OT: Roger Goodell is stubborn

I don't know if I hate this more or less than a team in London.

He still wants to extend the regular season or playoffs, so as to get more revenue.

In this case it's to offset revenue lost by canceling a couple preseason games per team -- but of course different individuals play in the preseason than play afterwards. So this is really just the same idea that was shot down before.

I'm fine, personally, with fewer games that don't count - especially those that are simply money grabs for owners.

If this is how the NFLPA is able to re-open the CBA, I'm probably on board.

Just leave it alone, always trying to change sh*t that don't need to be changed.

"I'm just telling you: Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. And they're getting hoggy.

"Just watch. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. When you try to take it too far, people turn the other way. I'm just telling you, when you've got a good thing and you get greedy, it always, always, always, always, always turns on you. That's rule No. 1 of business." - Mark Cuban on the NFL

This season of "attrition" leads me to believe that 18 games will serve no one's purpose except the owners, who Goodell works for... otoh think the preseason is too long as well.

Not sure of a really good answer, but if they went to 18 games, perhaps consideration should be given to dressing 53 players(as they are getting paid anyways) and having more options for players getting hurt early on to return.. maybe three short term injured reserve players per team would make it more palatable...

Do,you start the season earlier or run it later?... If you start earlier, everyone is on vacation in late August. If you run the season later, you risk a Nor'easter in early February for a league championship game in early Febrauary in a northern city.....keep it at 16 and get rid of 2 preseason games....

If they are going to expand the number of reg season and playoff games they need to add more players to the game day roster, make the practice squad more of a AAA type setup (so if they get sent down they don't get claimed by other teams) and expand/relax the IR rules to allow more players to come back from early-season injuries

IMHO best case scenario, it leads to more revenue for the League. Worst case scenario, it leads to another bargaining chip come the next CBA. Win-win for them.

Did a poll here on the 18 game season a couple years back, and it was overwhelmingly NO. Think about that--there is literally no group of people in the world more likely to hold up their bowl and ask for "more" than Patriots fans who post on a team message board--great team, and obviously really invested in them. But pretty much nobody here thought that was a good idea. Why? Because we have brains, and genuinely care about the game (and its players) as opposed to being shoddy humans just attaching themselves to the sport for a buck.

Man, PLEASE get someone in there with a soul. Please.

I think they should do away with two preseason games, expand to 18 regular season games, add an extra bye week, expand the rosters, play around a bit with the pup stuff, and make the superbowl happen on Sunday before President's day, so Monday is a holiday.

This has been kicked around since the last CBA, and it would be a major concession from the union. We saw too many star athletes go down this weekend, and too many go down last season. The Cardinals had the #1 record last year until they lost Carson Palmer and their two backup quarterbacks. A longer season means more injuries to starting lineups, and there's enough already.

As far as Goodell's stubbornness, just look at the settlement offers he reportedly offered Brady in a hearing Goodell would ultimately lose. There are reports Goodell stormed out of CBA negotiations leaving Kraft and Jones to do the work.

My favorite report is Goodell was approached by Funny or Die to do a segment with Zach Galifianakis, but backed out when he couldn't get them to not make jokes during the segment.

I disagree, the people who watch games every Sunday, but aren't invested in the time wasting stuff we do here are much more likely to think 18 games is much better than 16. We sit here and analyze and overthink everything.

If this was changed to 18 games, people would complain for a while but still watch it, and then in 5 years we would all say, boy remember back when, there used to be 4 preseason games and only 16 games, then everyone had to get up all hungover on the Monday after the Superbowl.

I think it would take a major concession by the owners, something along the lines of the next years salary paid and "off cap" if a player is cut.

I'm not at all inclined to want the players to take two more physical/ punishing games simply so I can drink excessively and then avoid a hangover for the SB.

The players should agree on one condition, they get all the money from the TV deals.
