GQ: Goodell must go. Now.

doesn't explain the pathological lying since high school. Why have his two older brothers remained in complete radio silence about their ginger haired little no hope dopey brother? Why has his gay brother in LA savagely rebuked Roger and Roger's lack of morals and character in published media? Roger Goodell is a vainglorious megalomaniac being used by billionaires to front for their incredibly self perpetuating cash cow, the NFL. He's that suspicious mole that has blown up into full blown melanoma. A cancerous ,cantakerous cretin given free reign to burn the ants in his little farm with a magnifying glass.

"The second-youngest brother, Michael Goodell, is a Pilates instructor in the Los Angeles area. His longtime partner, Jack Kenny, is a Hollywood writer and producer known for creating the short-lived NBC series "The Book of Daniel," a controversial show loosely inspired by the Goodell family."

here's the propped up interview of Mike years back, obviously spun up by ol' Rog, about how "if it weren't for Roger protecting me from bullies"...odd that the commish hardly remembers...
During an with an interview with the commissioner, I read Michael’s words to him. Roger Goodell teared up. “Ha,” he says, sniffling, not able to say much else. “That’s the first time I heard that. I didn’t know it had much impact on him.” What a great guy Rog is!!...why, just ask him!

In high school, Goodell — a three sport captain at Bronxville (N.Y.) High — enforced the type of player conduct code that he would later create as the commissioner of the NFL. At Bronxville, athletes were required to sign pledges that they would not drink or otherwise get into trouble. They hated when Goodell showed up to a party. “All of a sudden it was like an alarm went off,” says Michael. “They were running out of the back door as he was coming in the front door. It was like Prohibition.”what a freaking crock. Read the next paragraph and try to reconcile that with this.Preposterous...all PR lies by the Scumbagdell

Roger excelled in sports, but he was far from the polished presences we see today. In high school, Goodell rarely hit the books. “He was a big dumb jock,” says Michael. “He played that up. He was walking around in his letter jacket, with his girlfriend on his arm and stuff. He was big man on campus.” Michael laughs. “And one of the things we used to tease him about, he just used to grunt. You know, ‘hey, Rog, how are you today? ‘Grrrr.'” Goodell cops to his academic ambivalence — though in college, he took school more seriously, and thrived. But he says he doesn’t remember the grunting. Though a couple of NFL staffers say it sounds familiar. “He just wears a different jacket now,” says one. but yeah, ol Rog was a veritable Cyrano DeBergerac when he went out partying...right...this is so facking transparent and ridiculous one would think it was written by...Peter King...nah, couldn't be

We disagree about Goodell's basic character. I see him as a true believing crusader who considers himself the only logical arbiter of righteousness, now that he's the commissioner, and that seems to be a common understanding of the man in general circles.

I don't believe he can hold the job and be as stupid as you're suggesting. I think he has to be smart enough to know that what he's saying and doing is dishonest.

Admittedly, the article Joker dredged up gives me some pause, as do the articles about him being unable to keep his temper in negotiations, except through the expedient of running out of the room.

Nothing in what you quoted from me refers to Goodell's intelligence.

One can draw the inference that he believes what he's doing is right. I don't see how he can believe that without holding very stupid opinions.

Character is not the same as intelligence, and neither is psychological makeup.

Drew Margary is hands down the best sports writer alive in America right now. He writes the "Why Your Team Sucks" columns for Deadspin, just one of the cleverest wordsmiths out there.

As someone posted last week, he came from a very well connected family
( his father a Congressman and appointed to the U.S. senate to fill the seat of Bobby Kennedy after Kennedy was assassinated ) and the best school they could get him in to was Washington and Jefferson??? I'm betting his SAT scores were in the 400s....
Palinesque.......

He's an idiot, not a coward, he's been standing up for what he believes is right, he's just too arrogant and ignorant to see that he's an idiot. He's not backing down because he thinks he's right.

Are you kidding me? Abusing a position of authority is nothing more than bullying. All bullies are cowards.

Maybe he really is stupid enough to believe his own bullsh*t. But saying he has a backbone is giving him way too much credit. He thought he had the law and public opinion on his side when he decided to pick on a weak target (Kraft). Pretty perverse to construe that as bravery.

Goondell needs to go and IMO the owners will see this ...

If nothing else it will be a great PR move to can Goondell and halt his appeals ... all of them.

Loved this line...

"Goodell's sole methodology of leadership is to be an intractable ****. He has no other moves in his repertoire. He doesn't learn. He doesn't know when to quit."

So true...

Based on what he has made, a Goodell buyout -- should owners want him out -- could cost about $150M. His contract expires in March 2019

Looks like Goodell isn't going anywhere. Obviously the hypocritical NFL only signs contracts with partially guaranteed money with the players. Goodell will continue to be a part of our lives for four more years and probably many more after that. He's not the only hard-headed ******* with authority in the NFL.

Obviously I don't have access to his contract. But practically every c-suite level contract has termination for cause language that allows them to get away with paying nothing. And an arbitration clause to settle a dispute on it, although Goodell won't get to be the arbitrator on this one.... In short, I think it's possible they could fire him for cause and not owe him a dime (just have to pay the legal fees to settle the dispute).

Been saying it for years. He should've been fired after the "Replacement Refs" thing. He's screwed up over and over again. He's weak minded, people don't respect him, and he has no leadership skills.

A true leader wouldn't have "leaks" coming out from their office. If they did have leaks, a true leader wouldve made sure those FALSE leaks wouldve been corrected immediately…. But nope. Goodell is a beta male, follower, yes-man. Worst commissioner in sports history.
That he wasn't fired after the Ray Rice debacle tells you all you need to know about NFL owners. Kraft being a l0ud supporter of Goodell after that event tells you where his head is, we all like to dump on Tony Massorati on here, but he was has been spot on, when it comes to this issue. He is right to say that Goodell lost all credibility after the Ray Rice incident, that the people whom he works for hasn't replaced him a year later, and are all over the press supporting him tells you a lot about the owners of the NFL.

RG is a spoiled, entitled rich kid who never had anyone say no to him so he doesn't know how to cope with it except to throw a tantrum.

If Goodell wanted to be a tyrant he should have been consistent..

I want to say the human quality is worse today then in the Rozelle days.. They used to be all college grads playing.. So it was easier to govern the league..

Now, it's gangbangers galore.. And you need to pick And choose your battles.. Going after one of the league's most marketable players is not the way to go about it.. Especially without concrete evidence,,

He already took a first rounder.. That should have been enough.. At this point he should respect the arbitrators decision.. The whole process has cost millions for the league.. Which, of course, the fans will get the tab..

Cut your losses Roger.. Time for a commissioner who is tough, but can process diplomacy..

I always say this. Every controversy that Goodell touches ends up making everyone loser who are involved. Other than Judge Berman and Jeffrey Kessler, there isn't one person involved, especially Goodell, who doesn't take a hit on this. Let's go through the list:

Goodell - Being smeared across the country today
Jeffrey Pash - Skewed in the Berman decision, will likely be the fall guy in this whole fiasco and probably lose his job
Ted Wells - Credibility shot
Walt Anderson - Comes off like a boob in the Wells Report even though they gush over him
Troy Vincent - Exposed as the complete moron he is and the only reason he is in the NFL front office is to troll the NFLPA
Exponent - Shown to have either the worst or most corrupt scientists on staff
Mike Kensil - Exposed at a former Jet with an ax to grind
Chris Mortensen - Destroyed his credibility
Tom Brady - Although he won yesterday, his name has been dragged through the mud on a silly vendetta
Bob Kraft - Lost a million dollars, two draft picks, and the respect of a lot of Patriots fans
John Harbaugh - Caught lying about tipping off the Colts
Ryan Grigson - Exposed as a tattletale

Why would any owners feel that Goodell deserved a guaranteed contract at 50m/year.
He shouldn't even be paid unguaranteed at 50m/year.

Owners are willing to go to the mat against players for everything, while they waste money on the league office.

This league needs 4 year election terms
