Does anyone else feel a setup coming on?

I don't really quite feel that it's some sort of setup, but a mindset or atmosphere that the NFL has done nothing to discourage (and in fact has encouraged and inflamed), in the perception of the Patriots as an organization that persists in "cheating" or getting an edge any way they can, no matter how immoral.

The NFL office has fostered and encouraged an atmosphere where speculation and accusation against the Patriots goes unchecked, and even spirals out of control in the media. The headset hysteria is a byproduct of that- it wasn't even mentioned that the Patriots also had trouble with their headsets. Reminds me of this:

This past Sunday it was headsets, and next week, or down the road, it'll be something else. Perceptions will get distorted, people will get whipped up into a frenzy, and this will be something the NFL will refuse to temper. The irony of all this is that I predict it will backfire on the NFL, because it does nothing to the Patriots, either Brady or BB, and by extension, the team, because they have their blinders on. They've been through this ******** before.

However the bigger this gets, the more the NFL will be perceived to be not in control, and not being capable of keeping this "cheating" in check, and more importantly, will come to be continually associated with "cheating" or "playing dirty" as that will be the lead item on any news media, so the message will be continual and repetitive: "NFL" associated with "Cheating" "breaking rules," etc. etc. Word assocations that make the NFL look bad.

In other words, the NFL will start to FIFA itself.

the setup happened last january

the league can't afford another botched setup.........

Well, sometimes I get a little paranoid. The NSA is intercepting my calls. My ATM card got hacked at Target. My hero Tom Brady got maliciously smeared by the NFL with DeflateGate. I'm pretty sure the camera over the stoplight on my street winked at me. Fox 25 took Maria Stephanos off the 10 o'clock news to ruin my life. I'm certain the Patriots are talking about me when they're in the huddle. So, yeah, it's more probable than not that they're out to get me.

Here it comes....

The frequency coordinator for Gillette Stadium says he has a phone meeting today with Mike Kensil VP of Game Ops for the NFL.

We have learned a lot about the NFL over the past several months. The 2 points that stick with me are;
  • the NFL front office is truly incompetent (specifically Kensil's area)
  • the NFL front office is incredibly arrogant
Based on that; we probably should expect more BS from them and the lemmings that kiss their backsides

I feel the set up issue, but we just can't worry about it any more. It's the season, baby. Let 'em cry.

BINGO Deus!!

I'm hoping we don't have any more wimps crying paranoid conspiracy theories. You'd think many of our posters sit around thinking about this stuff!

And you can disagree, but that will just confirm your wimpiness! :D

I'm really concerned that the next one will be about warm Gatorade. How do the Pats defend themselves against that one? Patriots are F**ed this season.

Lol, I think we need Wells ad Exponent on this case. They could draw charts of the gatorade warming up over time.

Or that the Gatorade was .2 degrees above normal temperature so there had to be tampering.

To me it looks like Goodell took a page out of the WWF, you create ''Bad guys'' that are taken down by good guys. Its more entertaining, then just so and so against so and so, and more people will watch. Obviously the ''bad guys'' are the pats, the good guys are any team that plays them. Effectively Goodell has/is turning the NFL into pro wrestling , but its also destroying the integrity of the league and the game. So i agree what the FO has done could very well backfire on them, in fact it seems it already has. As you said every week it will be something new.

From now on, haters and their allies in the League office will try to seize "moments of opportunity" (like the kerfuffle over the Headsets on Thursday), but I don't think that they will be trying any more "set ups."

The NFL spent weeks planning the "deflation" set up, enlisting the collaboration of the Ravens and Colts.

Then they spent millions on a bought and paid for "independent" investigation that proved more damaging to the reputation of the Investigator, Ted Wells, than to the Patriots, who were exonerated by the investigation's own science in the eyes of every objective observer...and now even in the eyes of haters.

They then had a piece of League Office Window-Dressing (Troy Vincent) hand down "his own independent" sanctions against the team and Brady.

Finally, they supervised a bogus "Appeals" process where they were so arrogant as to deny Brady access to one of the lead investigators, Pash, and to multiple other documents.

And still they failed.

So, I think the Patriots will be under intense and atypically high levels of scrutiny because they remain on Double Secret Probation, but I don't think there will be any more "set ups."

As long as Goodell is the commissioner and he has his Jets gestapo in power and his propaganda machine, the Pats are continually subject to sham violations like the last one. Keep in mind that it was the players association and CBA that saved Brady. When they come after BB as I am sure they will, he doesn't have that protection only the backing of his owner. What the Pats don't need then as they had in 2007 is a pacifist as an owner who doesn't even recognize the enemy.

That was my main point. If they decide to suspend BB that's it, there's basically nothing we can do, except have Kraft try to sue the league on an anti-trust violation. 31 other teams were colluding against him, and if he does that...it will change the league as we know it.

I just posted this in another thread, but I think it may be better suited right here:

So, how long will it be until the "V" word is being used.......as in VACATE their titles.

This will be based on no proof of any cheating (other than taping signals from a no longer approved location), said location was approved up until 2006. Last time I checked, out titles were in the first half of the decade.

So, I repeat, no evidence, no facts, no proof at all, none, it's just not there.

However, the preponderance of accusations must mean it is more likely than not we must have done something, so strip them all.

Watch for it, I really think it's coming.
