In his career, Gostkowski averages about 86% of his kicks.

Based on the game thread, I looked up 4th quarter and OT for kicks when the game was within 7. In those situations, he's 42 for 45, or 93%.

And for his career 4th Q and OT, he's 76 for 79.

Sounds like Vinateri, only with more accuracy in non-clutch situations, as well as longer kickoffs.

I think he makes 100% of his kicks. I've not seen him swing and miss at a football.

Now, if you're talking making FG's and PA's then 86% sounds about right.

Haha. Seriously, though, IIRC he's only missed one XP in his entire career, but he's 86% on FGs.

Shoulda let him try in 42 Bill

That distance wasn't automatic, and he's gotten significantly better over the years.

And if a miss had proven the difference between winning and losing . . . it would probably have ended his career, at least as a Patriot.

I can only recall one time when Gostkowski missed a clutch FG - that was in 2012 against the Cardinals. Maybe I've forgotten another. But he is almost always money when the pressure is on.

The guy has been terrific.

Really, the only thing that prevents him from getting the reputation that he really deserves is that he's never won a playoff game at the last second.

Thanks for this!

A few years ago, after his injury season, people were wondering if he was losing accuracy. But he's come back stronger. This pre-season he's looked better than ever.

Missed one at the end of the 09 Ravens playoff game that would have cut it to two scores I believe. Not that it would have mattered much anyways.

At the last second, no, but he is one of only two rookie Ks to make a game-winning playoff kick.
