And now ... Shiftgate! Patriots violate 'unwritten rule'!

Unwritten rules are generally a good thing. Not knowing something is not actually an unwritten rule, and screwing up a play because of that lack of knowledge, is always a bad thing.

It's bizarre, frankly. At the time, the announcers assumed Ben was claiming that the Pats called out a fake snap count. It never occurred to them that a 12-year starting NFL quarterback actually thought line shifts were illegal!

Has the media picked up on this and dealt with Big Ben's comments? Imagine if Brady said a similar thing, how much they would come down on him (though nowhere near as much as BB).

I saw Brady calling for a quick snap when the Steelers forgot to cover Gronk. Very unfair and in violation of fairness and unwritten codes of conduct like the NFL boy scout code of fair play. I expect next time Brady will point it out to the opposing team and not hurry so much. Maybe there should be an on field ref to help the other team figure out what play the Pats are about to run.

Great play by the rookie center to execute that quick snap properly. Well coached.

The Pats are not the only team that does it by a long shot. The Steelers seem to want to blame the Patriots for last night's loss rather than take personal responsibility.

One question. Has anyone read the unwritten rule book to see what kind of the punishment the Pats' might expect?

You know, I put it down right here, but i can't find it. Maybe the unwriting has taken over and made it unvisible.

Ben must have been taking a nap during the film session below.

Left guard Ramon Foster, who also moved on the play, confirmed the Steelers had seen it on film and players were told it’s legal, provided the Patriots don’t cross the line of scrimmage.

sorry pats nation, what is the best / hard core steeler forum ?
thx in advance (behind enimy lines)

Maybe Dr. Phil can have a show each week where he interviews the latest team to lose to the Patriots, and he can re-assure them that their lives still have value.
OMG, that's hilarious...! :)

Not only do the patriots violate written rules, but they violate rules that don't exist!! I can't stand those no good dirty cheats!!!!

ATTENTION STEELER FANS: Lambert's Dress Shop is holding a Free Dress or Skirt offer for the rest of September during their "Put a Dress On Them " yearly special. Bring your used tissues for your free dress or skirt and use the code word "cry" for big savings.

Just tell them Mikey sent you.

Better yet, do us all a favor and turn some of your terrible towels into burkas.

Personally, I am LOVING all this because it's making the rest of the league look delusional in their paranoia about the Pats. How much more ridiculous and overblown does Deflategate look when you also have the Pats being blamed for NFL-maintained communication devices malfunctioning and completely legal shifts being painted as cheating? This is GREAT.

Not to mention they violate future rules that aren't in effect today. But, I guess the competition committee should be renamed to competition and anti-patriot committee (i.e. Declaring ineligible)

How Roethlisburger, a future HOF'er, has never seen a defensive line shift is beyond me. Maybe too many hits to the head.

Remember the part in Belichicks A Football Life where he explains the risk/reward of trying to get offsides when near the end zone to a player? Apparently other teams don't go over this. If the Pats jump offside then they'd be penalized inches. Stay in your stance morons.

I think Ben was just caught up in the moment. He is so use to screaming 'shutup and stop moving' that it just slipped out!

Sounds like Roethlisberger should have played baseball.

well..to be fair... Bug Ben DID win Rape-A-Date five years running...so he'll always have THAT
