Eagles Owner Jeff Lurie Will Not Dismiss Cheating in SB 39

I know its been said about a thousand times in the past year, but above all the failures, this truly shows how misplaced Goodell is in his role of Commissioner.

You can get on the guy for having no moral fiber, for arrogance beyond all understanding, stupidity that is second to none, all of which would be warranted. But, now he has lost complete control of his delegates. Its one thing for us to say hes bad, but when the people you represent begin to act out in public like twelve year old girls, you have failed in your position.

It has been said countless times that Roger isnt getting fired because in the end, his job is to represent the owners and their interests. This is a total, unmitigated disaster in that regard. Having a prominent owner sling mud at another organization over he said/she said, I mean, it makes the league look like its run by Terrell Suggs.

I know most have already assumed that Goodell is clearly behind all of this, and has taken the leashes off his foaming owners, but that is exactly the failure. He has bent the integrity of the office for the benefit of himself. What does anyone think the outcome of this will be? How can the league see this as anything else but what it is? The league is failing, and in front of the worlds eyes.

There was a long stretch of time when Gary Bettman was the most hated person in sports since he seemed to have no idea what he was doing, and was seemingly ruining the sport in the process. In hindsight, while I dont agree with everything he did, at least you can see the forest through the trees. With Roger, he sees the trees, decided he didnt like the way they were looking at him, and set the world ablaze.

That's okay. We don't have proof the Eagles didn't cheat.
We do have proof that McNabb was out of shape and could not run a two-minute offense, though. That's on camera for the world to see. LOL

Don't we have video evidence of the Patriots being prepared to face all sorts of plays, and often the specific situations that come up during the game? Yet I'm supposed to believe being ready to face nickle and dime packages would be a complete revelation? Or that Philly was going to blitz a lot?

These comments would be funny if they weren't so pathetic.

In Bill's post -game presser Thurs night, when he started to get very detailed about what coverages they face from Pitt and what the do offensively, he just wasn't being Chatty Cathy for the hell of it- he had a motivation.

Bill is always calculated and I believe this to be true. He makes a point and leaves it up to you to figure out what he's really saying.

Bettman got so bad at his job the NHLPA needed to bring in Donald Fehr.

Exactly. He'll rarely even talk like that during the week with the locals or on the radio but never after a game. Never.

That was a, "I know everything that you do and I know how to beat it. If you think I'm stealing signals or taping what you do, thats your problem. Not mine. At this point everyone thinks we do it so go right on thinking it.".

Its kinda like a Jedi Mind Trick. Move along...move along...

Can someone with a background in graphic design PLEASE photoshop a picture of the Lombardi covered in vomit?

The Philadelphia Eagles are literally using the logic that says "We lost, therefore the Patriots were cheating."

The ESPN article says:

When Spygate broke, some of the Eagles now believed they had an answer for a question that had vexed them since they lost to the Patriots 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX: How did New England seem completely prepared for the rarely used dime defense the Eagles deployed in the second quarter, scoring touchdowns on three of four drives? The Eagles suspected that either practices were filmed or a playbook was stolen. "To this day, some believe that we were robbed by the Patriots not playing by the rules ... and knowing our game plan," a former Eagles football operations staffer says.

The Patriots scored a whopping 24 points in that game. The Eagles are literally claiming "we employed a rarely used dime defense in that game and they scored 24 points on it, therefore they must have cheated and somehow gained knowledge of our gameplan in advance."

I won't dismiss it, either. It's quite possible that the Eagles cheated.

Weird that for the rest of the game, the Patriots were unable to score against the Eagles base defense. I'm sure, though, that they didn't know anything about the base defense. By the way, nice coaching decision to switch to and stay in that "rarely used dime defense" when your vanilla defense had them stifled.

Honestly if the Eagles lost a playbook its on them but why would you admit to it and look incompetent? Doesn't make sense.

There was a time when people in professional sports whould have been ridiculed for making lame excuses. I miss those times.

OMG THIS!!!

I said this to my boss yesterday after talking some Patriots... Years ago, people would have been embarrassed and ashamed to have their name attached to such ridiculously petty whining. Hell, my Pop Warner coach when I was just a little kid would have NEVER allowed anyone on our teams to make excuses, much less baseless, whiny, pathetic excuses like warm gatorade, headsets, 0.2 PSI, etc.. Maybe that's why we made it to 3 state championships in a row..

Its so disgusting and pathetic what society is becoming. Don't bother reaching for greatness kids, just settle for mediocrity and if someone comes along that's better than you, just make up excuses and play the victim card!

Excuse me while I throw up in my mouth.

Rant Time.

I really think that it's a society thing. Everyone is so friggan sensitive to self-esteem. No one can just get their ass kicked or not be good enough or not get the job done and work harder and smarter. Upon realizing one is inadequate to get the job done, the innate need to whine, and belittle the person/reason for their failure, self-preservation kicks in and they create this false sense of reality. They basically feel entitled to a better lot in life even though they haven't earned a goddamn thing.

The whole cheating thing is nothing but an inability to admit failure and personnel shortcomings.

Getting personal satisfaction by overcoming adversity and working harder is a dying concept. Its tragic.

OH, and you forgot - Hate anyone else who refuses to indulge in excuses and chooses, instead, to reach for excellence.

“I look back on that game and the Super Bowl as some missed opportunities. I tend to focus on that. But there’s always been talk about that from the time the game finished and continued on until now.”

This claim from Lurie is false. Show me an article from February 2005 through September 2007 where anyone on the Eagles or anyone in the media was saying this. They don't exist. That "talk" only started after the sideline camera fiasco handed the Eagles an excuse. Instead of admitting they lost to a team that outplayed them that, they took that excuse and ran with it.

Who the f*** plays dime against Dillion?

Especially that year. He can't be right. He just can't.

Jim Johnson's run D was to shoot gaps with a lot of zone blitzing.

With that said- I agree. The Iggles didn't have the personnel on their D line to play pure dime- especially for Dillion who carried the ball over 400 times including postseason.

Okay, so I just have one question: where are these SB practices being held that the Patriots would even be able to videotape them? I have always wondered that and surprised that this is the first time I've asked the question out loud. Am I missing something? I thought these practices were closed and private. How would someone on one staff gain access to the other team's practice, especially considering how important the game is?

The Patriots only scored 7 points in the first half of that game. Apparently the Eagles are stunned by the notion of adjustments.
