That Arrington contract is embarrassing. 3 mil to cut him? FFS.

It's like ripping off a bandaid though. We have a lot of dead cap money right now that will clear up next year, which should help extend Solder, Hightower, Collins and Jones (I hope)

Why do you find that horrifying? 3 guys Mayo, Cannon and Amendola are overpaid, who else do you see as bad deals?

In Mayos defense, he was getting paid fairly for his play until he had those back to back injured seasons

2016’s cap is looking horrifying:

Tom Brady-$15,000,000.00
Jerod Mayo-$11,400,000.00
Devin McCourty-$8,000,000.00
Chandler Jones-$7,799,000.00
Dont'a Hightower-$7,751,000.00
Sebastian Vollmer-$7,023,834.00
Jabaal Sheard-$7,000,000.00
Danny Amendola-$6,866,666.00
Rob Gronkowski-$6,650,000.00
Julian Edelman-$5,156,250.00
Marcus Cannon-$4,816,668.00
Rob Ninkovich-$4,750,000.00
Stephen Gostkowski-$4,100,000.00

The ones in bold are likely to be reworked in some capacity (extension, pay reduction, or released) depending on the player.

Missing from this post is some context.

Even with the bolded contracts Patriots have 44 players with a total cap committment of $136m. Projected cap is $154M. I expect the Patriots adjusted cap to be even higher with a 2 million credit from Gronk. Not sure how a team that I project to be under the cap and with a few contracts that are going to be easy to take care can have a horrifying cap picture.

Until Cap $ = Actual $, your argument is, and will remain, nonsensical.
So what is the ultimate correlation between Cap money and real money - about 99+ percent? Not sure where you're going with this.

As for Alan Branch, cutting him saves only $1.4M before his replacement, which is a minimum of $435K, so it would be less than $1M savings..
I'll take it.
