jax already had a QB, maybe the Titans and Texans do too.

It only illustrated that the new second talent is better than analyst-predictors thought, when somewhat able Arrington can be dismissed.

I always liked Arrington, but I thought of Bill's assessment of him was interesting. About him being streaky, that if a player caught a couple of passes on him, it could cause him to overplay his assignment and get burned a lot more.

Yeah. they should do something like they do in British Soccer. Every year the 2 worst teams in the league would have to go down to the developmental league, and the 2 best teams in the D-league would be brought up.
