@MikeReiss: Patriots have informed second-year OT Cameron Fleming that he is being released. Opens roster spot for DT Khyri Thornton, claimed on waivers

Cam did have a pretty bad preseason. I guess M. Williams beat him out for that 6th lineman role. Cam to ps?

Surprised - very surprised. They must really like Andrews.

Fleming had a rough spring, but he was a contributor last year.

This is a surprise. Would think he'd be added to the PS if he passes through waivers which I suspect he will.

Are we a little tackle poor? I tend to assume BB knows what he's doing, so Cannon and the starters healthy and able, or a tackle pickup on the way?

You know the depth chart better than me if you see another tackle who could backup both spots [I am confident Vollmer could play LT for a while, but that's awful thin at a key spot.

Williams is a project, not a solution, right?

Just learned of this now. You gotta be feckin kidding me.

Let me get this straight, Bill the Genius (snicker):
Marcus Cannonfodder was garbage last season, so you re-sign him to a non-cuttable extension;
You keep a short, small, weak, non-athletic Center-only UDFA whom no other team would want and
was given one of the largest signing bonuses post-draft;
You re-sign the fat, lazy, ineffective slob Branch in the off-season whose contract is now on the verge
of being guaranteed;
You claim an over-drafted (by almost 2 full rounds) DT with effort "issues" and who has zero regular-
season tape on which to base an opinion of his fit here…
…and it's Cam Fleming who is waived? Un-feckin-believable.

The Thornton signing reminds me of the Bruce Gaston and Kelcy Quarles signings last year. I'm guessing he is just in for a look-see and will likely be cut within the next week or 2.

Well, dang. That was a big surprise to me.

The last couple of days I've been banging the drum on my brilliant (in my own mind) NonKnuckleHead Theory, that says that after all of his accomplishments BB is slowing culling the knuckleheads on his roster and adding smart, professional guys that are, you know, fun to coach. When they cut Gray I thought: "See! see! I was right!!"

Then they cut one of the most intelligent and smart guys on the team (at least when it comes to book smarts), the guy with the Stanford B.S. degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering profiled on Grantland: http://grantland.com/features/cameron-fleming-stanford-nf-draft/

I guess BB could still be collecting smart professionals.... but he just cut one of the smartest. I guess it is back to the drawing board. :confused:

Maybe BB thought: "so...this football novice Chris is trying to explain my moves, saying I'm collecting smart players, huh? I'll show that idiot a thing or two" :D

Hopefully Belichick has done as terrible a job of assembling the team as you claimed did with last years Super Bowl winner .

You simply never learn.

Captain,

Let's hope Stork is back at practice tomorrow, I'm like you and do not want to see Andrews starting at center this thursday. In fact, I don't want to see him at center at all. lol Also surprised at Flemming being cut, I'm guessing Mason is going to take that 6th OL role.

You get more and more ridiculous with each post. Go root for a team you can support and criticize with some justification to your hearts content, like the Jets or a team of your choice. Or maybe follow another sport such as Tiddlywinks since it pretty obvious you know nothing about football.

I don't like this move, 4th round draft pick, from Stanford, played with Andrew Luck in college, was part of a championship run, I would think they could get something out of him or at least a trade for a low pick when starter tackles around the league start to go down with injuries, anyway, gotta trust BB.

Very disappointing, 4th round pick a year ago. This guy must have really dropped the ball. It stinks to see our team completely fail on a 4th rounder that early in his career.

Understanding the disappointment, but credit BB with recognizing a mistake and moving on. He is rarely wrong about players he lets go.
