Patriots "Actively" looking to trade for Big Bodied WR

We stink at drafting WRs anyways. So at least we can be assured that we didn't draft another Taylor Price. I dunno, why is the Pats scouting department so bad at picking that one position? We seem very good to above average at finding players in other positions.

One of the subtle things I took from the Reggie Wayne experiment was how difficult it is to master the Pats offense combined with the fact that playing for the Pats (at any position) is HARD, harder than for most teams. By all accounts, Wayne was a good guy, a smart guy, and a hard working guy; yet he didn't find short experience with the Pats to be easy OR fun. So when we look at people and want to fit them in to the Patriots' puzzle, it's best to remember that this experience isn't for everyone and even if it is, the learning curve is steep.

BB has had weeks to plan for this season knowing Tyms and Gibson were gone, and sizing up not only his receiving corps and others. He likely knew over a month ago that LaFell was going to be on the PUP and what we see is likely what we get.

I think this entire rumor that the Pats are looking for a big receiver is way overblown. The odds of someone being available us at this point, coming in and being a significant contributor THIS season is slim and none. BB is always looking at other team's rosters for players, but I doubt very much he's looking for a WR in particular. RB would be more likely.

Steelers have back to back drafted good receivers in Bryant and Coates it can be done.
I hope this is sarcastic because Coates can't even beat our heyward-bey. A 9 year old could figure out the steelers offense, does not mean Bryant would have the same success here

Perhaps. We have all bit hard on the reported story that Wayne found the Pats' system and work ethic to be difficult, and this surprised him and was a factor in his decision. We should be very careful, given what has happened to Brady recently with bits of misinformation that became truth, and remain truth, in so many minds.

My guess is that Wayne just underestimated how old and tired he is, and how difficult it would be to learn a new system (anyone's system), and that the combination meant that retirement made more sense.

BUT, I still haven't seen a report that says he retired. That he and the Pats agreed to part ways, yes. The retired part is still rumor, as far as I know.

Not that I don't disagree he may not be a fit for the offense but BB got a up close and personal view I wonder where in the discussion he was

Coates' first priority should be getting higher than #5 on the depth chart so he's not a healthy scratch week 5 when Bryant is back. Not a good sign when Roethlisberger is specifically asked about Coates and he instead chooses to talk about Heyward-Bey.

There's no guarantee they (BB and Caserio) went to the Auburn pro day to watch Coates. I think it just as likely they went to look at their two DTs Wright and Blackson. It's certainly possible they were there for Coates.

Think I saw Colts released Vincent Brown. Not sure what his health situation is but he looked good in SD and they had high hopes until injury bug hit.

But they definitely need a body until Lafell gets back. Boyce's departure could be brief.

Kyed says the new #15 practicing is a big WR. We just don't know his name yet. Presumably a practice squad guy.

Well Kenbrell is back, but only on the practice squad. Does that mean they anticipate someone additional for the 53?

You think Chandler Jones is a reasonable price? Yikes.

I didn't say that :p I don't think it is a horrible price and i think if you were hoping to get a guy like Nelson for much less you are probably dreaming. Jones is a good player but seems to have issues staying healthy and never quite lived up to his promise considering the talent he had. Still a very solid DE who has 1 cheap year left.

Now would i make this trade? No. I want to win this year and Jones helps with that while Nelson does not. Would i feel like we were robbed if this happened? No. I would not.

Still I feel if you trade Jones for anything you do it for a comparable CB.

But he didn't know that Reggie Wayne wasn't going to work out.

You think we might see some two (shifty) RB sets? Do those optimally need to be combined with at least one deep-threat receiver?

I think a set with two massive TEs, two tiny RBs and Edelman, with any one of the 5 in motion at any given time, is a nightmare set to match up against.
