Malcolm Butler

Malcolm is on his way to big things. His heart and compete-level are off the charts. He wants it, he knows where he came from and nothing is going to stop him from being a great, #1 corner. He wants it that bad, which is what I love most about Malcolm. His ball issues on a couple of those great throws by Ben were simply small technique things that he'll correct going forward. I am very high on Malcolm, very high...
I agree for the most part. Butler does have the makings to be really good in this league. I do not feel bad about how he played on Thursday night at all. Even BB commented on how he battled all night. That's what you want to see at this stage.

People, let's not forget the dude is an UDFA out of a school that doesn't even have a football program anymore. The fact that he is a starting CB on the defending champs is no small thing. Some people would already feel a sense of "I made it." He has stayed humble and by all accounts continues to work his ass off behind the scenes to become what the organization needs at the position. He is not going to be Revis. Few people can be, and that's why he is regarded by most as the best CB in the game. Give me someone who is not out of position, like Ryan and Fletcher, and someone who competes on every play. That's what Butler does. He will get better and some of those missed pass breakups won't be later in the season. Just watch for improvement, not "shutdown" right now.

He's 1 game in to his second season coming from a division II school. The best coach in nfl history thought he earned the right to be the number 1 corner on the defending super bowl champions.

I was absolutely shocked when I saw the stats - 9 of 10 for over 100 something yards- but he was going against one of the best WR in the league and often in tight coverage. Hell, the first completion he surrendered he was literally in a headlock and Brown made a 1 handed catch. I thought he picked off that td pass.

I'm far more worried about the other cbs than I am thus budding star.

The stats don't tell the story. Butler was in position on most of Browns plays. Brown is simply a superlative player. Butler didn't get burned deep, wasn't caught out of position, didn't whiff on tackles. I found his play perfectly competent.

There was one play in which Brown got a free release in the slot, Malcolm didn't jam him and he picked up a substantial gain. That might have been a situation where he was a little gun-shy in getting up tight. Who knows.

You are spot on. Malcolm WAS in position on almost every play. Brown is elite.

Jeff Howe said that the only CB that could have handled Brown would have been Revis. I'm not so sure about that. Revis is bigger and more physical than Malcolm so that would have helped but I'll speculate that Brown would have hauled in a few on Revis as well. Hes that good.

And prior the the Squealers last drive, Brown had 6 catches for 80 yards. That would have been a decent night for Malcolm.

He played very well, it was just that one play. And it really shouldn't have turned into a long TD. It was a terrible play by Harmon.

Malcolm is going to be a really good player. He is very competitive and is taking on #1 receivers. He has tons of confidence and will only get better.

I think Butler is doing a good job. He's still pretty young and has been asked to take on a huge roll compared to last year, his first in the league. Does he make some mistakes? Yes, but the positives are much better than the negatives. I think he'll continue to improve. I only wish he was a little bit taller, but it is what it is.

Butler being credited with giving up a 50 yard + TD is BS. Good safety play negates that gain to 20 yards.

He was a stud yesterday. I think he's already approaching the non-Revis CB tier in just his 2nd year.

Is there a pattern to all this?

I can never see any of the twitter content you post, it is just a big blank screen for me...anyone else have that problem with Chiuba's posts?

If you're using noscript, you have to unblock twitter in order to see those posts. It's the result of a new feature that Ian installed.

Nope. Are you on a wifi network that is blocking Twitter?

Hmm not using that to my knowledge...but I'll try to find out.

No, and I am not using noscript to my knowledge...But I am using ghostery...

Yep it was ghostery. :)

Are you able to whitelist Patsfans.com in Ghostery? I'm sure Ian would appreciate it!

Considering where he started and where he is now, he is doing a great job. I could care less about the td he and Harmon gave it. We were up about forty points and at that point I just want him and everyone healthy for the next game.

Pretty impressive, really. Now he just needs to take that next step and knock the ball down or intercept it. Still think he can be a top level player in the league.

Imagine if the Pats doled out $40m in guarantees and Revis took himself out of yesterday's game with a hammy?

Rumors of a bad groin....out of shape...lost a step....

This board would melt.
