Projected 56-man roster with 10 players on IR at total cap cost of $4,318,519 and a 10-man practice squad ($1,122,000) puts Pats over cap by $800,000 which can't happen.

QB - 2 Brady, Garoppolo
RB - 6 Bolden, James White, Gray, Blount, Lewis, Cadet
FB - 0
C - 1 Stork
G - 4 Wendell, Kline, Mason, Jackson
OT - 4 Vollmer, Solder, Cannon, Cameron Fleming
WR - 5 Amendola, Edelman, Lafell, Dobson, Wayne
TE - 4 Rob Gronkowski, Hoomanawanui, Chandler, Williams
DE - 5 Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Flowers, Grissom, Sheard
DT - 5 Easley, Siliga, Moore, Malcom Brown, Chris Jones
LB - 6 Collins, Hightower, Mayo, Dane Fletcher, Morris, Freeny
CB - 5 Ryan, Butler, Bradley Fletcher, McClain, Tarell Brown
S - 5 McCourty, Harmon, Chung, Richards, Wilson
ST - 1 Slater
P - 1 Allen
K - 1 Gostkowski
LS - 1 Cardona

Right now, the Top 51 rule is in effect. But on September all salaries will be counted. By all I mean the 53 players on the roster, Blount's salary, practice squad players and the salaries of the players on IR and Reserve/PUP.

Pats need to create cap space for in-season transactions
1.) Cutting players who were on roster 4PM Tuesday later in the week
2.) Extensions w/minimum salaried players
3. )Replacing IR players
4.) Reached NLTBE 46-man active roster bonuses

Does handing out a few injury settlements get them below?

Even so, it isn't like them to not have any wiggle room, you have to imagine the real amount they'd like to clear is closer to $5mm than $1mm.

Solder extension is the obvious one. Solder trade is certainly another option. Biggest money is there.

Interesting. Thanks for the post, Miquel.

Kind of makes you wonder who the axe is going to fall on…

Consistent that there'd be a big move. Even late. BB never shy about moving on from players earlier rather than later. But I'm not big on moving on from Solder.

If we're talking big, there just aren't many candidates that save the Pats even $1M.

Brady (yeah, right)
Solder
Vollmer
Ninkovich
Edelman
LaFell
Amendola
Wayne
Wendell
B. Fletcher
Chung

That's it, and only the first three bring $3M or more.

@Miguel You listed 5 safties, but say there are 4. Does that help the cap?

Edit: Nevermind, just a typo, the numbers you list on add up to 55.

You would think Soldier since you can swing Vollmer over and use Cannon or perhaps someone else at RT.

Only other guess is Mayo if they think they have the goods elsewhere or can put Ninko at LB etc. Or is make some extensions and make some less severe cuts. They usually need as stated 5 or 6 mil in cap reserve.

Miguel, I'm looking at the Patscap page and you have Gostkowski as signed only through 2015. Surely not.

That is exactly why I am predicting that Wendell gets cut.

Well, it looks like signing Revis would've been suicidal. It makes me wonder if they didn't know that going into the negotiations. In which case, why bother? To screw the Jets? The Jets now have problems because of Revis and the precedent setting Suh contract.

I think because of age, that Vollmer is more likely. That and a Brady restructure or a Solder signing should do the trick ........ a high 2nd rounder or another player (with an OK contract) (Mankins, Part II).

They might have been willing to re-sign Revis and let McCourty walk if the money was close.

Look for a trade of T Wilson to Giants ;) Creates 1 Mill and you have Ebner to replace with :)

Not a fan of that one either.

How about cutting Alan Branch or Cannonfodder?

lol if Belichick traded Brady after all this I would literally drive to the Gillete Stadium parking lot and light myself on fire.

Never happen - but can you imagine. I'm literally LOLing at the insanity that would insue. All the money, all the tweets, the blogs, the legal experts, the hours of coverage... And then BB pulls off a trade. Gets a few first rounders (thus retrieving one this year and a couple down the road) and just putting chaos onto everything and everyone.

Again, not gonna happen - but what a show it'd make.

Why not? His cap hit is $2.4m but dead money is only $400k. Andrews has put together a very solid TC at C and also a few good reps at RG, and with Stork pretty much good to go for next week, I would not be surprised to see Andrews become the backup swing.
