Is Bill gonna part ways with a medium-to-high value player this season?

As it is, we're pretty thin at the WR and CB positions. And there's a rumor going around that the team is looking for a big-bodied wide receiver.

As it is, they are currently 10 OL players on the roster. So I have to believe that someone from that position is gonna get traded.

What's your prediction?

IMO we have a lot of Safeties, Defensive Ends and Offensive Linemen. I don't think it will stay that way.

My guess is Chandler Jones could be traded. He's a free agent next year (and DEs are expensive to re-sign) and we loaded up on DE's in the offseason and draft. And of the positions we're well stocked at, C. Jones would bring the biggest return. Except for maybe Solder and I just don't see the depth at LT to trade him.

People in their last yr of contracts or potential contract squabble issues are targets.

People keep saying to trade Jones because the Pats won't be able to afford him next year, but then they suggest trading him for players that would do nothing to solve that problem and in many cases would make it worse. Unless there's another cap-clearing move, the Pats are severely limited in who they can trade for, even if they're giving up a good player. I'm just not seeing it right now.

One cool thing i noticed since talking about jones - how BB has moved from warren, wilfork, seymour all first rounders to easley, brown and jones.

Per Miguel, they save less than $200K by trading Jones.

Jones is a FA in 2017... He's under contract for next season (they picked up his 5th year option)

Perhaps no spectacular trade is made.

BTW, here are the players who will cost the Patriots money if traded this season:

  • GRONK
  • Mayo
  • McCourty
  • Gostkowski
  • Easley
  • Garoppolo
  • Richards

Vollmer might be a possibility. 31 years old and coming off a SB win and playing in 15 games. He played 6 games in 2011 and 8 games in 2013. We showed that we can get by without him. Volmer is one of the best RT in the game so he might fetch a great deal in a trade.

Vollmer (31 in July) had surgeries on chronic bad back (in college & NFL), knee issues, scary broken leg, and now shoulder surgery.

Vollmer started 15 regular-season games and every playoff contest during the Pats' run to the Super Bowl this past season, and he did so while dealing with a labrum injury in his shoulder.

According to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss, the 30-year-old lineman underwent surgery following New England's championship triumph, and while there is no timetable for his return, Reiss notes there is "optimism" that he'll be good to go for the 2015 campaign.

As pointed out by Pat Thorman of Pro Football Focus, this shoulder injury is the latest in a long line of afflictions Vollmer has dealt with since college:

Mankins

It worked last year, so they'll try it again.

for a team that's right at the cap we only have 3 guys making more than 2.5m salary -- that's pretty amazing

Are you sure that's right? That's very hard to believe. Brady, Edelman, Gronk, probably Dmac, Mayo maybe? Think LaFell makes about 3.

here it is

brady, gronk, and solder --- and solder might even drop if extended.
although, we're just talking straight salary for this yr

the point being there's not a lot of meat on there to cut that might make a 'surprise trade' like mankins.
guys like gronk or brady would be such a surprise I'd probably stroke out on hearing the news, and after that it gets down to maybe a chung or wendell, who save a million or two.

maybe vollmer, or solder, I guess, but that seems a little sketchy.
I guess some guy like hightower, maybe, just due to impendiing fa?
