Here's to an injury free game Sunday. I've seen quite a bit of chatter about the Bills, some good some bad, some respectful, some disrespectful, some quality talent assessment, and some misinformed fans, and all I'm going to say is you find the aforementioned on every message board. One things for certain, as a Bills fan, seeing all this chatter means one thing: The Bills are once again relevant, and as a Bills fan that's great.

I'd like to give my thoughts about the Bills, I'm not going to act like I know a whole lot about the Pats, outside of a few general observations (Pressure Brady up the middle, so he can't step up, stop Gronk, etc.).

Anyways on to the Bills:

Offense:

I'll start with the good from Sunday's game vs. Indy: Bills weapons played well for the most part and their game plan succeeded even though the Colts did everything in their power to take away Sammy. I think this is attributed to Greg Roman. I remember in camp Rex made a comment about not forcing the ball to one player, if you take one weapon away, the offense will look to beat you another way. One thing I love about Rex, very little coach speak, he held true to his word, and this player Sunday was Percy Harvin. This upcoming game it could be Clay, Harvin again, Robert Wood over the middle, Sammy, or the running game.

On to TT, his game is very efficient, he's going to throw a lot of high percentage balls, and beat you with his legs at least 2-3 times a game. If I remember correctly, he wasn't sacked, in lieu of crappy oline play (I'll get to that). His pros: Good velocity on this throws/live arm, throws well on the run, cerebral in the sense that he really seems to know his role: high percentage throws, efficiency, and don't turn the ball over. If you're expecting a riverboat gambler, and turnovers you're going to be disappointed. The wild card, he certainly seems to have that wow play in him, but is extremely disciplined. Cons: Doesn't throw a very tight spiral (It gets there with velocity, but it's not pretty), seems to have limited vision (Missed a few open WR's), and at times it's one read and take off.

McCoy missed much of the preseason and it seemed to show on Sunday. A few times he appeared visibly upset Sunday, and didn't seem to be on the same page with the oline. I think for 25, more than most backs continuity with the oline is important, because of his running style. Karlos Williams, Fjax's replacement and a 5th rd pick, is a big bodied north south runner that compliments McCoy well. He had a nice 20 something yard TD run.

The online really struggled yesterday, I was very high on 3rd pick John Miller, but he struggled in the run game. I think Eric Wood is very overrated, Cordy Glenn took too many penalties, and Henderson struggled. Hope to see some improvement out of this unit.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bills talent is well documented on the D line, but two players the avg fan doesn't hear a whole lot about are 3rd round pick Preston Brown and 4th round pick Nigel Bradham. Both played incredibly well and are extremely athletic. Bradham is one of the faster linebackers in the league, and hits with authority. I think he finished the game with 8 tackles, 2 for loss and one sack. Getting Marcel Dareus back will be a nice boost for an already dominant unit, imo, he's the best player on the defensive side of the ball, an absolutely dominant force, that doesn't get much attention. I think the key to beating Brady and the Pats is to generate interior pressure, to limit his ability to step up in the pocket.

The secondary is incredibly deep, and I think had something crazy like 11PD yesterday. The Bills should be without starting S Corey Graham who looked like he was on the wrong side of a Buster Douglas Mike Tyson fight, and is concussed. His replacement Bacarri Rambo, had a mental lapse inside the 5 yesterday and allowed Luck and the Colts to get on the board in the second half. Aaron Williams is very gifted, instinctive and has really settled in as one of the young budding safety's in the league. Darby, will start opposite Gilmore, and from what I've seen early on, is prone to give up the big play, is good in coverage but lacks ball skills (although he did have his first INT on a pass from Luck to TY). Gilmore is a very, very good cover corner, but has hands of stone.

Anyhow, that's all I have for now. Oh and Carp kicked well, which is good because Rex was calling him out all preseason.

Nice post, evans. I think most of us are expecting a hard-fought game this Sunday. Rex always gives us fits, and you guys have a LOT of new weapons on both sides of the ball.

Here's to no injuries, and best of luck to your team when you're not playing the Pats.

Most Pats fans will welcome your comments. We know it's NEVER easy in Buffalo even when they had less talented teams and different coaches. But we DO know Rex. ;) and the good and bad about him. Rex will have them ready to play, like its the superbowl. That is for certain. But he won't be facing a QB who had only seen his defenses one time before. Brady has had several 3o+ point games going against good Jet defenses, so that familiarity will be helpful.

1. Rex's best win ever (IIRC he's had 4) was in the 2010 playoffs when he beat the Pats at home playing a soft zone with 5 under and 3 deep trying to squeeze the Pats short passing game. That night they did a great job of disguising their blitzes and getting Tom to be indecisive and holding the ball. I suspect the Bills to LOOK like they are coming all the time, but most of the time they will look to force Brady to throw quickly and into coverage. You saw a bit of that vs Luck.

2,. The Pats OL gave Brady plenty of time despite having 3 rookies playing considerable snaps (2 fourth rounders and an UDFA ) The run game was just mediocre. Obviously the challenge THIS week will be much more difficult. Clearly the talent is better, but what might be even more difficult will be the fact this will be their first away game. Buffalo has always had a tough crowd, and I expect it to be their best crowd in a decade on Sunday. So there will LOTS of pressure on a very inexperienced interior OL.

3. Your skill players (McCoy, Watkins, TE, and Harvin, etc are as good an individual group as the Pats will face this year so it will be a good test of our new secondary. One point for you to remember. Our front 7 played horrible run defense vs Pittsburgh, but part of that was that the front 7 was actually the front 6 since we were in a 4-2-5 for most of the game. Even then it SHOULD have been better and wasn't, so we have a LOT of improvement to see.

4. If I were a Bills fan I would be experiencing a LOT of excitement and hopefulness right now. You are coming off a dominating win against one of the AFC's preseason favorites, and are playing a team who gave up over 150 yards on the ground and 350 thru the air, is starting an UDFA at C, has no one at RB and is missing their starting WR.......AT HOME. What could be better than that, eh.

This is a game your team SHOULD win, despite the last 15 years of Patriot Dominance. But if we as Pats have learned over all the years of success we've had, it's early. With the new CBA practice rule, most teams are still in preseason mode. What you see in September might not be what you'll see in December when playoff berths are decided. You remember last season. You know the one when the Patriots dynasty ended after game 4. ;)

5. So lets hope your wishes come partially true. That its a great hard hitting game where no one gets hurt. After that we shall see what we see and let the team who makes the most big plays win.

Ya because Tyrod Taylor is definitely Ben Roethlisburger and the Bills have Antonio Brown.

No, but I think Lesean McCoy > Deangelo Williams, so...

Bills have Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin, Charles Clay and LeSean McCoy. That is a boatload of talent--certainly better weapons than the Steelers had last week. Plus, they have a mobile QB, which generally does not play to the strengths of a Belichick defense. If the Bills can stay close and therefore stay balanced, I think they present a lot of problems for our defense.

Let's see how the pats decide to attack Buffalo first, because as we have all seen, it's possible that Tyrod Taylor may look like a future hall of famer, if the Pats do what what they normally do with QB's they have not played before, and running QBs.

No, but I think Lesean McCoy > Deangelo Williams, so...

You think priority in the game plan against Steelers was to limit D'Angelo Williams? BB welcomed the run because it meant Roethlisburger wasn't passing. Similair what they did to Manning 2 years ago and why Moreno had 40 carries and 200 yards rushing.

The biggest Patriot concerns, honestly, are Solder and Vollmer against Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes. The interior of the line is going to be doubled. RB/G on one lineman, C/G on the other. It's the single blocking from the Ts that is going to be a key.

The matchup in the trenches should be very interesting, as you pointed out the Pats OL is a bit green. However, the Bills Oline looked very rough, and took a lot of penalties.

Side note, what's the deal with JMCOO? doesn't seem to be friendly and very combative.

Antonio Brown > Sammy Watkins
Heath Miller > Charles Clay

BB won't treat McCoy like he is a the oldest RB in the league like DeAngelo Williams was.

Chicken little mentality on here in full force today. Bills have the great defense and now potent offense and the Pats have absolutely no defense and the offense that has Tom Brady, Rob Gronksowki and Julian Edleman is just meh.

This game scares me. NE can't show up in Buffalo with that crap defense they played against the Steelers.

Let's say it together: Game plan defense. Now you try.

With LeVeon Bell out, it made sense for us to go light in the box and let Pittsburgh give the ball to DeAngelo Williams. That is a better outcome for us than Roethlisberger attempting 40-50 passes and BB knows it. It's the same thing we did against Peyton Manning two years ago, except Manning is so smart he's dumb and Roethlisberger is so dumb he's smart.

Our players didn't always execute well on this game plan. There was some bad tackling (expected in week 1) and not great setting of the edge. I'll give Ninkovich a pass because Beachum got away with holding him for most of the game.

All-in-all, we held a team that averages 27 points to 14 meaningful points. I guess everyone needs to be reminded it's about points not yards.

Nice post evan...Rex has given Brady fits quite a number of times but I think most of that resulted in Brady not playing with a Full deck ie...all his skilled players. I think this time it's going to be different I hope we go with the one RB formation with Deion Lewis getting the lions share of the carries. Lewis is a dynamic pass catcher who puts pressure on the Defense unlike Blount. The Gronk/Chandler TE duo should be featured alot with one going down the Seams at all times to keep the Defense honest. Also a wildcard in this game could be a Guy like Aaron Dobson, If he's featured and factors on the outside. Then Brady could play Catch with the trio of Gronk/Edeman and Lewis.

Your team is stacked on both sides of the ball - if I were you, I would be pretty jazzed about them too!

Nonetheless, you weren't too likely to find much concern around these parts before now. But if Taylor / Roman are truly the match made in heaven they seemed to be yesterday, look out!

So what cemetary are you whistling by today?

Pittsburgh's All Pro RB, Center and Martavis Bryant were all out and it was a home game for the Pats.

Buffalo on the road and a FAR better Defense?

Look, it's nice to think positive thoughts, but it's also important to keep your feet in reality too.

The Pats can definitely win "Buffalo's Annual September Super Bowl", but it will be a much bigger challenge than the coronation ceremony at Gillette last week. And they will have to play a far better game than the one they turned in last Thursday.
