Kraft still sucking up to Goodell

Schefter on WEEI today:

“I don’t think it’s [Roger firing] going to happen initially,” he said. “Will there be long-term fallout? Yes. I’ve been talking to one owner this morning and he was like, ‘Roger Goodell is not in jeopardy here, Roger is fine.’ [It] was pointed out that the Kraft’s are supposedly fine with Roger Goodell.”

Honestly, this fanbase's treatement of Kraft throughout this whole thing, despite our not having the full picture, has been one big ****ing embarrassing misplacement of rage.

The avenues Kraft had available for him are few and far between and there was a real cost to failure both in terms of dollars and the cache he has with the league to effect positive change. He ****ed up big time supporting Goodell through the other farces but beyond that I can't find fault with what the guy has done.

Maybe I'm just not some spoiled ass **** who only started watching when Parcells came along because when I started watching I think I would have let an owner piss down my throat every day for 10 years if they were going to give us the sort of team and committment to winning that Kraft has built.

That you guys are ****ing pissed that he isn't calling Goodell names in public statements or something is asinine and more than a little childish.
That was a brave statement, Fnordie. I don't necessarily agree with all of it, but I do appreciate the courage it took to write, given today's climate.

On the surface Kraft is well deserving of his unpopularity due his actions.....as we know of them. I'm willing to be critical of him now, but couch that criticism with the understanding that there "could' be things more involved than what we know that might mitigate some of the negativity. Too bad we are likely going to have to wait for BB's memoirs before we find out the truth

Kraft has to choose his words carefully. He signed a document that cannot publicly criticize the League or its commissioner. So he can attack the lawyers who are not employed by the NFL as a way to get around it.

He signed a document saying he won't sue. I am not sure where there is anything saying he can't be critical or complain (about league or Ommish), can you point to that?

Also, Seems to go against free speech. Not sure you can sign a document to give up your constitutional rights.

I think is more, he doesn't want to denigrate the 32+1, but no legal contractual basis...that is a choice.

It this correct, he has signed a document that he can't sue the league (to get the draft picks reinstated)?

I know others don't agree, but I care less about what he says than what he does, I would rather that he sue to get the picks back and keep his mouth shut rather than not sue and yell about Goodell.

However, I didn't realize that he couldn't sue the league (to get the draft picks back). Patsfans lawyers, is that true? Or, is it partially true? Didn't Al Davis sue the league several time?

You and I probably have a different take on internet posting if you thought throwing a 30 second text-based temper tantrum took courage :p

This is a common thing I read a lot. Kraft isn't giving up his right to free speech. The Bill of Rights details the protections citizens are afforded from the government - not from each other.

It is in the league charter you can not disparage anyone in the NFL League office and if they have an issue with anyone in the League office that they have file a complaint with the commissioner.

I'm largely a defender of Bob, but that isn't good optics. Go with an even broader term like, "the league office' or "the league" if you want to be vague enough to let Goodell off the hook without appearing to do so. But to write it in a way that he's pretty much the only guy exempted is disappointing.

Kraft has already clearly chosen which side he's on, and it's Goodell's. I don't understand why anyone expected anything different from him now. He knows that the fans will come anyway so he's siding with the man he picked as Commish.

I disagree with Kraft's handling of this, but I wouldn't call it rage. More like disappointment.

How is giving up a million dollars and multiple draft picks for violations of nothing a commitment to winning? With stronger ownership we may have won more with Brady and Belichick than we have. You could argue that Kraft's capitulation now and during Crygate has hurt the team.

The proper thing for Kraft to do now would be to fight to get his picks back, and he won't do that either.

I couldn't care less about his words. As many here have previously stated, it's all about his actions. He's failing big time there.

Kraft keeps trying to stay neutral. Appease Goodell, the owners, the fans. You gotta pick a side. I'd pick the side that is truthful and makes you your money. Stop with the PC crap. Go all Donald Trump on their ***!!

Curran spoke with someone "very high in the organization," who said looking to overturn those penalties is not something they've yet discussed. However, Curran said the likelihood was "extremely remote" because of Patriots owner Robert Kraft's decision in May not to fight the discipline.

"To go back on that now would really cast Robert Kraft as someone going back on his word," said Curran. "As a result, it's highly, highly, highly unlikely that the Patriots would try to recoup those draft picks.

"However, there is an extreme feeling of validation (in the Patriots' organization) right now."

Instead of casting it as "going back on his word, " I would admire Kraft for admitting his error and changing course. I am happy for Brady, but I do not share the organizational sense of validation because Kraft donated our draft picks to the scumbags on Park Ave. The case against the team is just as corrupt and crooked as was the case against Brady. Still waiting for Kraft to show some backbone and take a stand on principle.

Agree. I want Kraft to grow a set and roast goodell as much as the next guy but it's my understanding he is prohibited from openly criticize the commish in the league constitution so it's a pretty clever way of criticizing without criticizing.
So if he does, what happens, 1mm fine, lost picks? At this point, you have to make some kind of stand. We can add this to the "if they were innocent, why did they pay the fine, fire the ball attendance. ..etc". ... Grow a set for God's sake.... and stop stammering in your canned statements. It's not a good look.

Color me surprised...

(not!)

If indeed Goodell can't control his staff, he should be fired for managerial incompetence.

Basically, RK is running a reverse, as opposed to handing off to LaGarrette. ;)

I don't understand why Mr. Kraft thinks he would be going back on his word. Back in May, the Wells report was still independent rather than as Judge Berman would say "independent". He was lied to and swindled. Mr. Kraft shouldn't sue he should file charges. In Massachusetts, I think, if you swindle someone over age 60, the jailtime is doubled.
