Summary: Other players are going to contest this like Brady. Before this is over, Goodell will have more eggs on his face than a Pilgrim's Pride plant. Cut your losses and get a better commissioner.

Been saying it for years. He should've been fired after the "Replacement Refs" thing. He's screwed up over and over again. He's weak minded, people don't respect him, and he has no leadership skills.

A true leader wouldn't have "leaks" coming out from their office. If they did have leaks, a true leader wouldve made sure those FALSE leaks wouldve been corrected immediately…. But nope. Goodell is a beta male, follower, yes-man. Worst commissioner in sports history.

He's only a yes man if you consider that he says yes to himself and nothing else.

He's got a backbone, you can't take that away from him. What you can easily deduct is that everything above where his backbone ends is lacking ...substance.

Can someone collect all the articles/tweets from high profile outlets that are calling for Goodell being fired and link them all in this thread? I'm sure their are quite a few of them already. Forbes, GQ, Washington Post, etc...

Don't confuse backbone with ignorance and arrogance.

Backbone? No. He crumbled under the pressure of Mike Kensil and the owners. If he TRULY had a backbone, he wouldve stood up for what is right. He never publicly corrected the false reports, because he was being pressured by others to go along with this witch hunt. He was doing other peoples dirty work for them. That is NOT someone who has a backbone.

He's an idiot, not a coward, he's been standing up for what he believes is right, he's just too arrogant and ignorant to see that he's an idiot. He's not backing down because he thinks he's right.

We disagree about Goodell's basic character. I see him as a true believing crusader who considers himself the only logical arbiter of righteousness, now that he's the commissioner, and that seems to be a common understanding of the man in general circles.

Character aside then. Are Goodell's actions underpinned by some sort of warped yet well meaning delusion? Or is it a lack/flawed underlying system of values?

Based on what he has made, a Goodell buyout -- should owners want him out -- could cost about $150M. His contract expires in March 2019

Looks like Goodell isn't going anywhere. Obviously the hypocritical NFL only signs contracts with partially guaranteed money with the players. Goodell will continue to be a part of our lives for four more years and probably many more after that. He's not the only hard-headed ******* with authority in the NFL.

doesn't explain the pathological lying since high school. Why have his two older brothers remained in complete radio silence about their ginger haired little no hope dopey brother? Roger Goodell is a vainglorious megalomaniac being used by billionaires to front for their incredibly self perpetuating cash cow, the NFL. He's that suspicious mole that has blown up into full blown melanoma. A cancerous ,cantakerous cretin given free reign to burn the ants in his little farm with a magnifying glass.

Corrupted culture in the NFL offices
+ Jealousy/hatred of the Patriots
+ Goodell's 'God' complex

There's a reason why Goodell is 0-5 in recent cases,

Bountygate
Rice
Peterson
Hardy
Brady

and it's not because of the owners. It's because he can't stop himself from being an asshat. If he'd just stuck with traditional NFL procedures, even as modified by the new CBA (i.e. the 'criminal' authority situations), he'd have gotten every one of those dealt with appropriately. Instead, he has deliberately pushed the envelope far past the breaking point in each case, and it's come back to bite him in the ass every time.

After four whopping failures, Goodell/NFL behaved more ridiculously in the Brady case than he/it ever had before. It has been more than doubling down. It's been the equivalent of forum shopping (I'll use integrity instead of equipment violation) and then still violating every rule of ethics.

That's a good idea.
If nothing else it certainly makes me feel better to FINALLY see this obvious target for justifiable scorn getting at least some of it.
I don't have links but I think there has been something by Werzel on Yahoo, I believe an SI story, one here in the Tampa Times, I believe I saw one on NBC.

Why have his two older brothers remained in complete radio silence about their ginger haired little no hope dopey brother? Why has his gay brother in LA savagely rebuked Roger and Roger's lack of morals and character in published media? He's that suspicious mole that has blown up into full blown melanoma. A cancerous ,cantakerous cretin given free reign to burn the ants in his little farm with a magnifying glass.

Call it delusions of grandeur, or call it a messianic complex coupled with narcissistic tendencies. In the end, it's basically the same thing.

and I'd prefer that a psychiatric professional in one of the medium security federal facilities in our country do a full workup on the Goon....as he serves out a 10 year racketeering sentence. Flip Kensil or one of the other ex-Jet flunkies and get this unbelievable POS in court on a criminal conspiracy rap.

I definitely agree about the corrupted culture. IMHO it is one of the few things that can explain how almost surreal this whole fiasco has been. I also have a suspicion that culture is so permeated that underlings in the office could actually put Goodell on courses/tangents that he may not have been enthusiastic about. A rotten corporate culture can cause some pretty odd politics, cliques and tangents/decisions. I also think many owners had this creep up on them. They were too starry eyed with TV ratings and big bottom line growth to see the walls were slowly closing in (that's my hunch).

Why should they buy him out?

In the event that the Commissioner or any other officer of the League shall be convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or be physically or mentally incapacitated to perform his duties or shall fail or refuse to abide by the Constitution and Bylaws of the League, and the Executive Committee finds that such action by such officer is detrimental to the best interests of the League, or in the event the Commissioner or any other officer of the League fails or is unwilling to perform his duties, then such Committee shall have the power after notice and hearing to suspend or remove said officer and to terminate any contract between such Commissioner or officer and the League.

With all his incompetent court dealings and disciplinary actions and all the bylaws and items in the league constitution, how hard would it be to determine goodell acted in a way that was detrimental to the best interests of the league?
_______________
"Per the NFL’s personal conduct policy, which was updated to include the more stringent policies for those charged of domestic violence, “all persons associated with the NFL are required to avoid “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League.”

Such “detrimental” conduct includes an action “that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL players.”

The conduct policy “applies to all players under contract; all coaches; all game officials; all full-time employees of the NFL, NFL clubs, and all NFL-related entities; all rookie players once they are selected in the NFL college draft; and all undrafted rookie players, unsigned veterans who were under contract in the prior League Year, and other prospective employees once they commence negotiations with a club concerning employment.”
