NFL owners to discuss changing Goodell's role in disciplinary process

Goodell was never one to take half measures....no half measures should be taken with him. The owners need to go Odin on his worthless, corrupt ass!!!

Florio brings the heat:

"The NFL has earned the inherent lack of trust since 2012, from: (1) imposing cap penalties on Dallas and Washington for contracts executed in the uncapped year that were approved when filed to (2) trumping up “bounty” charges against the Saints based on players getting a modest amount of cash for the application of clean, legal hits that they already had an incentive to apply to (3) ignoring the fact that other teams had been using “bounties” for years (including teams coached by former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, the mastermind of the bounty scandal) to (4) hiring an outside lawyer to provide the patina of legitimacy to an investigation which found in part that Anthony Hargrove shouted “Bobby, give me my money!” when closer inspection of the audio and video is conclusive at best to (5) a second suspension of Ray Rice that clearly violated his rights under the CBA to (6) the manipulation of league policies to keep Adrian Peterson off the field for the 2014 stretch run against the Vikings because someone apparently had decided in September that Peterson wouldn’t be playing again this year to (7) the sudden abandonment of a 95-year history of not paying any attention to the air pressure in footballs in the apparent hopes of catching the Patriots cheating to (8) the complete lack of any understanding that the air pressure in footballs decreases on cold days to (9) the leak of grossly false air-pressure information to a pair of prominent journalists in order to create a national presumption of cheating to (10) the failure to correct that blatantly false information to (11) the hiring of a lawyer for an “independent” investigation that clearly wasn’t independent to (12) the review of the “independent” investigator’s report by the league’s general counsel to (13) the refusal to make the league’s general counsel answer questions about his role to (14) suspending Tom Brady for “general awareness” of an equipment violation, in violation of the CBA and the “law of the shop” to (15) expressing righteous indignation over Brady “destroying” his phone in the hopes of swaying public opinion against him to (16) attempting to suspend Brady for obstructing an investigation even though no player had ever been suspended for obstructing an investigation, the findings and conclusions of the league office as currently constructed on matters of discipline cannot be accepted at face value."

The downfall begins, and snowballs...

The NFL Constitution and Bylaws, Article VI , Section 6.5 G provides the method and Goodell's actions provides the means.

I'm reminded of Humphrey Bogart as the USS Caine's Captain kneading his ball bearings and cracking up in an interview.

I'm not sure what point there is to reducing Goodell's power vs players. If I were Goodell I would just dock 1st round picks for every player infraction since it seems like teams cannot fight it. If he were smart (he's not) he would have fined Brady 25k along with the penalties to the Patriots.

Hmmm that would be just under $5million per owner. Money well spent if you ask me.

No kidding.

Bob spends that on Viagra.

Paul Allen drops that filling up his boat for a spin around Puget Sound

Jerry Jones spends that on face lifts.

Bob McNair spends that on batteries for his Lark

Woody Johnson spends that on hats for is stupid, classless wife.

Biscotti spends that on govt bribes and mafia shylock payments

Irsay spends that on Oxy and condos for his beeitches

See? If they just tighten their belts a little, they can make it happen!

The players should strike in 2016 until the owners replace Goodell. I would sacrifice an entire season to get rid of this clown - he's been that bad.

So they force the owner to "throw out the bum" simply to be replaced by a new bum?

Better to push for a neutral 3rd party review IMO.

19-24 owners. Might take a while, but eventually he'll go. He won't change and he's killing the league, which means $$$, which is the only thing all owners understand.

All the cable outlets are going to be looking to renegotiate, because somebody signed them to contracts that are going to kill them. Do you think dunderhead can handle that?

Let's look at past history how Herr Kommissar Goodell was the dealmaker in the last TV contract.
Oh, wait! You tell me that Robert Kraft brokered that deal?
All righty then, no problem because Mr "Please Sir, May I Have Another" will beg for one more chance to ingratiate himself with the Commissioner and the other 31 whose company is so very important to him. "This time", Bob tells himself, "This time they'll REALLY respect me!"

So the article in this thread was written the 1st week of SEPTEMBER and it says,
"A time table for such discussions among the owners remains unclear. Their next scheduled meeting is in October."

So, anything happen? I think not. Much ado about nothing.

I'm not sure even the owners are sleazy enough to fire him for doing exactly what they wanted.
Oh, of course they are. They do that and they're media darlings again.

What the owners don't realize is that Goodell is sowing the seeds of discontent. These things don't necessarily spring up over night and you feel a sudden drop. The insidious nature of the vexed start small and like any movement involving human nature spread slowly, but steadily across time.

By the time the owners have realized their product is failing, it will be in downward trend that will take years to turnaround (and that's if they do everything right). there's already plenty of tailwinds that can take down the sport (CTE, parents may already be telling their children not to play football, cannibalizing one fan base to support the rest). Perhaps they know this and are squeezing every last cent out of us before it goes away.

Somehow, I doubt in their arrogance they would even admit this to themselves. Like they say in football, "next man up", they feel that the next fan will fall in when one leaves. Right now, they are right when it comes to filling the stadiums. But, nothing lasts forever. Especially those things people don't care for.

Yeah and Sep blatter is going to step down from fifa

Let there be news: NFL, NFLPA having ‘the right conversations’ about player-discipline accord, DeMaurice Smith says

I have no idea,” Smith said. “Whether there’s going to be a resolution of this or a resolution of that before the Super Bowl — all I’m saying is, I can’t imagine the owners, any owner, thinking it’s a great idea to be talking about commissioner discipline while you want to promote the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl. I don’t think there’s any owner who thought it was a really good thing for us to be discussing the first half of the AFC championship game when we were kicking off the season.”

Good idea, because the players will be ready to strike over the next CBA.

No more Bob Kraft hugging Jeff Saturday. The threat or reality of a long strike is the only way to get rid of Goodell and the Jetsnation at 345 Park and really change things.

Question.

Will we as fans support them this time or just assail them, like we did last time, as greedy, overpaid jocks for threatening to strike over the basic rights that Goodell tried to deny to Tom Brady?

I think we should all think about it. Are we willing to lose a season for the players to get Justice?

An organization that frequently refers to integrity, has no integrity..

Appointing a third party to oversee discipline would remove an "appearance of impropriety" on the part of the NFL and make it seem fairer than it is now.. a person(s) who could whisper in Goodell's ear "you got nothing move on"..

The reason why they lose so many is because they do not take care of the legal processes involved and get sloppy, i.e. rush to judgement.

I can only speak for myself, but when I drop the NFL it will be for my peace of mind, not to send a message or to have an impact on their profits, which is doubtful.

In spite of having baseball in my blood as a child and spending years coaching the game, I dropped MLB almost two decades ago and have never looked back. The only times I used to even talk about it was when I wanted to make a point to one of my youth teams about how not to do something on the baseball field. Manny was one of my favorite topics.

The same is true of the NBA. When David Stern was asked about alienating the fans in the US by smugly proclaiming that "there are other fans" then that was the time for me to go. That was easier though because the game had already deteriorated to a 3 point shooting contest and the players were being encouraged to slack off during the season to be ready for the playoffs.

In each case I felt better about myself for not supporting the game even though they still turned profits. With all of the bs going on with the NFL these days, I will probably feel better about myself when I dump them too.
