Schefter on Mike & Mike: The league absolutely asked the Pats to suspend M&J

This, I think, is where you answer your own question. And why they would be better off to just stay out of the reinstatement altogether, so they can deny culpability in a lawsuit. But they've probably already blown that.

Yea I think I know the answer. I'm just looking for some validation

I'm sure the league's position is that the Patriots can reinstate the employees but that they cannot go near footballs.

Are they going to eliminate the video of this segment or just dub over his words and insert something else?
as adamant as Goddell was that they didn't tell them to, I'm as adamant that they did
as adamant as Goddell was that they didn't tell them to, I'm agreeable that they did

Seem close enough for BSPN spin control and it had to be some type of video lag that makes Schefters mouth look different than the words he spoke...sorry for the inconvenience.

Is that segment online?

You know the Pats have to be sitting on the email from the league ordering their suspension. I think it's almost time to pull the pin off that grenade and let that one fly.

I thought all of their segments were packaged up, but we'll see if this one makes it. Probably has to be run up the chain and await Goodell's response.

The NFL has to fear a suit by McNally and Jastremski. They are non union, non public people who have been falsely accused of participating in a cheating scheme. The NFL has made wild and unsubstantiated accusations against them publicly and these guys can sue in Federal court out of Massachusetts. Their lawyers can conduct discovery and seek all the details and communications regarding the incident and investigation. The NFL is a big fat juicy target here that has shown they are totally incompetent.

Can you imagine discovery against Kensil, Goodell, Vincent, Pash, Gardi, Wells etc...? Also how many NFL owners communications regarding Deflategate would also get rolled up in this.
I agree. I'm assuming people have been offering them decent money for their stories while this story is still hot. This follows with my assumption they are keeping quiet on advice of council in case they decide to sue. In any case, I think they are going to fill their wallets in one way or another and I'm hoping they do. They deserve it.

Did Mike and Mike challenge Schefter unlike the pre-approved softballs that they tossed at Goodell. Greenberg trashed the League on the whole Deflategate thing and smooched Goodell's arse so much his lips were brown when he interviewed Goodell.

I'm beginning to think Goodell might be a little dishonest.

*note- my phone auto-corrected "Goodell might be a little dishonest" to "Goodell might be a lot dishonest."
My new one corrected it to " Goodell is a f@*king liar"

I actually kind of like Mike and Mike as people, but I think they're forced to do whatever the network says and say what the network tells them to say at all times. Occasionally you'll see one of them stray, only to be brought back to the pack quickly.

I can't say I blame them considering how much money they must make since their show is immensely popular, but it's still sad.

This goes for most employees of that network it seems. It would appear the only one who has enough respect in the industry and isn't afraid to go against the grain there is Schefter.

Huh?
How do we KNOW that?
Given Bob Kraft's state of mind at the time he very likely could have been proactive and suspended the guys to appease his pal the Commissioner. This is the owner who called a press conference saying he accepted the punishment of loss of a #1 pick and a #4 pick when his franchise did nothing aside from following the laws of physics.
Alternatively, the league office in a rare moment of foresight could have simply phoned the Patriots demanding their suspension knowing that calls cannot legally be recorded without consent.

Agreed. Although the NFL office has done a million stupid things with Deflategate surely they would at least know enough to not send an E-mail asking that the guys be suspended.

At my workplace, I would never, ever, ever put anything sensitive in an E-Mail, especially something personnel (hiring and firing) related. Never put anything in an E-Mail that you wouldn't want to be read by your employer (or published in the newspaper).

You may well be right. Remember, though, that this is the same NFL that originally insisted they hadn't given Brady a 4 hour limit for his appeal ,when Schefter had the hard copy proof of it

This whole thing seems like an argument over semantics. NFL strongly implies to Kraft that the equipment guys should be suspended, Kraft does so to be cooperative, then later the NFL throws around the term "non-cooperation" and says they never asked Kraft to suspend them, BUT Kraft needs to ask for their permission to reinstate them.

This is what the NFL front office is. They strong-arm you into doing what they want because you're afraid of the consequences if you don't, then you get the consequences dropped on you anyway.

As an aside, imagine if a young Al Davis were still an owner in Roger Goodell's NFL. What a circus that would be.

I think semantic parsing is precisely what is going on and what happened.
A semantics issue q.v. the meaning of is.

That was an early crack in the dam leaking NYJFL perfidy out to where many could see.
Stupid people can be relied upon to make unforced errors.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were paid off.

Well if anyone ever goes after the NFL* for their transgressions against Brady, JJ or McNally, I'll be thankful they aren't as smart as you. I imagine their arrogance would make them think they are untouchable (I'll submit their position -- via JFB-- on the punishment as documentation my position).
