Not really, it says "Every team's game day communications personnel are REQUIRED to work with "NFL communications consultants" to ensure wireless equipment is free and clear of interference and address any problems."

It's basically saying, at least how I'm taking it, that our team communications expert works hand in hand with the NFL communications consultant.

If any issues arise, they both have to work together to fix it. If the Pats had messed with the headphones, the NFL's communications consultants would have known about it. If they were found doing anything illegal by the consultant, the NFL would have said so already. They've said the contrary, and in fact they've said these issues have happened in "many stadiums around the league". In fact the Steelers stadium had these same type of issues in the AFCCG between the Jets and Steelers. Jets were having issues with their headsets.

You are correct, but the phrasing deliberately opens the door just enough to give the speculation credibility. If the NFL wanted to, though could easily have said something more strenuous, of simply let the earlier statement stand.

Welp, I may be wrong. (Sadly, this happens from time to time.) If Pitt actually does file a complaint, and that article stays up as written, then yeah, it's an accusation. I personally think that's a large logic leap, to assume intent when there are other, more likely explanations out there.

As far as not clarifying goes, I don't know that enough time necessarily has elapsed for him to even be asked about it (has he even been subjected to another media event since late last night?) Obviously if they file a formal complaint, there's your answer.

Gee, Lloyd, I must say I'm disappointed in you. I've heard this conversation somewhere before......oh yeah:

I'm sure that we've all noticed that the NFL referees never have any problems with their microphones, right?

So obviously, electronic equipment, outdoors, in a pouring rain, always works!

Fair enough. It's still a mighty fine line, though. If the situations were reversed, do you think BB would even mention the headsets in his presser, let alone so early on with such ferocity?

Nope, not at all, BB's a cool cat post-game. (I mentioned this in another thread -- you guys are very fortunate and unique with your coach, QB, and organization...no one else has a BB).

Tomlin is normally a pretty cool customer himself re/keeping his emotions in check, but he was clearly bent way out of shape over this (whatever "this" actually is). Last night wasn't a good look for him IMO, regardless of what he was and wasn't actually trying to say. Staying calm in the storm is part of a coach's job description.

I'll make a general point here: we have tremendous and maybe unreasonable expectations for NFL coaches and players and how they interact with media. It's a group that is by and large insanely competitive -- and frankly, not necessarily Rhodes scholars when it comes to logic. But we pretty much expect them to be 100% reasonable, 100% unbiased, 100% of the time...when in fact given their temperament and background we should probably expect them to be completely biased and unreasonable most of the time. I'm less shocked by controversial statements when they leak out, than the fact that most coaches and players keep a lid on this stuff as consistently as they do.

LOL you had to figure Microsoft was groaning when "Surface Pro" and "Microsoft" logos were plastered across millions of TV screens in America while the announcers were talking about equipment malfunctions.

Hell. Lloyd, even Patriots haters like the MCI can see Tomlin's remarks for what they were:

Come on, Mike Tomlin. If you're going to accuse the #Patriots, just own it

How many Gates are there going to be!

MCI=Metally Challenged Intern

Oh, he may not have stepped over that line, but he quite clearly backed up against it. And Pitt's further tantrum only reinforces it, as you say below.
And this is the coach that was on the field, over the line during a Ravens punt return and came inches from hitting the player.....but no, he wouldn't push the line to far would he?

Again, go watch/listen to the tape.
Deus -- I've seen the tape from last night, and most of his pressers generally.

I'm saying 1) I don't see where he is blaming the loss on the headsets and 2) he is historically pretty blunt in his assessments of the performance of his team, his coaching staff, and himself. I think if you were a fly on a wall in the Steelers' meeting rooms this morning, you'd hear Tomlin and a bunch of coaches talking about how they were outcoached and outplayed. I think that if the media asked him point blank why Pittsburgh lost, he would not answer "headsets" but rather they were outplayed and outcoached, and that several units were "below the line".

Just my opinion though.

Headset problems are always happening when I'm watching games, it's usually just a little side comment by announcers "They seem to be having headset problems down there".

What a complete joke this is, I'm glad it happened. "The patriots cheat" has officially jumped the shark.

Is that the left shark or the right one?

Sheesh they are worse crybabies than the Colts. A lot worse actually. o_O

Sorry to disappoint shmessy!

Sorry, who is the MCI?

Its the reporter who wrote the tweet. A guy who used to cover the Dolphins but now works for a Boston paper. Takes shots at the Patriots often, and on a number of occasions made some bad errors. Therefore nickname is the MCI

That's uncalled for. Lillloyd has been very courteous throughout this last week. He's not whining, and he's just adding some perspective to Tomlin's comments.
Thanks for the backup -- but it's fine, really. :) I don't expect to wander onto another team's board without these sort of comments cropping up from time to time (in fact, it would be strange if it didn't! "fan" is short for "fanatic" after all ;)

The reality is I really enjoy myself on this board -- the discussions are intelligent and informed, and typically very civil, even when there's disagreement like in the current thread.

Ah, got it. Yeah I thought he was a Boston beat reporter, hence the confusion.

So 5 teams have complained about the communication system at Gillette.

This type of crap is going to go on this entire season every game. We just need to roll with it.

Lets Go Pats

So at work today I was not online and I am just trying to catch up.

what did I miss?
